We looked like playing away in the 2nd half, Lia always give away cheap free kicks..if it was him today then those 2 freekicks costed us 4 points..

not happy at all.
with the players first and foremost. with ricky for some of the changes he made, unless there were some reasons behind them (i.e. Ifill not feeling well or taking a knock).
Also, why do we take Ferrante on the bench when we have Caceres?
Chen/Costa would have been a lot more useful.

Ifill had signalled to the bench that something was wrong, and was later spotted with an ice pack strapped to his ankle.

But why replace our most skillful and classy player, with a journeyman bits-and-pieces sub?

Not like it happened in the last 10 minutes or so. We seemed to go into our shell when Ifill left the field.

Did we go into this game with the wrong bench?

I feel for you Jeff Vader - just got home from the game and all I want to do is arghhhh.... 4th minute of the 3 minute stoppage time but still, its quite clear what the Phoenix lack right now and that is clinical finishing. We have all the ball, some superb crosses and balls into the penalty area but lack the crucial balls into the back of the net.

I guess people are going to come in and post a whole sh*t load of angst and blah blah blah about how we SHOULD have won... but I ask this: seriously, what can we the Phoenix do to put away these games? Happy constructive thoughts people!

Zone was really off form in the second half - the chants we did were good but there were long stretches of silence... was asking myself if I was in a rugby crowd for a while.

God what a frustrating game of football today, first half we dominated for most of it and had the chances to bury the Fury, which we didn't take, as has been our way this season so far.

2nd Half we didn't come out and play, we let them dominate us and we stopped passing the ball through the midfield, the we lost Ifill and seemed to completely lose our impetus and our shape and a lot of our attacking threat, felt sorry for Greenacre who was putting in a lot of work up front on his own in that second half.

Frustrating day, against a poor Fury team who we should easily be beating at home, IMHO if we are serious about doing well in this league we need to be winning games like today, not good enough today for me...I feel really really frusturated...

We need to keep passing the ball as we did in the first half, 2nd half we let them dominated us physically and we seemed to stop passing the ball through the midfield, long balls forward are easier to defend, we need to keep persevering with the football and it will come, we seemed to lose our way again in that 2nd half...also we need to ensure that our attackers and midfield get forward to support Greenacre, especially when Ifill isn't playing...

Playing for 90 minutes would be a good start.

Also, not persisting with the same formation and 1 up front every week when it CLEARLY isn't working.

Overriding emotions are disappointment and anger - if we can't put away a depleted Adelaide and a very average Fury at home we don't deserve to make the top 6.

We must have some of the most average midfielders in the league - Bertos aside. Ferrante, Brown, Lia, Hearfield lack skill, pace (except TH), vision and, aside from the odd goal every now and then, can't finish for sh*t. Daniel has skill and vision but needs to harden-up - my 80+ year old grandmother could push him off the ball.

Lochhead thinks being within 15 yards of the winger is tight marking and needs some bench time to get some urgency and passion in to his game.

Tactics ; we have one of the shortest centre forwards in the league up against 6ft plus centre backs so all day we pump the ball to him in the air. Second half we were near as dammit hopeless - gave them the midfield.

Positives - bugger all but thought Caceres looked hungry - at least, unlike most of our midfield, he is prepared to have a go and his first instinct is to attack not to pass the ball back.

Pissed off - sh*t performance (2nd half) - too may average players in our starting 11 - rant over.

Solutions; play 2 up front, start Caceras, get Diego to deliver or sign a creative midfielder who well, bench Lochhead, bring back Aloisi and ...... head hurts.

awesome day out, crown figure was confusing - though it looked a lot more the 9500....I wish we could close games out, we were all over them in large chucks of that game and certainly had the better shots on goal - we seem to not have the ability to hold on to a 1 - 0 lead or extend it as we should have today. Wrong bench for mine, Ferrante offers nothing as an impact player, Cost would be better, or Chen even.

Steve-O, RH would have been very happy with 1-0 at half time.
Sure he just wanted them to hold on for the second half.
Sure looked like it.
Ifill's loss was a blow and thats where our Captain needs to step up, but with 'just hold on' ringing in his ears, he didn't.
Ifill for captain
Anyone for ' head ' coach.

I wait for his drivel with baited breath.

I knew it would be a draw.

I'm really happy for you if you're happy with 1 win in 7 games.

You're the one that talks continual drivel if you think this string of piss results is any good and the manager is blameless.

that's all because of Ricki Herbert.

as soon as Ifill came off,  i knew it would happen.

Herbert: "all right lads, knew formation - 10"

sack ricki.

I don't think we did. we were sluggish at the start of the 2nd half and lost our way when Ifill went off, 2nd half performance was nowhere near good enough for a home team, 1 nil up, against one of the poorest teams I have seen in this league....would have been happy if we had the 3 points but we huffed and puffed in that 2nd half and didn't do much...

Well quit supporting them then.

Seriously, we created a million chances today based on formation and tactics we played (in both halves) were the dominant side, apart from going out on the pitch I struggle to see how on earth RH can do more than that.  At some stage the people paid the money to score the goals may just actually have to do it.

Sure, if playing 1 up front meant we struggled to create chances then I could understand the angst but quite clearly that isn't the case.  We create plenty of chances, we control possession and we play more balls in to the area than our opposition, at that point it stops being the managers job and it needs the players to finish those chances.

I just wrote a huge reply to Whitby boy that got mangled by the server somehow.

Anyway summary: Phoenix = Win (in terms of playing football rather than the result).

Defense solid, midfield solid. Just lacking a certain *spark* in front of goal. Early days yet and the signs are STILL good.

Caceres = good, Ferrante = not, Ricki = still OK in my book.

Second half we had how many chances? 2 or 3 that I remember?

Chris Greenacre would be as well not even playing for all the chances that he gets created for him.

I would like another striker on the bench, at least gives us a chance to alter things around up front and try someone different if we are struggling to score.

This 4 subs thing doesn't help, about time they moved to at least 5 subs to choose from to give coaches a chance!

Most of us on here are phoenix till we die but after today a lot of the part time fans won't turn up next week after that even though we played great in the first half, the last 20 seconds could lose 3 or so thousand fans.

No, in case I get accused of me "tagetting him" (even though it's Paston I have the real problem with!) or being a racist

But god, how did he miss it, he only needed to stand still and let it bounce off him!!

Absolutely Gut. Most probably one of the best time i had had in the FeverZone in all 3 seasons. Sun beating down, good football. And then that Goal. Was a long injury time. but thought the ref had an ok game. the Caceras Free kick was rubbish to.

Next week. 4 points out of two games at home. I can live with that

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!
