How does it work for players that are already there, and playing though?

I know it means they wouldn't have been able to transfer there in the first place had the UK not been part of the EU before, but now that they're there, and signed under multi-year contracts, surely they can't get sent home for next season?

Also reading that the UK is going to take 2 years plus to go through the exit process, so does that mean it's the status quo until then?

More info still to come to light I guess.

Going to take time to sort through all these issues but I assume they won't retrospectively strip work permits that have been previously granted. Also by the time it all goes through many of these players will have been there long enough to get residency. Like I said in the Arsenal thread I expect there will be immediate price hikes for anyone who would qualify for a work permit now the player pool is going to significantly reduce.

On another note though, would not being in the EU mean UK based players cannot get Bosman moves when their contracts expire? Because that was an EU rule wasn't it?

I read about that bosman thing somewhere, I think you could be right ajc. Guessing that the UK would alter their law to allow for something like that now - but who knows? The old people voted this in, maybe things will be done old ways.

I also thought the same as you about residency, but I did read a list somewhere on twitter of players who apparently wouldn't have qualified for work permits last season under non-EU law, and Sagna and Clichy were both on it, which made me double take. No idea how reputable the author was though.

Edit: Did just see this quote from FA Chairman Greg Dyke; “Should the UK remain a part of the EEA, like Norway, then it will have to continue to accept the freedom of movement principle and little will change for English football.”

Also found a link with some decent info about possible impacts on EPL, put it over in the arsenal thread ajc

yeh that's the 'laugh'. If they want to get free trade access, they have to accept freedom of movement of labour too. So all that immigration control thing could be bs.

I want to put you all straight and let you know where things really lie with this stuff.

My brain hurts and I have no idea.

Clear?

Hahahaha

We won't actually know what will happen until the UK actually sorts their sh*t and decides what to do. They've voted to leave, but what that means for immigration, working visas, etc etc will not be known until they start putting their own laws in place. They may do a Norway and then that sort of stuff wouldn't really change anyway.

The EU are also saying "It's our ball and you can't play with it". They want the UK out ASAP.

It's been quite amusing watching the reaction to the whole thing.

It's almost like neither side actually thought Leave would win.

It's initially sounding like they want to do a Norway, which is laughable, considering Norway basically follows all EU regulations so that they can trade with them, but gets no say at all in EU legislation as they're not a member. If that happened, you would expect little to no change in the transfer/contracting of footballers.

But no matter what happens, the devaluing of the Pound has had an impact. ManU will be kicking themselves that they didn't get Mikhataryan over the line before Friday I'm sure, probably cost them a cupla million squid extra.

Apart from the value of the pound I don't see the Brexit having any impact this season. The withdrawal negotiations take two years, and then there could be an implementation period for even longer than that. That implementation period is where they'd figure out what happens for Brits abroad and EU citizens in the UK. So there's the possibility for an impact in the medium-long term, but unlikely in the next few seasons, and extremely unlikely this season.

Rumours Arsenal are trying to sneak in on the Mane deal.

Not sure about him either, remember being impressed when he played us, good stats but also attitude problems. Gives us some great pace and pressing though and that's what Klopp wants. I trust Klopp completely as long as the signings are his - Benteke will be on his way out, we have plenty of strikers, a new keeper, now we just need a left back and I think we'll have a decent season. No point overloading ourselves with players given we're only in 3 comps this year.

So how will we line up this season if you're picking your starting XI? I haven't considered Sakho as he may still get a ban, Gomez in at left back until we sort that position. Please NOT MORENO!

Karius

    Clyne      Lovren      Matip      Gomze

       Can     Henderson

          Coutinho

                Mane                        Firmino

          Sturridge

Pretty happy with that line up....Lallana, Origi, Ojo on the bench. Plus that one and only....2 and only James Milner and Joe Allen!

G

I've seen reports that Klopp wants Moreno to stay as he believes he can work with him. I'm not against that, the lad creates some chances, has pace and an eye for goal (if often wayward). If Klopp can work on his defensive frailties, he could become quite the player BUT he also needs a plan for LB if Moreno doesn't improve.

Just saw the list of potential "outs and loans" and the prices/wages savings we'd get from them - amounts to about 60m in transfer fees and 600k p/week in wages.

That's massive and really good to see Klopp simplifying the squad, keeping the potential talent where it needs to be. A massive squad with no Europe doesn't make sense and just muddies the water.

Thanks Skrtel for all the years you gave us. Pretty loyal servant to the club.

There were times I thought he was decent but for those time, I wonder how much of it was playing alongside Agger and Carra.

5 - 0 win over Fleetwood Town this morning - Grujic was apparently brilliant throughout, Markovic was poor, 16 year old Ben Woodburn scored and even Lucas netted.

Alberto next.....we've always said we need to trim down the squad. Things are already more streamlined under the new regime.

Looks like Liverpool will be buying Georginio Wijnaldum for £20m... Mediocre and overpriced if you ask me, for a position that is already filled with Lallana, Coutinho and Firmino all capable of playing as a no. 10.

Liverpool complete deal to sign Ragnar Klavan from FC Augsburg. He's an Estonian 30-year-old centre-back who had 140 appearances for the aforementioned Bundesliga club. 112 caps for Estonia. Liverpool press release.

Also, Bogdan joins Championship side Wigan on a season-long loan.

I see Stoke and LFC have agreed to a 14m quid deal for Allen - I wonder if LFC will pull out with the injury to Lucas against Huddersfield this morning.

Bringing in another 10 isn't the worst idea especially when it allows you to push Coutinho out left and Firmino out right which suits if they stick to just one striker up front.

I have faith in Klopp and around what he has said about transfers.

Sounds like Wijnaldum has now be confirmed. Plenty of faith in Klopp but I'm still waiting for him to sign one or two absolutely top shelf German players. Come on Jurgen, work your magic.

I reckon wijnaldum is quality, better value for money than sissoko imo

Right style for a Klopp side too - runs and runs and runs, plenty of athleticism

Sakho gets sent home for rehab but Lucas stays despite being injured? Conspiracy theories begin

Klopp has apparently had a few bust ups with Sakho about his attitude around the training ground and has reached a tipping point. Possibly he's not the leadership material some see, but more of a class clown?

For all of Klopp's craziness and joking around, he does demand hard, focused training to support the pressing style he employs and maybe Sakho has been found wanting?

It's not a good look huh. Supposedly one of our senior players with leadership skills. I'm a big fan of his but some pretty mixed responses from Liverpool fans.

These things have a way of picking up steam really quickly. Back to PSG by the end of the window?

Didn't Liverpool concede heaps more goals when he was banned last season?

Yes they did but they have added Matip since then and got rid of Skrtel and found Karius who I believe to be a more effective keeper in regards to controlling his defenders. We do really need a LB and DM though.

Klopp on why Sakho was sent home — The Guardian.

Jürgen Klopp has revealed he sent Mamadou Sakho home because of a lack of “respect” from the player. Klopp: "It’s not that serious. He missed the departure of the plane, he missed a session and then was late for a meal … I have to build a group here, I have to start anew, so I thought it maybe made sense that he flew home to Liverpool and after eight days, when we come back, we can talk about it."

“But it’s not that serious. It is how I said, we have some rules and we have to respect them. If somebody doesn’t respect it, or somebody gives me the feeling he is not respecting it, then I have to react, that’s all.”

Does Sakho not respect Klopp? Will he be dropped permanently? Or is this actually not that serious after all?

I think it was a standard telling off - go home, think about what you've done. Sakho has an excellent defensive record so as a player Klopp will want to keep him BUT if his attitude isn't right, he'll be gone. Klopp is all smiles and jokes on the surface but he's also wildly passionate about football and will not let someone undermine what he wants to achieve.
