he was available for 10 weeks. Not sure if the possibility of signing for full season was ever discussed. he would have challenges on domestic front, but who knows what couldnt be sorted out if the will was there on both parts.

Do guest contracts use up visa spots? If they dont, I wonder if any of the other a-League clubs might be interested in him.

Would've been a perfect injury replacement for Lochhead - Muscat replaces TL, SE replaces MM in midfield, and we don't have to put up with Vinnie Lia haters as much. Also a nice marketing tool - All Whites hero and local boy comes back for a stint before (likely) retirement.

Well if true that we turned him down then we either have rocks in the head or the money tree is well and truely bare.

What a waste Elliottt kicking his heels not playing while the nix midfield doesn't have anyone capable of even kicking heels.

He might be a short term solution but surely that is better than a long term problem which is a midfield lacking anyone who can control a game and pass the ball positively.

Id settle for striker who can actually score goals...enough golals that is.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

We should sign Elliott. Sure we have plenty of mid-fielders but few decent ones, and none who can make defense opening passes and distribute well all over the park. Even if it was only short term, ot'd be great.

Making the passes didnt really help the All Whites who had 3 supposedly good strikers on most of the time...we dont need a deep playing playmaker IMHO.  Bring back Fred...

What? How many chances did we create?

Wasn't the midfielders fault that the strikers couldn't put em away

Yeah but in all fairness we fired blanks in front of goal most of the time. What about Leos lovely little move to beat a couple of players and then when he passed the ball to Killen looking for a quick return on goal, bloody Killen skyhooked it instead.Stink as bro

I think now is about the right time to pull a smug look and say "I told you so" about Toto. A no-name who was playing in low level South American leagues, it was always likely that he would be very average.

If that was your only basis to work on,then you have no right to say I told you so

I think most people said that..

It was pretty obviously a rushed signing.

Lets be honest - our off-season recruitment was extremely disappointing, really, and has contributed to a slow start. Still think we can start gaining some momentum - just need to get that first away win. Don't think changing the formation will help though.valeo2010-10-16 19:02:43

Agreed, but if we had signed Nick Ward and Danny Vukovic, even Jade North in the "offseason" it would've been a much different story.

Caceres > Toto. If Toto was going to be that crap in the beginning I would've rather kept hold of a kiwi, or signed Peverley or Clapham, granted they got game time even if it was for the reserves.

Clapham woulda been great and Toto would've gone down a treat on What Now!

perhaps even Diego > Toto??

I would like to see Elliottt signed - I thought he more than held his own against Paraguay and is potentially that creative play maker that seems so illusive.

Spare a thought for Terry who has to continually fork out for our failed midfield recruitment (Diego, Toto, G**, Ferrante..............).

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

If only we could transplant Elliotttt's brain into Tim Brown's head.

Do it!! Just sign him. He has the kind of ball distribution and vision that few in the A-League have and he could really create chances for us (Hopefully we would capitalise more often than AW's).
A football brain transplant clinic... Brilliant! Maybe Riki should look into signing a brain surgeon next season.

Tribal football reckons Herbert missed training this morning to finalise Elliottttt deal ...

Presumably this came from NZ media source but couldnt find it in my quick search.
For some reason the link doesnt work, but the story does exist. Google it.

why would Elliott want to play here when his missus is working in the states......sure its a job but he hardly needs to work - he's still searching for a club cos he actually wants to carry on playing.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Well he isnt going to get a contract in the MLS for this season. Its almost over now. And if he doesnt get something before their next season begins he will really struggle to convince a manager he is not a big risk. He needs a contract soon or it will become too hard.

So, if he cant play inthe US in the short term, Phoenix would be a next best option. Still has to leave the fiancee in LA but at least he can get some home cooking from his Mum and play in his home town amongst lads he knows. More attractive and enjoyable for him and more marketable to the better half than going to Shenzen Ruby I imagine.

If he gets a 10 game stint that also means he's not leaving the missus for too long, although I can imagine that might not be ideal from a PHoenix point of view, bc if he is a success and gets our midfield ticking, then he is still going to disappear before hte business end of the season.

Be stoked with Elliottt. Will we sign him on a short term deal? I wonder how long it'll take Boyens to come back. We don't need him, but it's not like he's getting game time in the MLS.
