Sorry, not a huge Anfony fan myself, trying to do someone down with amateur psychoanalysis is the first recourse of scoundrels these days. Calling someone mentally I'll and using half-remembered psych categories to make it sound official is the modern version of calling someone a witch. Real psychologists and people with actual mental health issues are sick of this shark.

Do people actually want us to change coach a month before our intercontinental playoff? Jesus Christ, I realise Hudson isn't popular but that's absolute lunacy.

No one is saying that.  Everyone is saying he's busy lining up his next gig for after we don't qualify.

Is the Colorado job not available, like, now though? Cos I'm pretty sure people are saying they'd like him to take the Colorado job.

If it's happening surely it's after the Intercontinental playoffs finish? Is after all now only about 5 weeks away.

Compared to the situation at same stage in 2013, prior to the playoff games via Mexico, AWs are in a much much better place. There won't be any crazy last minute panic selections like Jeremy Christie, highly unlikely that any kids will make their debuts in these huge pressure games like I think both Tuiloma and Roux did in 2013???, and they have had the benefit of prior hard games at the Confeds Cup unlike 2013.

So compared to Herbert's regime in 2013, Hudson and Co have the AWs in a pretty good place. A squad of mostly experienced players that I'd guess have nearly all played 10 international games +, and AH can't really be criticised for not searching hard to uncover international quality players last few years, with over 50 selections made. Given NZs shallow talent pool pretty happy with his current squad bar no Boyd and Gleeson, which is another story.

Anyway I'll be giving AWs and Hudson my support, and his AWs legacy will be judged in the next month. Pretty sure he will gone after that, unless by the mother of all miracles AWs get through to Russia 2018.

the new colorado coach would be for the 2018 season - the 2017 season has two games left, and they sit 21 out of 22 on the combined table.

The MLS season is on the downward stretch to the play-offs.  They have an interim coach to the end of the season so it's a gig for next season not right now.

They have an interim coach until the end of the season... this chat is about him taking over for the 2018 season...

Has nobody considered that Colorado have an interim coach and Hudson will take over for the 2018 MLS season?

I suspect that Hudson will be their interim coach until they get a new coach for the 2018 season.

has anyone considered that Hudson may try and take both roles - i hope Colorado are not silly enough to consider it but NZF sure are.

It would set some new standards of stupidity by NZF management if they have spent all this time justifying Hudson and his cadre being employed full time to then claim he could do it part time.  Even the NZF high ups aren't foolish enough to be sold that by Hudson's agent.

Can still see a media release in the future that reads something like, "..delighted to announce that Hudson has re-signed for the New Zealand FA.....the NZ FA project is unfinished business....Anthony has rejected overtures from the England, the MLS, A-League and beyond to continue his role...." (until he finds another gig).

After the qualifiers, it's highly likely we won't play more than 2 games for 18 months, so there is probably not a lot for him to do.  Certainly time for him to take the job, get found out, get fired, and then be back in time for our next campaign.

In this day and age probably 50% of any workforce are keeping an eye out for another/better job. Nothing strange about that, esp if under say age 50.

Of course embellishing one's Wiki page with a few porkies (as alleged) is odd. Still I don't really give a shark about that, its the performance of AWs that matters.

Some skeptics might say that if everything is better how come the majority of performances are just as shark if not worse?

Unconfirmed reports have Antony Hudson short listed for the vacant Bayern Munich coaching job. Unofficial comments from Hudson say he  knows it is a big job stepping into Carlos Ancelotti's former job but his success with the All Whites gives him a good grounding to take over this position.

I think these can all be true - the level of support, resources, individual players, and the team trainings all seem to have inarguably improved. But the public image and the tactics/strategy and the end product, 90% of the time, have been disruptive/detrimental/not met the standards aimed for.

The defending by the AWs at the start of that Japan in 2024 was comical. Then from my memory Emblem's young team, did come back and Wood scored 2 really nice goals.

However the Japanese undoubtedly eased off after being 4-0 up in about 15 minutes. They also made 4 changes at halftime, so that would have disrupted their flow. It really was just a training run for them, as they were preparing for Brazil 2014. They had a few more good chances though, and it could have easily been say 6-2 or 6-3.

Expect a much much tighter game Friday night, esp with Reid at the back

When we played Mexico in the last play off I doubt they ever felt any real threat knowing we were going to their play off opposition... I'm not so sure they would be as confident this time round... that is a measure of success in itself.

Is the lack of consistency in our play his fault or more a reflection of our lack of games and time together?

Thing is Reid, Wood and Thomas, with Marco and Kosta perhaps knocking on the door, make this a generation with whom we should be achieving things.

Hudson's legacy may be with players like Musa, Lewis, Tuiloma and others that he seems to have helped to get gigs. Oh and especially the Ingham's and Dyer.

Herbert's team had a confidence and desire, and with players like Nelsen, Sigmund, Brown, Fallon and others didn't apologise for playing football in NZ. And Smeltz, Reid, Elliot, Wood, Leo, McG and ok ok Lochie too made sure the end results weren't too bad either.

We've got some quality, but have we got the spirit and determination as a team? I think that could come from players like Musa, Themi, Tuiloma and so on. We need that depth of determination. Musa has stuck at his job in the USA and is making some progress.

'Achieve' what exactly? About the only measurable achievements we can currently expect from the AWs are winning OFC Nations Cup, and qualifying for intercontinental playoffs. Hudson has managed both - the former without Reid and Thomas, and with a large dollop of luck.

To me it's a myth that we currently have a 'golden generation'. Reid is proven top drawer class, plus Wood and Thomas may get there. However too many of the other AWs players come from weak leagues (by an international standard) like USL and A League. Sure we have a lot more players in Europe and as pros in general, compared to even 10 years ago - but so now do most nations - given the continued cosmopolitan nature of the big leagues.

Japan for example until recently had nearly all their players in the J League, now they have a large presence in the European big leagues. We may have got stronger, but so has everyone else. As a wild guess only Reid, Wood and Thomas would go close to making the Blue Samurai squad.

A creditable fighting showing in the two SA playoff games and I'll give Hudson a pass mark, based as much on him giving a few young players a go, and increasing the overall player depth. The next coach will inherit a pretty sound setup, compared to the post Mexico mess of 2013.
