Good to see the preview show is available much earlier this weekend!

Tegal looks like you got ripped off on the MLBtv just seen it's only NZ$5.29 for the rest of the season! It's available through the iPhone app too and I have a lot of iTunes credit bought when it's on special so really it'd only be about NZ$4 in real terms if I bought it, at that price it feels like its a bad deal if I don't buy it.

Damn, I must have got it a day or so before they put the price down again. Bad timing!

Great deal though, can watch pennant/wild card races and whatever playoff games you want. Its awesome for this time of the season.

watched the replay of HCAFC

stream locked up about 6 times

and restarting it all those times meant i missed bits of the match - or knew we'd scored before i saw it - by having to guess where the video was up to

couldn't take the gloss off a great 3 away points - but FRUSTRATING!

Yeah when I watched the Liverpool game live last night it was 'jumpy' . So rewound it 10 seconds and it was fine. Never had that before.

tried 1) going backwards and forwards, 2) waiting w/o touching anything, and 3) pausing and unpausing

nothing worked

had to restart the stream each time!

I find going down to 1600 for 15 seconds or so, then switching back to 3000 seems to work for some reason.

cheers, I'll try that next time

edit - assume there's a way to do that on the ipda app (hadn't noticed it yet but i to be fair haven't been looking for that option so far)

The Manc derby this morning just cut out, stopped playing with a window on the screen saying my session had "timed out".  Could not get back into the site for about half an hour (by which time, had to go to work).

Anyone else ever get anything like that/

Send a message to CSM telling them about it (although you will probably only get a response telling you to go fuck yourself)

No there's no option to alter bitrate on the iPad App...

This is the message I get when I log in elsewhere. E.g. If I'm signed in on explorer and then sign in on chrome, or if I'm signed in on the PC and then sign in on my mobile, this is the message I get.

Another good thing about having something like MLBTV over sky is the on demand games cover the whole game. A few times I have watched an MLB game for 3 hours only for mysky to cut the recording before the end of the game, incredibly frustrating.

that could well be user error - have you checked your setup lately?

Definitely not user error. Baseball games tend to go over the scheduled 3 hours. I tend to have to record the next show on ESPN just in case.

Interesting new article & interview with Tim Martin from PLP:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/english-soccer/news/article.cfm?c_id=500842&objectid=11131172

"He says a significant breakthrough in picture quality will be noticeable this weekend."

So, what will change this weekend?

We've definitely noticed problems with the wide shots - when the ball is hoofed upfield the picture goes jittery. Sport is the hardest thing to do on the internet because of the ball speed. We think we've got to the bottom of our problem, though. The issue was encoding compatibility between the EPL and NeuLion, our tech provider in New York. It's been frustrating, no question. We've been working on it since the season kicked off and it's smoother, much improved, and shouldn't have that jittery look.

Also possible broadcast of some games from final two rounds of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying:

"PLP... is investigating carrying the remaining Concacaf games that will determine who the All Whites meet for the right to go to Brazil next year."

The most telling part of that article is that he admitted due to the fact he had a long drive way (what a tosser), that his Internet was crap and couldn't handle his new product.

All I saw this weekend was judery playback as well as long pauses. With a 130Mbps Internet connection I expect to be able to stream 3Mbps fine. It's starting to get a bit old now

had to switch form ipad (v good picture quality) to PC not so good quality because the ipad kept freezing

a bit of a fucking drag

will tweet them ..... I guess I will see whether they've had that customer relations training yet

i do think their wide angle picture quality was better this week (well it was on the ipad when the stream was actually going!)

Is the service quality going down as a result of increased members or that top teams are playing top teams at the moment?

they do seem to have told the twitter humans not to be smartarses - so that's an improvement

as to a solution for the stream freezing on the ipad app "never one answer sorry. But like with anything technical best thing is to play around with it"

probs both weekends in 2nd half say 11.30 am - so, maybe more users online

not great - but then again i guess we are the international guinea pigs for EPL via web

Watched Spurs v Chelsea almost live (started at 1am). Connected laptop to TV via HDMI cable.

Worked fine, no issues at all, although i ensure i plug my laptop directly into the router rather than rely on WiFi.

Having no 'Play from the start' feature is a pain as i had to ensure i muted my laptop, covered the top of the screen as I scrolled back to the start to make sure I dont know the current scoreline.

Surely this would be an essential feature for those joining a game part way through...

Yeah agree. Its easy enough to click "live" and get to where the game is currently at, but not so easy the other way round. So if they can't let people have the option, it should default to the beginning.

Hopefully its something they'll work on for later in the season, or next season. That and a "start of 1st/2nd half" button (which I understand is something they are working on)

Can compare to the NHL now that the season has started. http://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/en/gamecenterlive?id=2013020007 I was able to watch a game live earlier without signing up. but it's supposed to be US$99.95 ($150 if you're in the states) for the regular season plus playoffs. also gives you access to the "NHL Vault" which is like pretty much every game from previous seasons (I think).

on a technical  level it has the same bitrates as PLP. you'd also think it would be harder to deliver Ice hockey over the net, with the puck moving fast, but it the limited time I watched it looked good.

I was looking into buying this package but I thought it was only for the regular season games.  Are you sure it has the playoffs as well?

I'm pretty sure it includes the playoffs, just in the states and canada they're not on live because they are all televised nationally so they're blacked out for 48 hours (over there).

Yep that's the same for MLBTV. Includes playoffs for international users. USA have to buy postseason.tv seperately.

If you're looking at getting it, potentially look at getting it through the iPhone app or apple tv if you have either. It's NZ$124.99 through their using itunes credit, and if you hunt around you can get itunes card for 20-25% so would end up being about NZ$100.

Just watched it and had no problems.

Thanks for the info about the NHL.  Will have another look at it.

after 5 or 6 fucked up deliveries via ipad have resorted to the PC, worse picture quality but at least it ( touch wood) plays without crapping out every 4 or so minutes

downloaded ipad app update - still crap

hope  the match isn't fucked up on ipad tomorrow

certainly testing my patience - if there were an alternative I'd be seriously considering it!

I see the iPhone app update has taken away the closed captions button and changed the rewind ten seconds button to 30 seconds, and the skip forward(to live) button with a forward 30 seconds button like on the nfl game pass app

happily, the ipad app worked the best it ever has, no glitches, hiccups or fuck ups

good picture quality too

Watched Spurs v West Ham this morning delayed at about 630am.

First the Good: I see the 'fast forward by 30 secs' button is now there.

Now the Bad: Probably the worst PLP experience I've had on the iPad (scoreline aside!). Good picture for about 5 mins, then quality noticeably decreased for another 2-3mins, then back to good picture and repeat for pretty much the entire game. There was probably half a dozen times, each a period of about 2-3mins where the picture was as 'blocky' as I've seen and bloody hard to follow the game.

Frustration again, having to sign in at the start, the the sound wouldn't work, so had to power of the iPad off, and restart and then resign in etc.

The fast forward button was good generally, but there were numerous times where I'd push the button, see the clock go forward 30secs, but have to wait 5-6 secs before the play restarted (ie system 'caught up')

The previous games I've watched on the iPad have been good, no drop in picture quality, but today's vastly different. I guess this highlights the fragility of the system and the numerous issues that play a part in a smooth viewing experience or otherwise.

Undoubtably the whole process is more involved than turning on SKY, choosing my recorded game and pushing play, and I miss the ability to 'fast-forward' but see the action unfold as I'm doing so. Often I'm trying to get through a 2 hr presentation in about an hour on a Monday morning before going to work (fast-forwarding the pre-match, injury breaks, stoppages for some throw-ins, corners, halftime etc etc).

This is impossible on the PLP platform.
