Re-sign Rojas + Ward. That is the priority.

I find Hearfield's move to CCM quite interesting for a couple of reasons.
1) He is getting pretty consistent minutes at RB for us.
2) CCM have a solid RB at the moment with bojic (think his contract expires this year).
3) CCM have Wee Mac on the right wing.

So either Wee Mac is leaving CCM soon (his contract is up this year) or he thinks he is a better RB option than Bojic.  But why would you move when you have not much competition at the nixs.

I wonder if Troy knows something about Wee Mac that the rest of us don't.

Question; What do the other 5 sides who made the playoffs have that the Nix don't.

Answer: Creative midfield playmakers. Try Flores, Hernandez, Perez, Broich, Culina.

There is, and always has been a huge hole in the Nix team. That is a creative player who can be the go to man when you want something special. We have a solid defense, a solid defensive midfield and some good wide players. But we have no one who has the skill and vision to link these all up. Too often the likes of Rojas or Ifill get the ball in a static position and are forced to creat something from a standing start.

We need to play the game at a higher tempo. Overall, this season we have seen a jump in quality in the A-League. Quite a few sides now play a quick short passing game. We kind of look pedestrian with our slow deliberate buildups and slow lumbering front players(apart from Rojas and Ifill ).

I hope in the off season Rickie and the rest of the support staff take the time to look at where the A-League is heading and decide what sort of game the Nix want to play and then go out and recruit players who can play that style in an efficient manner.

In the past we have tended to go out and recruit a player and then figure out where we can fit them in.( North, Siggy and Durante all starting against the Reds) That has got to stop. We do not want to settle for being a midtable side that battles into the playoffs every season. We are a very good club, well run, well set up and well supported. There is no reason why we can't be a top 3 side.

It all starts this off season with recruitment.

Perhaps:

Troy is worried about not been paid at the Nix and by the time it all turns to custard there is no room at any club for him and many other out of work Nix players.

Hmmm I agree with this, but not sure we want an all out attaking midfielder . We definitely need a creative midfielder, but we need one more of the Broich/ Culina type.

Not solely focussed on attacking, and with defensive duties as well. Ward has done quite well, and has the versatility that we need. I would be happy with him but yeah another creative midfielder could be good.

Playing the way we do with Ricki, a culina / Ward type player is probably the way to go.

I have a friend who lives in Gosford who talked to MM and said that he told him he really likes it over there and is keen to renew his contract with them.
Take that as you will.

I would be happy to see him stay. So long as he's not leading the backline he's been pretty good for the second half of the season. And with Hearfield leaving North is a good fit at RB. Just so long as he doesn't cost us too much.

I remember Bertos saying the same thing only for weeks later to sign for us.

North is a socceroo. In the least that means he won't be cheap.I'd love him to stay but expect him to go.

Now I think we should focus on resigning Ward and Rojas and finding a RB and a 3rd CB ahead of musa to battle siggy.

Which game are you referring to? If you mean Dodd's goal last night that was Ward not North.

I wouldn't think there'll be a transfer fee as he has only signed for a season.  Though maybe the contract goes through to a certain date, not just when we're knocked out so we could get something for him?

I don't think transfer fees are allowed between A League sides.

Correct. We'd be releasing him,or he'd have an out clause where he is free to leave if our season is ended.

So who do we bring in to bolster our defensive stocks? Would rather muscat stay in midfield.

We had Ward. And to be fair he has been ok. We also had Marco and Ifill. When we win those others aren't sh*te. Apart from Broich

A player who can play in both fullback and midfield is going to be a useful addition to any squad - are we sure that we even offered him a new deal?

Georgie pie are reportedly working with Terry to make this happen. Reports are that they'll fund the move then open up a store in Wellington once again.
