Why sign Chris Killen? Him going club to club each season shows he isnt a very good investment plus his goal tally his rather poor for a striker. If the nix were to sign him they shouldnt bother trying to match or near match whatever he is in china.. because he isnt worth that.

His record isn't that bad, 17 goals in the past two seasons in China isn't too bad. Comparing him to strikers we have had he would be better than DMac, actually say he is pretty similar to Chris, good first touch and involves himself in the build up but is a bit bigger than Chris.

I would like to hope Paul Ifill is re-signing, but to announce it like this makes you expect a new signing.
Permalink Permalink
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Order of probability

1, Paul Ifill signs for 2 more years
2, Chris Killen's on his way
3, Marco Rojas hates Melbourne and wants to come back
4, Carlos Tevez hates the weather in Manchester and wants to come to Wellington

Nathan Greenham resigns as CEO to take a new role at the club... Right back. Freeing Muscat up to play in midfield. Book it, done.

Ifill re-signing is great news but with his injury problems can anyone see him playing another full (or close to) season? He had the perfect pre-season by all accounts and it still happened..little worried about that, I suppose, but he's still one of the best in the league and certainly the best we've got.

With Ifill re-signing, will that end any chance of Killen coming to the Phoenix? Reading the papers it sounds like he wants a bit of money and I'd imagine that Ifill will be tying up a lot.
I would love to see Ifill and Killen link up on the field!

Sad but true. I will be surprised if he sees out the season.

Re-signing Muscat is a must. If he moves on it will leave a huge hole in our ranks. Without a doubt our most consistent player week in week out. I guees it depends if he buys into the new owners vision. He would certainly be snapped up by most other A-League sides.

Apparently he should count as an aussie marquee, as the wording in the rules is that for the nix, kiwis are regarded as australians.

I think he fits the bill, but is definitely not the long term solution. I think we need him as soon as we can, and before hes no good.

This is something else that needs to be considered. He has basically said he wants to come to the Phoenix one day to finish off his career. Hes from wellington, he parents are season ticket holders... etc, so why wait? In hope that in a few seasons he wont be worth as much? Well he wont be as good then either. I say sign him, especially if we have the full salary cap to work within. Its a win for all concerned, not just for the Phoenix but for the next world cup campaign. Another wellington born AW who can train everyday with other AWs under the AWs coach.

AJ13, I agree with what you say but until you know how much money he actually wants I don't think you can make any definitive statement. Stint as a guest player could work out though, both parties get to see how it goes and could end up as a more permanent contract.

Killen is a total dick if he seriously wants a driver and a maid for his time in NZ! Fair enough taking it when offered it in a foreign land where he doesn't speak the language etc, but back in his hometown?? He's good, but he's not that good!

Easy tiger, at no point has he asked for a driver and maid if he comes to New Zealand, he just commented that he has one in China.

Is he an Aussie?

Not according to this article (from January 2011)-

"South had three of their latest Korean imports on view, together with two of the three Koreans already playing with the club.

The latest trio arrived only this week and were highly impressive with their speed, skill and tactical awareness.

One of the trio is 23-year-old midfielder Gyu Jun Kim, who has played in Burma, while another is 20-year-old left-sided midfielder Jae-Ho Lee.

None of the three latest newcomers will play against Olympia but they will watch the match."

Sounds like a great find if hes good enough. Young, and probably from a more technical background. Plus asian spot so doesnt have to affect our imports. Hope he impresses! Good luck bud!

They talked about introducing an Asian spot, but never did. He would be an import, so would mean the end of Smith, unless we can use a guest stint for one of them. Assuming the guy is good enough.

shame if he does.I was hoping to see Smith score the winner v. GCU here at the RoF so that justice could prevail and he had the chance to stick it to them good and proper.
