I mean yeah pretty much. Rob is accountable to no one and without his money we would be in a new level of trouble. Domey is and maybe should be expendable
Spot on Rob does what he wants even down to walk out songs if dosnt like it then stands no show of being used.

That is not how businesses work. There is always someone in charge, the clue is in Dome’s title, General Manager. Everybody reports to him and he reports to the board and owners, who only have governance functions. Morrison does not have time to be as hands on as some seem to think. Anyone putting forward this theory have any actual experience in big business and governance?

So who is in charge of the club? Not the owner/s but the person who has the overarching responsibly for running the club. That’s Dome isn’t it?  We have moaned for a number of years about the perceived failings of the club but lets just cast our memories back ove4 the last 18 months or so.  Extending the GK contract after only 2 games, coach losing the dressing room and being given another contract when we were pretty poor. Losing 3 of our best performing players to other A League clubs, Failing to put together a decent enough proposal for the OFC league (someone here shared a rumour that the application was very poor - might have been YH who’s bully is usually spot on except for his unexplained theory on the width of the German/Danish border lol. A seemingly poor recruitment strategy this year, have I missed anything? I know that if was in charge of a clusterfudge like this, my employer would give me the boot, as a boss, I would certainly be giving him the arse.

Insane take. As if there is nothing Dome can do that influences the on field success of the team(s) at the club. It is just completely random, they might as well be rolling dice, is it?

I know you want some bloodletting, but you know there is separation between areas of the club - yes, if Dome's side is doing well it gives the footballing side more resources but that's not a guarantee for on field success.
We have a director of football that has the purview of running the footballing side. There is a football committee above that (Chiefy had to present to the committee to keep his job in a split vote), which I'm not sure who is involved at present (at one point Noah Hickey was on the committee but he's an AFC shareholder now) and it may include Dome (maybe as a non-voting member so he keeps abreast of operations). Dome might be involved with signings, but more likely only on the financial side as Gill seems more active in that area.
Think you may be surprised Morrison has more say in things than you seem to credit him for.

do you think Dome could summarily change the coaching staff on his own? Or replace the director of football on his own? Or strength and conditioning team on his own? Or the academy staff? Or scout and sign players? Or decide whose contract to extend?

This!
AFC makes sense, Chch makes sense, what doesn't make sense is including an Aussie team at the exclusion of the only other professional team in the actual OFC region.

I don’t remember exactly but was there some reason given way back when, why there was going to be an Australian team involved? Don’t quote me but was it something like Australia Football stumping up with some cash?

I think you're right, the Aussies are throwing some cash at the tournament as part growing football in the Pacific - which explains why you'd add an Aussie team to the mix, still doesnt make the exclusion of an existing professional team any fairer or clear.

I've banged on about this before, but there is a push by Australian Govt (mostly through Aus Aid) to use sports to win hearts and minds in the Pacfic. It's all about a push back on China's (the CCP) growing presence in the region.

The big Aus Govt investment is $600million! into PNG's NRL team to kick off in 2028. But they are also working with the FA to have Aussie age group football teams return to the OFC Nations to play games. The Joeys (U17s) were in the Solomons last year. Last week Aus Aid last week announced a big juniors coacxhing programme expanison in the OFC.

And now an Australian club in the OFC League. Why Sth Melbourne was favoured over the other Aussie bid Sunshine Coast I have no idea. In geographical terms a QLD or even Darwin team makes more sense, but SM it is.

Maybe it doesn't get much press in NZ - apart from the Paula Penfold exposé China spying series I watched - but the threat of the CCP is a big topic in Aussie. A real geopolitical dance, with the Pacific countries north of here ground zero. It's almost like the old Cold War days, and yeah chucking some cash into football/sports in the region is all part of it. China upsurped Taiwan to build that fancy new stadium in Honiara.

But another part of having an Australian team in the OFC League, the statement anyway from OFC officials like Maltock, is that having Australia in the comp brings extra commercial strength (sponsors), and likely gives the new League a better chance of succeeding.

But also arbitrary. If you look at the history of the guns at North Head a bunch of them come from the Russian war scare of the 1880s.
Those ships recently were discovered near NZ just before a massive increase in the defense budget. Crickets since!

Realistically if any great power turns their sights on us only strong international institutions are going to prevent us going down. And that’s a laugh. Or the strategy of playing off everyone. Apparently two of the great powers have their domestic police operating here with a degree of an extraterritorial approach. Our best hope is being low down on the priority list really!

And all of that has only happened since David Dome became GM. Coincidence?

All I'll say is have a watch of the Paula Penfold series. I think China in 2025 is a bit more real than Tsarist Russia

Domey is probably blameless re any CCP infiltration into Aotearoa. Though hey Hauwei were a sponsor once a upon a time. So maybe add that to his list of 'crimes' before his public Lambton Quay lynching.

If you honestly think the lovely people at the CCP don't think very differently to us on a whole raft of issues from race/ethnic minorities, freedom of speech, womens rights (name what you want), the environment, National sovereignty you are indeed the Boomer head buried in some very very deep sand.

Watch Paula Penfold's expose. Listen to Andrew Hampton, Director-General of the NZSIS. Read The Art of War by Sun Tzu. Read any host of stuff on the CCP.

That maybe true Doloras, but in our part of the world Trump's presence ain't soooo strong. There will be far far more card carrying CCP members in NZ (hell we even had a National MP that was one) than hardline Republicans.

There were 'March for Australia' gatherings on the weekend. A mixed bunch of folk with a range of different issues, but mostly from the Trump playbook. Lots of anti immigration stuff. They got about 5K in both Melbs & Sydney so about 0.1% of the popn in each of those cities. 'Chants of Albo out' yet the Labor Govt a few months back won the election in a historic landslide.

It's a loud nutty very fringe minority in these parts. Again sorry off topic.

Almost achieved sir.

There was A LOT of excessively quoted text above. It got to the point where it was running down the centre of my screen one character at a time. It’s only circumstantial evidence, but you are a known pisstaker.

I love the off season. Global politics and football...my two favourite subjects.
If i was Dome and the Welnex I would stop bleating and threatening law suits and start lobbying FIFA and Oceania football  to get them to consider expanding the new Oceania comp in the future. Explain how unfair it is to have picked only one of the two pro Oceania clubs.
Maybe if season one goes well then an expansion could happen. Two extra teams, the Nix and a New Caledonia team(if they rebuild Noumea by then)
As for Oz and NZ and the PI. Huge hypocracy IMO. For years we ignored the PI countries. Only useful for us for cheap labour for our factories and farms and a cheap winter holiday. They are some if the poorest countries in the world right on our doorstep and we did nothing for them.
Then suddenly China takes an interest in the region and there us panic in Canberra and Wellington.

Nail & head at least twice.

Don't forget our phosphate mining destroying Nauru, and exporting mutton flaps to Tonga the most obese country on the planet.
