Maybe he met a sheikh in Saudi Arabia who wants to help Terry out?

I am sure he didn't come for the weather and last I knew you could still get beer in Audi. This is promising

sign him up on a free and then flick him for another mill

that will give Terry another 9 weeksAucklandPhoenix2011-07-03 18:50:05

So, clearly I need to be drunk at every Phoenix game from now on to see Jon McKain back playing.
That shouldn't be too difficult...

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

party too much, unprofessional, felt unwanted at the his club. No Thanks. Besides you got a call from Maradona only because of his party skills, IMO.

Hingert turned us down to sign for the Roar according to this:

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=55995

Before the doom merchants get too worked up about this can we all try and remember that he has just signed for the defending champions. Kind of hard to compete with that.

Also, this could be good news for those who wish to see a greater representation of Kiwis at the Nix. Now that Hingert has gone elsewhere and Saka looks like pants, Ricki may take a more serious look at the NZ U20 squad's performance in Columbia (something he said he would be doing anyway).

If we hadn't already signed Downey then we would probably have got Hingert.
I hope we haven't picked the worse of the two to be our new right back.

i think the inference is that if we didn't have Downey signed up already we'd have made a better offer $ wise to Hingert

I get the feeling we did offer him a contract, but fair call taking brissy over us. Plus its closer to family i assume

Was about to mention this as a real option. Obiously central midfield is somewhere we are fairly sorted (other than a playmaker sort of thing), but surely his experience could be useful?

I'd take him, we need solid players in the squad, and proven at A-League level.

Still has a year left on his current deal also.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Does having 'trialists' at the club mean that they are NOT players of any note and that they might be players WHO could do a job at this level.......or is it a cheaper way of getting players?

Think we should look at Chad Coombes. Was okay against Mexico before the world cup, can cover striker, midfield and fullbacks, and has to be have at least as much to offer as someone out of the Aussie lower leagues.

Fit player, runs a lot, plus did all right coming on against the AWs for the Waitak invitational. I know he doesn't have that many fans on this website, but with sod all players we could definitely do worse and have done worse in the past.

Really? The Mexico game prior to the World Cup?

Coombes was absolutely woeful in that game - to the point of probably being the worst player on the pitch.

Well I didn't see him tackle anyone's ankle with his shoulder, or have too many air kicks and both those players have picked up professional contracts.

Not sure I'd agree he was absolutely woeful in the game. Compared to Troy Hearfield's highlight reel at right back against much much weaker opposition I thought he wasn't too bad.

I think he could do a job for the 'Nix, even if that wasn't a starters role. He'd have Siggie and Moosecat to give him some guidance and he did score THAT goal for the knitting circle's team. So he's scored as many flash goals as Ward and Elrich...martinb2011-07-06 16:43:31

He was very bad - mainly because he didn't know where to be most of the time. But it's a pointless discussion about a game played 18 months ago, and Coombes hasn't exactly been a player whose performances have demanded a closer look by the Phoenix since then at any rate.

But given the current circumstances, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the guys from ASB Prem get looked at very closely. Just don't think Coombes will be one of them.el grapadura2011-07-06 16:48:57

So name some names then...

sure Coombes has been off the radar. Think he would be useful as a utility player, and that he work hard in the 'Nix setup.

And it isn't just about a game played that long ago- I mentioned his recent half against the All Whites and also the cracker goal he scored in the Club World Cup. Surely not a record many other ASB prem players can match.

How old is Alan Pearce? Who else are you thinking would come into contention?
