I saw the first half of wharf and united - there was a hell of a lot more passing between United than between Karori.  And probably lucky the linesman was having an off day as - no.23 Logan was making some dangerous runs down the left wing.  Maybe they should have switched him to the right wing so the linesman could pick him up sooner??

he was offside cos him and Nathaniel just hang out wide and wait for the ball to be pumped on the counter. Worked v Wests.

Nix def push that offside line. There would have been at least 20 throughout the game, they bank on linesman missing one

Yellow and red card/s for persistent infringement? Would have been justified with all those offsides in the first half.

You can't show yellows for offside... Even if there is persistent breaking of the offside rule.

    • entering or re-entering the fi eld of play without the referee’s permission

    • deliberately leaving the fi eld of play without the referee’s permission

I don't get thus. rogerson and co waiting high for long balls pumped from the CBs? Hasn't Ernie reinvented the nix, so dura and siggy play out from the back via riera et al. What is hedge coaching? Alignment anyone?

Good to see Upper Hutt get their first win of the season. Evidently, Saturday was their first home game since April.

i think it is persistent not multiple so as soon as you get back onside the offence is over and you are no longer persisting….. now if you stood offside always and made no attempt to get onside then there would be merit in your case i think.

I went to watch this game got there about 2 mins after kick off and UH already up 1 nil they scored again after about 10 mins then Olympic got 1 just before halftime, second half Olympic missed a penalty which was given for handball UH keeper made a great save then UH scored a third 15 minutes from fulltime to score a deserved win, the way they played hard to believe they hadn't won a game previously.

From what I've seen of the WeeNix - there are NO long balls. What they do is shift the ball from defence to midfield, who then play balls in behind the defence for Logan Rogerson and co to run onto. Zero long ball.

That's ridiculous. What other law could you ever apply that to?

You can't persist in kicking someone.

But you can do it repeatedly, which is what the law means.

Whether it's applied to repeated offsides or not is another question. Pashtrick best placed to know how the refs interpret it. (Roulette time).

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Smithy i think kicking someone is a foul that carry's a caution  but offside dose not

it's like kicking the ball out of the field of play is not a caution

so your argument is flawed a bit.

being cautioned and doing it again is persisting.

That's not what the persistent infringement rule is for though. It's there for when a player commits several fouls, none of which warrant a caution by themselves, but the player deserves punishment when all of the fouls are looked at as a whole.

Offside isn't a cautionable offence in the same way that a bad tackle is. And given that it only results in an IFK rather than a DFK, I'm leaning on the side that continually infringing the offside law does not give a player a chance of being g cautioned for persistent infringement.

Thanks Patrick, but that lino must have got a sore arm from flagging so many offsides

in a short space of time and maybe the ref should have some ability to do something

    about such goings on.

Probably just a result of two different styles coming into one game - one having a well organised, high backline and the other a that plays balls in behind the defense for their fast attackers. I didn't watch the game but Karori have always been one of the more organised defensive sides in this league, other sides probably let the WU/Nix kids run their defense ragged. Also, how is pushing the offside line a lot and being caught (a lot) an advantage to the attacking team? It's a FK/posession every time to the defending team...???

topleft07 makes a good point that the offsides might not be the fault of the attacking player but is a method for the defence to protect there area so would it be fair to give the attacker a yellow for that???????

to me if the assistant ref was calling lots of off sides then the defence was getting lots of breaks from play to rest and reorganise which is to there advantage so unlucky assistant ref perhaps you should let the odd one slip and then the defence might not rely on it's offside trap so much????

The yellow card for persistent offending was introduced to stop defending teams breaking up play with small niggley fouls that in itself may not warrant a yellow card. It can be applied across a team or an individual.

Free kicks for offside is hardly breaking up attacking play

You want an assistant ref to apply the laws of the game incorrectly and not flag when an attacking player has committed an offside offence, just to teach the defence a lesson? Okay.

just being a bit sarcastic…re the comments about the work load of the persistent flagging.

i want assistant refs to do the best they can to apply the rules like every player or spectator.

WHARF 4 ISLAND BAY 2 Two cracker goals (Ethan, Levi) in the first three minutes after halftime

settled this bright and entertaining match. Nick Lane scored the other two for Karori. The game opened

with a five-minute injury break which saw Caleb limp off and coach Shaun sent from playing arena.

Your offside argument is ridiculous and needs to be stopped from this point onwards. Last time I checked the defending team is equally responsible for an offside decision as the attacking team. Imagine being booked because your wide midfield player keeps hitting balls your way and the defence is organised enough and good enough to keep putting you offside.
