how are they lining up? Team looks odd on paper, 6 defenders - who is in midfield?

what the! maybe with our lack of recognised forwards on the pitch we've resorted to Total Football and are using our defenders as attackers who just start from deep.

I missed the intro section because I was still making some toast for breakfast but so far it looks a bit like this:

Johnson kind of travels out to play on the wing and one of Gerrard or Meireles goes out to the other. it's kind of weird, but thus is it as far as i can tell.
 
edit: oh also wrt Aurelio playing CM, he tends to drift into the middle from his wing back position when Kelly has the ball on the other side to allow Gerrard and Meireles to make runs forward.

Yeah sorry, it was my attempt at an approximation haha, we're very total football at the moment, the commentator just said: "Gerrard, Meireles, Aurelio, they're showing up all over the place", so it's hard to draw a formation up without little arrows pointing all over the place. It makes more sense when you watch them play!

Yeah. Basically five at the back, three in midfield (including Aurelio), one in the hole and one striker!

Can't get a stream this morning, so frustrating. Tried over 20... not my day...

Meireles! He's on fire at the moment, fortunate goal and not much more than a thrash at it from about 9 yards, but after the 1st half chances I would say we deserve it!

Also provides KD with some luxury about timing his introduction of Suarez

Kuyt is legendary, full sprint to put the keeper under serious pressure in the 90th minute, his work rate and stamina are just unbelievable.

3 points, fairly comfortable and very good debut for Suarez.

Very good for us, 3 consecutive wins, another clean sheet (the commentator said this made Reina no.3 on the list of all time L'Pool keepers now) and kept the momentum up for the big game on Monday morning.

Good debut for Luis, some good touches and a few backheels and obviously the goal which may or may not be credited to him now.

I thought we played it very well. Suarez will be gutted if the goal isnt credited to him cause he did all the hard work but scuffed his shot! But he showed his class with those back heels and just seeing how big his smile was when he scored shows that he wants to do well at Perennial strugglers Liverpool. Bring on Europa League side Chelsea same formation IMO. If T*rres is playing just show him that were gonna go in hard on him and make him sorta tentative. Oh yeah and good to see Carroll smiling after all the stuff about him being forced out at Newcastle. YNWA

Was this the 'official' formation (or whatever was shown in the pregame section) or just your reading of it? Because in the game I definitely thought it was Aurelio at LWB, Johnson further up the pitch and Meireles closer to the midfield.

Weird system though and I can't help but think it may have been a dry run for the Chelski game on the weekend, considering how we can match their overlapping fullbacks with ours. Although you might think that Suarez will be starting if he's considered match fit which will change it yet again.

Yeah was the formation shown in the pre-game section. Maybe Raul moves back with lucas and stevie g. Aurelio misses out. Then the same back 5. Then Kuyt and Suarez up front?
