Last game of the season approaching, lots of players coming off contract, no new manager yet and no news from the owners. Club to be folded at the end of this season?

A chilling thought hit me early this week but I didn't want to articulate it for fear of giving people in high places ideas, or for scaremongering. A "non-football" Accountant colleague and I were discussing Gareth Morgan, and I mentioned Gareth Morgan's Goodbye Charlie speech. Gareth doesn't do morose talks like that he said - unless he is softening someone up for some bitter blow. I went home and started to wonder what our owners would do if they believed their investment would be dead in two years... sell, perhaps to a FFA approved Australian entity? Perhaps the Kosminos of this world are trying to talk down a Phoenix entry price. There has been plenty of bad-mouthing the Phoenix from Australian 'commentators' recently, just about all of whom have a vested interest in getting rid of us. This might be for another thread, but we still don't have a Coach, and now Central Coast has one, even though there was plenty of daylight between Kalezic and Okon's departure dates.
That is probably best in the ownership thread

As for the coach, I don’t think we are at panic point yet. It sounds like they’re at the checking references and finalising their decision now, so can’t be that far away from an announcement. CCM probably hired theirs quicker because they’ve already given up on next season (their owners announced they’re only spending the cap floor). whereas the nix need to take their time with the decision as it’s very important for the future of the club - they can’t really afford another mistake.

Heard a rumour the Nix's preferred candidate is flying over to Auckland to check out the game this saturday and finalise an agreement. So that rules any local out.
If that's true we genuinely might know who it is within 48 hours, and I will be one relieved Nix supporter (depending on who it is). Surely the cameras would be able to pick out a Scott Miller/Popa/Rudan/Okon/whoever else it could be. I know it's so unlikely but god I want it to be Popovic, he knows how to have success with the underdog and isn't afraid to clear out the roster and bring in his own guys

He didn't bring it up though, he was asked a question and answered in a typical Gareth Morgan fashion.

The key question is, how solid is the source...

if he sees the team he has to work with in person he might withdraw his application.

Any likely Kiwi candidates living overseas spring to mind? (I know, I know, all speculation, but it fills the gap till we get a real name to opine on. )

Ryan Nelsen.

I remember when Nelsen was a player him saying he'd like to retire at the Phoenix...
Any chance Gouldie could be coming back? Would we consider him a Kiwi living overseas? And does he have the coaching badges? Well liked by the club during his time with us, more than just a goalkeeping coach, and knows the A-League... hmmm.

Sadly he doesn't have a Pro-licence.. in saying that he failed miserably at Toronto.

Greenacre is also a kiwi and needs dispensation so probably not.
I think Aurielo Vidmar, is our best option.... Tony popovic is overated

My understanding (conjecture based on clues) was that the club offered Vidmar a trial period for the rest of the season because quite frankly he's achieved nothing for about 6 years. He chose not to take that option so I would suspect the club has moved on.

Looks like the whole squad has flown up, so either Mad Monday is up in Auckland or there is something important that they need to be there for.
Or they have promo work to do for the sponsors.

I'm going to go with Sean Douglas or Vaughan Coveny......

I'm going to go with Sean Douglas or Vaughan Coveny......
Why? From what I can find, Coveny's only coaching gig was an unsuccessful stint with South Melbourne in the Victorian Premiere League after which he was sacked. And Douglas is currently Technical Director of Football Federation Victoria - way less qualified than Rob Sherman.
