Enrique locked in

Scott dann or Cahill next. Whoever arsenal doesn't want. Man I hope aqua stays......loved that post tk but I still think he will leave. Can't wait for the first game

I think Cahill is FAR too expensive for price and contract situation.  I'd much prefer us to sign a more versatile defender who can play at full back as well.

We've had a few mis haps in pre-season but we've rarely played with both our best back 4 and with Lucas.  In the one game we did, we kept a clean sheet.  Generally we defended pretty well last year once Kenny came in.

Can't get tickets to the Arsenal match - might hang out and see if there are any touted ones floating around but could be expensive...

Normo's coming home

That tickles, Doc!

Yay, happy about Enrique!

Agreed about playing with Lucas- think that makes a massive difference. In saying that, still would rather see someone in there ahead of Carra.

bolton bid for ngog? Sounds like we can only buy when we sell / clear the wage bill. I'm guessing Henry's put in a pretty rigid structure behind the scenes. We really need another striker imo. If carroll or suarez gets injured we are in the poo.

And great news about Jose!

Just wondering re strikers;does the reason we didn't follow up alleged interest in Wickham go by he name of Adam Morgan? I'm not suggesting he's ready for first team but Robinson and Flanno have done OK so ....? Just wondering.
Oh , Enrique
Now , a new CB please. If DC or KD are wondering who to look at , Jazz jr has a dossier with 4 or 5 names on it. He's done stats and vids for all of them.

Agreed, we need another CB but none of the players being rumoured ae what the Reds need imo. Plus Arsenal will end up buying Cahill for some obscene amount when Cesc and Samir leave

Anyone else getting a sneaking suspicion Suarez might start against Sunderland? With the exception of the Carling Cup, we have no midweek games till December so I don't see fatigue being a huge factor.teret2011-08-12 11:43:27

What a colossal screw up. Shoulda slotted it in the first place....and the penalty....Beckhamesque!
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Epic penalty. Blasted it out of Liverpool, let alone Anfield.

Great ball from Adam

I reckon they got caught worrying too much about Carroll and expected at his head. Nice variety!
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Not much of a push in there from Carroll. Adam seems to have found his range nice and early though. Good signs!

At least now we know why meireles was benched.....dodgy haircut

Terrible second half. Flannagan looked out of his depth and control was awful, Downing played well but most of the players still dont look comfortable with each other. Hopefully just a blip

Agree about Flanagan, he was so poor. I was thinking prior to the goal that he was looking so poor in positioning and marking. Wonder what the reason was for him starting ahead of Kelly.

I don't know how Richardson only got a yellow. But Suarez's penalty was shockingly bad. Carroll had a few decent half chances with headers but his timing was off on all.

On newbies: Hendo was average. Downing was very good when he got on the ball, but his touches were sparse. Adam's distribution was mixed and his tackling horrible. Enrique played well, especially considering he only just joined the squad.

Also have to say, even if it is hard, Wes Brown was a beast at the back, Anton also did well. Gah, I have a dislike for Sunderland (aka the Scum wannabes) Beardsley, Richardson, Brown and Bruce.

Got Jr up to watch this. He went to bed in a sh*tty mood -" told you Dad , Henderson's not good enough". Woke up even worse- oh what a happy day.

Did you not see Barton's haircut! That was a shocker!

Pretty disappointing.....all over them in the first half. Really needed to put another one away. We had them on the rack. Then second half we pretty flat. Yeah flanno was not at the races.

Positive notes. Suarez. Despite the pen he is a class act. Superb run from downing to hit the crossbar. Haven't seen anyone do that in a liverpool shirt for a long time!
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Downing was the best of the new boys by a long way, have a bit of a question mark over Adams great going forward poor in defense.

Suarez was class again.

The first half we looked awesome moving the ball about well using the wingers. Sad to see we played the long ball for most of the second half.

lets hope to see more of that 1st half than the second against the arse.kickarse2011-08-14 12:22:05

Well, a disappointing result to start the season off. We looked boss, and then just got worse as the game went on. Flanno got done a bit, but the kid is 18, and I still really rate him. A shame that it happened though.

Enrique looks brilliant. One day in Liverpool and he played like that. Suarez/s penalty was terrible, but you just knew he was gonna score. Carroll looked good, got involved a lot, and had the goal pretty harshly ruled out. Adam frustrated me in the second half, but he wasn't the only one. Looked good first half though, so plenty to work with. Downing looked good, and great run and shot- so unlucky. Hendo was quiet, but still, he's a young and against his old club it was a big game. Think he will look better with GJ behind him also.

Next up, Arsenal! Potentially the best time to play them, but equally they'll be fired up to deliver, so we'll see. We never do well against them either, especially away. Should be a cracker though.

Of course they don't look comfortable, thats what happens when you sign many new players, they take a while to gel.

Oh, and Dowd bottled it. Clear red card. So so clear. Not that I blame that, we weren't good enough second half to deserve three points, but thats a fking joke of a decision.

Disappointing yes but hindsight said we were wearing rose tinted glasses in the lead up and that we should have beaten Sunders by 6 was asking a bit much early on. We showed some fantastic glimpses of what we're capable of in the first half but the second also showed there's much to work on. Especially with a bunch of new players working out how to organise themselves when the going gets tough. You could see they struggled once the hoofs started appearing up to Carroll. I have no doubt that will get sorted, time is needed though.

I'm very happy with all our signings and I know we'll start to click soon enough. The Arse will be tough but if there's a time to take them now is probably it. Hoping Nasri will go this week too which will really put the pressure on.

Saw somewhere that we've already saved 30m in interest payments. Cash in hand for more spending, yay!
