Definite reality check but still hopeful that we can push on from here on in. Due to the bizzare draw Liverpool has now played almost all of their away fixtures against the top teams. We've got Man U and Southampton away, but City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs all at home. If we can get points from all or most of those home fixtures we're still well in with a shot.

Yeah that's a nice way of looking at it thanks. All the Anfield games I mean. Crucial to not drop too many points in all the other fixtures too. Gotta pick up wins all the time against the bottom half, gonna go down to the wire this season I think.

Happy new years team.

A couple of tough losses over the break but I feel better sneaking under the radar rathe rthan being out front.Still super close, hoping that Everton slip up. A couple of new additions in the window and a reasonable draw might see us into 4th? Do we believe!!??

Happy new year Tyler!
Yeah man, cautiously optimistic having played the rest of the top 8 away aside from utd (which is less daunting than previous seasons).
Stevie has come back in and Sturridge soon too I believe. Another quality signing in the attacking 3rd would be great. Although we did well before he came back, we rely so heavily on Suarez.
C'mon champions league!

Seems we may get Sturridge back this weekend.

Hope they don't rush him back....our record at stoke isn't very good over recent times.  Need a win to keep pace with everyone else.  I'm amazed at the consistency of everton.  Martinez has really hit the ground running.

Agreed re Everton. I had just assumed they would drop off the pace after a good start to the season, but they're really performing consistently.

3 points an absolute must tonight. We do not want to go from top to sixth within a few weeks.

What a crazy game, Stoke were really good.

Mental game indeed.  So many talking points.  Happy to get the 3 points thats for sure despite gerrard trying to set up a barnstorming end to the game with that header!

Linds2 is back!!

Great to get the points today, things are tight at the top, and around where we are, every week I hope Everton drop points but they hang in there.

Great pass from Sturridge to Suarez for the 4th goal. So good to have them playing together again

Sturridge is a bit fast when you have not seen him in a while eh. Great game, but a bit nerve wracking.

If I sneak a goal at indoor tonight, I'll suck my thumb as a tribute.

Score a goal that doesn't cross the line! He was amazing in that 2005 Champs league.

All very quiet on the transfer front...........not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

We've apparently just signed Duncan Donuts (the article said Dunkin' but I assume that's either a typo or a nickname) and Baskin Robbins, a couple of American lads. Not sure where either of them play but sounds delicious :)

Ha him and Vince must have settled their differences then. Fun rasslin' fact: Bad News Brown has an Olympic Bronze in judo. Freaking awesome!

Did well to get it back to 2-2 this morning but thought we were gonna push on for the win so a bit disappointed. Gab & Benteke were giving us serious problems in the first half.

Stonewall Pen!

I was streaming the game and the stream stopped just after the Pen. Found a new one, two different commentators, two complete opposite views on the pen.

Yeah watched it and was happy there was contact.

Lol - i'm an Arsenal fan too; but that was a pen. Even if he is a diver, you can't deny him legitimate penalties.

yes you can

being a diver brings with it a higher chance of having legitimate penos turned down, as suarez and bale have both found in the past

reputation can be a b*tch

Yeah not good at all. He made a massive difference coming on against Villa. That and Gabby coming off I guess. Really screens the back 4 well, will be interesting to see the formation BR goes with as 442 wasn't looking hot on the weekend.

Lucas is a massive loss.  He has been outstanding.  Got to find cover for him surely.

Stevie G Defensive centre mid now? Jo Allen?

Permalink Permalink
about 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

saw some de jong rumours... he'd be a good option in there

Permalink Permalink

I don't think Stevie or Joe can do the job Lucas does unfortunately. He's crucial for us given Coutinho and Sterling can leave their fullbacks under pressure. I think Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge are competing for 2 spots.

Jeepers, missed out on Salah and now Glen Johnson is out indefinetly. What is going on.

We have as many injured players as Arsenal!

Man, I hope having a small squad doesn't come back to bite us later in the season.

Anyone care to submarine where we're at on the transfer front? Tragically I started a proper job this week and haven't been able to trawl endlessly through transfer blogs and rumours like I could in my last role!

We were torpedoed by chelsea on the Salah deal.  The rest are still just rumours.
Thats pretty much it.

Nearly impossible when a player is offered Champs league and higher wages...just hope it doesn't hurt us. Did anyone see the article saying we only had 15 players at training.

In good news, we won VS Bournemouth...Arsenal away next! Wonder who we will play in the quarters!
