Im assuming chances are pretty slim on us being able to afford marquee wages this season, and doubt most of them would come even if we could afford them, but decent video anyway.

Kezman would be awesome for us. Unfortunately I'm having trouble even dreaming it could happen.

To counter that though Spoonley is nowhere near the All WHites though and seems unlikely to get out of domestic football now.A year playing and training professionally and with a professional club on his CV isn't he more likely to get a gig after that?  The club has to do what they gotta do but I'm not sure that this has worked out that well for Spoonley.  I bet if you asked him he'd rather be at the Phoenix than ACFC...

We recruited Reddy and Vuka because thye were available which was more coincidence than good management.  It could have easily been crowther in goal (a scary thought)

If Gleeson hadn't had made a late run Spoons would have been number 2 behind Moss for the Mexico and Australia games.

He did spend a year training professionally with the Phoenix.  The first season.

2 points - 1: Gleeson is playing and training professionally now and the spot is his to lose.  We are talking pure speculation here but if he'd been reserve GK at the Phoenix this whole time that could well have been him.

2: when he was at the nix he was 3rd string behind NZ's 2 best keepers and a youth player.  That's a different prospect to 2nd choice

Being 2nd string at the Phoenix hasn't exactly set the career prospects of Crowther alight.  A reserve keeping spot is not a stepping stone, it is a back up position, even in New Zealand.

News is right, we're better off having our local keepers playing the game than wasting away on the bench.

I predict it will not be long until Spoonley falls off the radar altogether, because there are better younger keepers coming through (O'Keefe, McPeake, Basalaj, etc), and he is well on his way to a career as a lawyer (poor lad).

So do you think that Gleeson should flag the states and come back and play for Team Wellington?  No, thought not...and I don't see how that is different so being back-up at the Phoenix

i think spoonley was slightly different than crowther as he was number 3 in the line- very unlikely to ever play.

Gleeson was also third but took his chances when he got them.

When crowther got chances, he did not do his future employment chances much good in my opinion.

yeah no he was a number two the season Rocket Reddy came in.

Last season yeah he was a number 3. And usually the #3 isnt going to get any gametime as was the case last year and for spoonley

Did the square root of f-all for Hibs last season but could potentially do a job in the A-League. Bit injury prone though.

Are we sure that list is accurate... there a lot of players released on frees that are still reasonably young and quality.

James Mcfadden - Can't see him been released for nothing nor Upson from West Ham. Did they have some sort or relegation clause??

Both are out of contract - can only presume they didn't want to sign new deals while their teams were struggling, and now they are glad they did. I know this is the case for Upson.

There are a lot of reasonable players being released from the EPL this offseason actually.

From Paul Ifill's Twitter about a half hour back ... "Great 1st week at training. Boys looking sharp. Plenty of trialists! One in particular looks the goods!"

Interesting.

I know, I know, its serious!

Someone suggested elsewhere that old Furries fans might row in behind the Nix when we play the Roar. That may well be more likely with Downey and Hingert on board. Townsville Fever?

He also can play left back so creates some much needed compettition to those two spots.
