Stop making Foley sound cool, coochiee

I mean he is kinda cool though? Has some decent pubs, doesn’t put his own name on places, managed to get 24k Aucklanders out to support an Auckland team…

Some of those are near miracles!
Any "coolness" he's got is countered tenfold by being a Trump donor. I dunno how cool it is to be morally bankrupt

Only individuals of the ideological left are allowed to be cool. Pol Pot was the coolest dude ever.

To be fair, extremely wicked people can be cool, that's why there are so many films about the Mafia or the Yakuza

This latest endorsement has come late in the piece. Given what we know of Trump it may be difficult to do any business in a Trump presidency if you hadn’t endorsed him?

But yeh perhaps I’m taking a Beetleguese approach towards you know who until the important poll is done.

If kids nicked my flag I would absolutely not tell the country about it.
Bonnie Jansen quotes the Port's FB page. Maybe she went looking for the story?
I mean at least one NZ football reporter pops in here now and again for a look.

Did she say it was Jitka's fault? Bet she did

That is the same Nick and the same flag.

Dunno, maybe after 8 too many pinot noirs late at night online, he choose the AlliExpress 'finest Egyptian Silk' or 'no sweatshop labour' options. Or just maybe to him $35 plus shipping is expensive.

Still feel these young crims have made a grave mistake. As The Port is just NZ's mouthpiece for Foley Inc, there is likely a couple of shady Vegas characters enroute to Aotearoa, and in a few months four 10-11 year olds wll be found in a shallow unmarked grave near the Desert Road. Best they return that flag pronto. The Herald will be there to break the story.

Brilliant! Beats 'Top NZ cricket umpire found bound & drowned below Huka Falls'. They were the days! Edit: the Port Soldier will be on to it. Unless of course he's just a keyboard warrior.

This has all the markings of a great Owen Marshall short story.

The PM in his half-time interview on Saturday called The Port “Auckland Pride”.  I think.

Be fair guys, he was in Canada when women started playing sport rather than just making cucumber sandwiches and lamIngtons. You can’t sell off national sports teams so differentiating them is a bit unnecessary….

Auckland Pride would almost make sense when they move to Western Springs and near the lions! But that’s Brisbane and while many knights are referred to as lions on an individual basis, it’s unusual to refer to a group of knights as lions using the word pride.

Was Sakai referred to as a lion? I have a memory itch that he might have been. There was a supporter from Japan who came on here following Michael Fitzgerald and referred to him as ‘her lion.’

On the other hand, if they are getting involved in the parade I hear the politics of that are much more brutal than in a pack of lions!

I highly doubt the port people will be getting involved in any political agenda from what I’ve heard.
Mikey Fitzgerald, what an unsung hero. Deserved way more caps for the AWs than he did.

Just a joke around the word pride dude!

And if you think you’ve got no political agenda, it usually means you’re the mainstream of politics. Heh. I guess that includes the Fever too.

Yeh kinda of stunning in the J league how Fitzgerald’s team and also Machida with Mitch Duke have been going in J1. Guess we know why Aussie went with Deng and Duke last WC outa J2 now.

Edit: though they lost last night and a bit closer to the drop zone now.

You know I heard Allan Curnow or maybe it was Karl Stead used to have long conversations with their alter egos in the letters sections of the local papers…something to keep entertained and away from productive work. Much like when I post on here I guess.

Hope the team has this much variety in defense on the pitch all season.

Sounds like new fans from Auckland fans are going down the A-league rabbit hole and are slowly making their way here since this is the main NZ football forum. I suspect we'll see a lot more Aucklanders arriving over the coming weeks. (especially after the derby depending on how it ends)

See this is a big reason why I don't want to lose the first derby. Aside from competitiveness, these guys are just gonna flood the forum and all Nix social media. If they're already this bad a week and a half out then they're gonna be unbearable if they actually win. Big if though

We may be their biggest foe, but I would feel more deflated after a loss to the Victory, Sydney, Perth, Mariners, Adelaide, Wanderers, Brisbane, MacArthur, Snakes, Heart, Jets than to Auckland.

But seriously folks: here's a factor.

The tiny mob behind the misspelled T-AFC flag on Saturday were, with one exception, entirely new to active support. They didn't know about chanting, they didn't know about standing up at the football, etc.

And you know what? Every single one of those people, despite the tiny numbers compared to the huge and impressive Port turnout, had a great time and are coming back, maybe even bringing friends. People who didn't know what a chant was are now trying to write one about Liam Gillion. And they bought tickets and came because someone (not me) had the idea of "active support for lefties".

That is something that the trolls are trying to crush, for... reasons. Think about what kind of fandom that is.

It's great that your grandson can see representation of others like him doing well and thriving, especially in football.

There will be a lot of Nix supporters coming to Auckland for the first derby at Mt Smart. I believe our away bay has sold quite well for it.

There’s an area of the stadium specifically for away fans. It’ll be bays 8 and 9 for the Wellington game. I’m sure there will be some Nix fans in the rest of the stadium too, but that’s the area designated specifically for Wellington fans 😊

You're all good, it's one of the nice things about another team in the league if it brings other NZers to football (and gives representation too). Any other questions, just ask away and anyone will be happy to advise.

I work in tech, which means sports is rarely the subject of water cooler (or should I say energy drink) conversation. Post the first game though, a huge amount of people with absolutely no interest in anything remotely athletic have come up to me wanting to further discuss AFC.

Seems the marketing team has certainly done something right.

I'm not optimistic for the crowd this weekend unfortunately. Everyone who does anything leaves the city on a long weekend. An eggball final would struggle to keep people in town.
