I can't speak for ideas to work with locals, but i know the things that would help make it more realistic for my family & friends to get to games.

I remember back in the day going to a wellington rugby game at athletic park, and one of the pubs in town did a deal where you paid $30 or something, you got a beer before and after the game, and a bus to the park.

this is something that the nix could work on even in wellington with either footbal clubs themselves, with clubs like island bay, karori, miramar etc, or pubs

I think package deals with businesses round town is a good idea too. "Buy our product and receive a phoenix ticket for just $20". Hotels can also do package deals that include a phoenix ticket.

To get this to work you can have 'ticket vouchers' that can be redeemed for phoenix tickets. The club can have package deals for these vouchers, that maybe equate to a season ticket in price on a per game basis. You can make these available to businesses and either work out a promotion together, or let them use them how they wish. Maybe even make these voucher packages available to the public?

Again, the problem with ticket vouchers that are then redeemed for free is ticketek wouldn't be happy with losing their fee...So maybe the club can work something out with ticketek such as: for every one of these ticket voucher packages that is sold, ticketek gets some sort of fee. You could work something out, as like any voucher, not all of them would actually be used before theyre expired.

Just add the fee onto local clubs' charges for the artifical turfs.

I think he has every right to say something. We all got fired up when there might be no more nix.

Gaz & co saved the nix, but it's a business, not a charity.

And as mentioned, it got coverage, it's got us all thinking.

I'm pleased we have an owner who is not willing to do & say nothing.

(Actually, Andrew, that's "to spite their face".)

While I see where he is coming from, I think Mr G is missing the point somewhat.

Ask any hard core group of supporters anywhere in the World how they'd feel about a number of games being played hundreds of miles from their "home ground" and you'd get the same reaction.

Buying a season ticket is based on the assumption that you will go to every game, if games are being played "away", the likelihood of getting to every game becomes less, because of travelling costs, work commitments etc. Why should supporters pay for seats at games that they know they will be unlikely to attend?

If the club decides to play more games away  elsewhere, they should (IMO) offer the option of a season membership for the games being played at the ROF only, with the corresponding drop in price.

Oh dear.
Sorry, but I think Gareth's comments sound too much like a petulant rant for my liking.
Reading the previous few pages (esp Terminator X) there are some really good ideas here. Perhaps Welnix should have invited input from this forum before trying any new marketing ideas? There's some really clever stuff here, lots of it cost-neutral to the Club, yet the best AbFab Marketing Inc. could come up with is a sh*te All Blacks day? Speaks for itself really.

We need to win. That brings crowds. It's been proven several times. Keep winning, we'll build our fan base. And always remember.......

here what Fred has to say

last paragraph where he echos the Newcastle evidence that Wellington should be getting bigger crowds - like Gareth and eeryone else not in YF they seem to be forgetting the ease of access to Newcastle the away fans have. Noobcastle vs Sydney - for sydney fans its a 2 hour drive, or probably a simply train ride to the game. Against CCM the away fans have an hour to drive. To get to Welly it's a 3.5hour flight which not only costs a lot but takes a lot more effort than "let's drive for an hour" to watch the game.

Re buses from regional centres - why should the club put these on? There are such things in the world called "supporters clubs" that organize buses to take fans to and from the games at their own expense.

Perhaps groups of like minded individuals in Kapiti, Manawatu and Wairarapa could start up their own regional W.P.S.Cs and organise buses too/from games (and speak to the stadium management about bus parking at the ground)

Re the Ten ticket idea.. Think it's great and think there could be some options around the following..
Ten ticket single, ten ticket family
Six ticket single, six ticket family

Realize now that you can't lock down seats as you don't know specific dates..duh.
One possible solution is for Ticketek to create a degree of access or a self service portal to manage these tickets.
If they allowed you to buy at the fixed price, access online or via mobile to lock in games and seats, saying which you will definitely attend, with firm deadlines to confirm by for each game or you miss out.The onus is then on you to manage your ten or six match allocation and confirm by the due time.

that's fair, but then if you read the artivle Gareth's assumption that our $NZ29 + booking fee. is the cheapest in town is wrong, $A25 to get into Perth, $A60 including booking fee for family tickets, where we pay $NZ70 + booking fee. If $36 for an adult is seen as too high then the nix need to reduce the cost or get Ticketeck to stop gauging us $5 a time.

When I first read Gareth's tweet I thought the tone was unfortunate and reminiscent of the NZRFU's threat to take test matches away from Dunedin (?) unless more people bought tickets - threats typically result in the opposite effect to that desired.

On reflection I thought fair enough - the guys stumped up with his own money, and is investing significant time, to save and secure the Nix for the benefit of NZ football and Wellington. It is not unreasonable for football supporters and Wellingtonians to be challenged to front up at games.

Sometimes I think we can all be a little precious and sensitive about the way messages are delivered - yes the tone could have been better but the message is not unreasonable and the subsequent discussion (as have previous similar threads) is generating a number of good ideas.

Ok Mr Morgan - been a Gold Season ticket holder since day 1 and rarely miss a game (well never miss one if I am in Wellington).

By all means move the home games all over the country, but be sure you will lose at least one season ticket holder as a result.
