Would the team from last weekend beat the team usually taking the field in season one?
I get 6/14 who would get a contract at the Nix right now.
But that's not the point at all. We aren't playing against Season One Phoenix every week.
Jeebs Patrick, you're a hoord torsk morster
I'd say 10
Current squad - according to Wiki. Keep or let go??? IMO 12 keeps out of a squad of 23 + 2 youths

Queenslander 3x a year.
Gotta keep Smith. Let Galloway and Rossi go. I would give Dura 1 more year if he wanted it.
I count 13 keeps, 11 let go's, and Kaluđerović.
Pretty much agree. Would probably let Kaluđerović go too, unless we recruit teammates for him that suit his style better.
Could be persuaded to keep McGlinchey and Keegan Smith (so long as he's definitely a reserve goalkeeper for another year or two).
Not sure about Galloway - thinks he's another who plays much better in a team that's playing a style that suits him.
"You've nailed it in a nutshell." - Mark Rudan
Let's keep the current squad "keep or leave" in the Contracted Players thread where its already being discussed.
Yes. Please take it to the other thread so I can ask why anyone would keep Galloway.
For the record:
Glen Moss (GK)
New Zealand Tony Lochhead
Brazil Cleberson
Australia Karl Dodd
New Zealand Steven Old
New Zealand Jeremy Christie ↓64
Australia Ross Aloisi (C)
Australia Michael Ferrante
Brazil Daniel
New Zealand Vaughan Coveny ↓76
New Zealand Shane Smeltz
Substitutes:
New Zealand Jacob Spoonley (GK)
Australia Richard Johnson
Brazil Felipe ↑64
Australia Royce Brownlie ↑76
I'd take:
Daniel, Moss, Smeltz, Lochhead, Coveny and for the utilitiness Christie!
So something like this
Krishna, Smeltz, Burns
Daniel, Paracki, Ridenton
Lochy/Doyle Mullen
Fox Dura
Moss
Bench: Lochy/Doyle, Singh/Coveny, Ljujic, Christie/Galloway, McG Velaphi
Not sure about the right back. Dodd in for Fox would free Fox to right back.
Let's keep the current squad "keep or leave" in the Contracted Players thread where its already being discussed.
sorry

Are Nix a chance with Spiranovic? Could build around him and Fox at CB. Dura could go on for a couple more as a backup instead of retirement.

A very decent defender, still in his prime. His main motivation by now would probably be career money rather than Socceroo selection. I would say he is unlikely to be called up to the national duty, unless Marwijk (the new coach) decides he is worth a look over the current crop. I personally doubt it as he has always been on the fringes of the senior team only.
Spira can still command a decent coin in China, where has spent the last three seasons, and apart from the two seasons with the WSW has not played in the A-League. To make him an offer it would have to be a good one (marquee?) to lure him away, and to overcome any misgivings: he is a good friend of Dario Vidosic (they both played for Nuremberg and for the Olyroos) and Dario's comments on his Nix experience (and on Darije in particular) might be less than complimentary.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
Head Coach of the Wellington Phoenix, Darije Kalezic, wishes to announce that he will not be continuing as Head Coach of the club next season.
The parties were not able to find a mutual agreement on how to proceed forward and because of this have decided to move in separate directions.
Back to square one.
Just got the e-mail from the Club. He's gone at the end of the season!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

If only I could be optimistic about this. As I said, the people who will appoint his replacement appointed him in the first place (and Rado, lol).
The fact that he was honking as a Coach notwithstanding, cos his staying on was always in doubt because of that, but I can't help thinking that he was talking about the Club needing to make big changes next year, now he's apparently leaving because he can't agree a way forward with the Club. I hope this isn't suggestive of the Nix powers that be just being happy to let things stumble along on and off the park in the same, shambolic way and not being willing, or able, to change things. Other than getting new Coaches in every 5 minutes, obviously.

We have burned bridges with Ramon. No chance he comes now.
RIP nix.

This will be a restart with new logo and everything next season. #sarcasm
They are not even able to let him go now and inject some hope. And we can't expect any decent football for the remaining games.
This guy simply is a clown. The Nix management need to take a hard look at themselves how they could hire someone so poor.
And we can't expect any decent football for the remaining games.
I don’t think anything has changed there.
Big news. How is next season going to be much different? New coach inherits old coach's squad. Takes a while for replacements/new tactics to settle in (if they do), not much prep time. I don't expect them to have a replacement lined up already, but if they did, would rather see him come in charge now. It's risky to come in to our most important season (last of our current license) under a fresh new team and coach. I assume the Matija, Kalu, Paracki will miss having a fellow European in charge, and we may lose them because of this decision.
Also wonder what this means for our younger players as for next season? Despite the negatives, one thing Darije did well was at least try to introduce youth to the team. Smith, Ridenton, Singh etc.
All or nothing off-season coming up.
What the fudge. Fudge this guy. He ruined this year with his erratic man management and unsual tactics. Get the fudge out now. Don't wait 6 games, just leave.
Hope the Nix board so more interest in NZ football than NZ football and hire Ramon.
Can we have the Vidosics back now please?
So, at the end of the season we have something like 14 players coming off contract and no Coach. Why do I think next season is just going to be more of the same rubbish we've had to suffer this season!
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Lots of people calling for Ramon, I still think he will be a bit of an unknown quality. He manages the richest team in his league, which have plenty of foreigners. He would be coming to one of the more frugal clubs, who are one of the regular strugglers of the league they're in, with limited VISA spots. Would someone with more A-League experience be more apt? Popa?
Whether or not Kalezic was a good coach (and should have been given the job) is up for debate, but he certainly made a number of interesting and, in my opinion, valid points about the club off the pitch. It seems management wasn't willing to listen and we are back to square one.
My pick for next coach would be Mark Rudan. Australian and former Fox commentator, so might give us some kudos across the ditch, and he wasn't bad at analysing the game I thought.
Or what is Sir Alex Ferguson up to these days?
Just as a note, Ramon doesn't have a pro-licence. He needs one to come into the Nix. A-League rule. So any speculation around him is moot until he gets that
Shame we had to lose Vidosic(s) first
A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

0 chance Popa or any other respected coach comes to the club.
Losing Vidosic seems even stupider now. He was the one guy who would've been able to assist us in getting better quality Aussie players. (i.e. a Spiranovic)

Agreed; made quite a few points that were absolutely correct.
The strange thing is that when he talked about tactics, I felt like it was spot on - he just couldn't implement anything. Whether that was because the players aren't good enough is up for debate; probably a bit of both.

To be fair, I think he did lose a bit of respect by shooting himself in the foot by leaving his club a week before the season started for a club he barely lasted a month at.
