Things that piss you off... (Part 1)

^ The thing is, five asylum seekers died trying to get to Aust from Indonesia today. It was given 10 seconds of media coverage on a crappy FM station in Australia. And these people are desperate, and are trying to escape crap conditions back home.

A girl tries to sail around the world solo, for, let's face it, her own sense of achievement gets all this media coverage, get a Qantas airbus to fly over 2000km to find her, and then says in her interviews that she 'wants to try again'. She can get f**ked. If that was me, I'd be so crazy ashamed all all teh effort that went in to saving my stupid ass, I would just apologise profusely.

And I have nothing against strong women also, in fact I prefer strong women to weak. Which is why I'm sure this particular woman doesn't need Dairyflat being all knight in shining armour and protecting her from me calling her a bitch. Strong women can handle such things. If I called a man a similar name, I'm sure he wouldn't single that out, which is a double standard.

dammed if you do and dammed if you don't... lol many a guy complains about how woman don't like simple courtesy these days and maybe Dairyflat was just being gentlemanly which sure shdn't be needed but hey its hardly a crime. and I wd reiterate she's only 15 so prob isnt thinking about the bigger picture and is hardly a strong woman as far as dealing with personal critiscism

The ironic thing is that Dairyflat more than anyone on here prob agrees with you about media and the general public's ignoring of things relating to the poorer/darker inhabitants of our planet. He's often trying to educate us all and I'm sure he often feels frustrated so many of us ignore his political threads. personally I think its also ironic being upset about people's ignoring refugees on a forum about the world cup where we all tightly keep our blinkers on and don't discuss that Sth Africa forced hundreds of thousands of the poor & black into what many equate to concentration camps to get them out of the way of these flash new stadiums

I may just be speaking for myself here, but i think we all try and enjoy the World Cup for what it is, a month long festival of football that brings together a world of different cultures and races, and try to focus less on any negative aspects surrounding the cup.

Three for me, and two for them.

similar to how german villagers went about their daily lives during the war only focusing on the positives...

actually I wasn't trying to start a discussion about that simply pointing out to Cosimo that his worrying about refugees escaping crap conditions is ironic since we're all celebrating something that has forced thousands into crap conditions

Word of advice SK (not that I disagree with the meaning of your point) - try not to use Nazi references in forums unless actually talking about WWII, it tends not to end well.

Godwin's law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies or Godwin's law of Nazi Analogies) is a humorous observation made by Mike Godwin in 1990 which ...

Dairyflat could've argued my point but chose not to, instead he deflected by saying I was being misogynistic. Whether or not people ignore his political threads is a strawman argument. Also, there is no irony in ignoring refugees in a world cup forum in this context. I'm not comparing Abby Sunderland's case to the World Cup, or holding the World Cup to be the pillar of moral good, so it is fallacious to introduce it to the argument, which stands: Abby Sunderland's media coverage pisses me off.

I'm as guilty of ignoring many of his and also Aitkenmike's liberal umm whatever the polite word for rants is lol. I'm the worse type of liberal myself and only focus on what has caught my attention for some particular reason. I was just trying to point out that you were getting mad at the one person on here who prob feels exactly like you do. I have to admit I also found it highly funny you seemed so passionatly annoyed at it since your last things that ruled post was regards a "dump" and hopefully you didn't have the same fervour of spirit (tho in the opposite direction) regards that

I can't be silly and serious? Isn't everyone?

Plus, it was a spectacular dump.

My point was that the wording used was misogynist.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

The use of the term largely depends on context, it is not universally misogynistic.

I have a few cousins in the American military, one (a marine) died in Afghanistan last year. Tremendously sad.

Trouble is I can't even have a chat with that side of the family.  As one of the other cousins, the Marine's dad, said to me "we need to Fox TV to get the truth out there..."    dairyflat2010-06-16 18:40:50

Have a cousin once removed in the US Army.  Had his leg broken over in Iraq.  Fortunately that's the worst that's happened to him.

I saw some Hizbullah guys get shelled, five died, by the Israelis, in Lebanon years back. Never been able to work out what was attractive about the lifestyle...

Pays for his university fees.  He's adopted from Colombia.  Maybe wants to give something back to the country which gave him so much when he could have been on the streets in Bogota, I don't really know.  Have only met some of my American family. loyalgunner2010-06-17 00:24:22

People handing out flyers on the street ignoring me, probably because of my Chinese  ethnicity, & probably thinking that I wouldn't be able to read the contents of what they're handing out.  Hey mate, I was born here!!  I went through the primary, secondary & tertiary education system in NZ, after all that I think I should be able to read English, even be fluent in it!!  I just ask people not to assume things!!

My brother experiencing South African crime first-hand this morning (our time, during the AWs game in fact).  He got robbed by 2 guys in Cape Town.  They took his cash, camera, travel docs, mob phone, WC tickets & passport!!  He's okay.  They left him with his plastics.
