Adelaide did, but that was with a Guest. Not sure about injury replacements. Would seem a little bit odd to allow that

as far as i knew the guest/injury players don't take up import slots.

Didn't the GC have 6 imports last season at one point?

Nope only 5. Perchtold was a guest player, so doesn't count. They had an Asian dude as an injury replacement for Robson.

Adelaide was the same, Joe Keenan as an injury replacement for Cassio, and Slory as a guest player.
Hmm, I was wrong, Keenan was a replacement for Boogaard when they had import slots available, and then Leckie later. Not sure he was still there when they signed Bodrui? as their 5th import.

Injury replacements dont take up an International slot. Perth did it with Andrezinho in for Sikora

Does a foreign Marquee signing count towards our foreign player total, we have Greenie, Ifill, Warner, Sanchez and perhaps Smith as our 5 non-Aussie/Kiwi players...?

was it just me but i remember i read it somewhere that Ifill is actually our Marquee???

Not sure about whether Foreign Marquee counts or not...but then Smith are likely to be an "injury replacement", so not sure if that counts??

It was in one of the stories on the YF home page a wee while ago, suprised more didnt notice it.

it was something Morrison mentioned in the initial press converence - though in a kind of general term of the word I think.

I am corrected:

These players do not fill a Visa position:
1Those players who were born and started their professional career abroad but have since gained Australian Residency (and New Zealand Residency, in the case of Wellington Phoenix);
2Australian residents (and New Zealand residents, in the case of Wellington Phoenix) who have chosen to represent another national team;
3Injury Replacement Players;
4Guest Players (eligible to play a maximum of ten games).

Had a look on http://www.pfa.net.au/index.php?id=191 at the CBA. Seems to indicate that injury replacements DO count as a foreign spot (if they are foreigners..). I would trust this over Wiki

In particular section 12 deals with replacement players. 12.5 e & f.

(e) The club must continue to comply with its obligations under causes 6 and 7 regarding roster size and composition; and
(f) the Club is deemed not to be in breach of the maximum roster requirement under clause 6.

clauses 6 and 7 discuss the rules of club rosters (minimum 20 players, max 23, 3 youth...etc)

Yep so an injury replacement can be an import only if he's replacing an import, or if the club has a spare import slot on it's roster.

So in our case Smith counts as the 5th import as he's not replacing another import.

Seems to fit the bill of Ricki's description, played in chanpions league was available for free but has been snapped up by a non-league side..

i'm slightly concerned by this paragraph...

The Phoenix had contracts in front of three European-based strikers but Herbert said that hunt had now been put on hold following discussions with the new owners, who are receptive to the idea of signing a marquee player during the season.

I think I'd personally prefer a couple of decent European strikers rather than one marquee. Who knows what you get with a marquee signing. There aren't that many in the A-League that have been a roaring success.

The Welnix don't strike me as having much Football nous, however they do have plenty of business experience and a large part of that is recruiting the right people to advise you on (or run) parts of the business that arent your strong points, so i guess i'd trust them to do that.

But i think i'd prefer a couple of decent hard working pro's, rather than a flashy over-priced marquee...

Agree with the marquee signing opinion in that its a huge waste of money that could and should instead be used to develop local talent in a reserve and youth side. Is a Phoenix reserve side playing the ASB Franshises happening this season?

However if it's to be Killen (or any other Kiwi player), I'll recind what I said about a marquee player.

If he is not signed as a guest player that is correct. But we dont know that, the club havent announced his signing or its details yet.

Player with a good pedigree, spent some time in prison and had a bit of a fall from grace. Was never given a fair opportunity by Swindon fans and was shown the door when di canio turned up. He should rip up in the conference if he can get his head right and good luck to him.

He hardly fits the bill laid down as a guest player though. I very much doubt we would be allowed to sign him on a guest contract.

Neither, he was released so we signed him.

Melbourne's lineup tonight:

Allsopp starting so perhaps he wont be coming down.

Solorzano on bench, but doubt he would be planning on moving just yet.

Hernandez not in squad... maybe we are in with a sniff there?

Pondeljak not in squad- perhaps more likely..

Has been pretty much confirmed that we have been targetting Allsopp - most fans are unhappy with him after how he played tonight so who knows what will happen. Picking Solarzano to start next week.

Tards fans are notoriously fickle. If Allsopp were to score a brace next weekend then they woiuld love him again...

Allsopp?

Currently our list of strikers is:
1. Chris Greenacre
2. ...

Our Euro offers have been yanked so hell yes we'd want him.

Sorry, but where has it been confirmed?
Ive been speculating about him on this forum for a few months, but I havnt seen it written anywhere we are targeting a Victory forward, yet alone Danny Alsopp..?

Would he really be that upset on the bench for them each week?

So if we're "making a play" for Allsopp then Killy can't be in the picture.

Yip I would take both of them.
However Im not sure if he will want to leave?

He's still gonna have a bench spot at minimum, so depends how ambitious he is. Atleast marco could put in a good word...
