Another victim of Too Good For The Nix Syndrome?

Another victim of knowing his worth.

If we could have afforded his wages, I have no doubt he would have stayed.

Another victim of wanting to play in Europe (and in this case not league of Ireland or second tier in Denmark/Portugal or Austria but a dam good respected league)

If the Nix are a pathway to players playing in the Dutch league then we are doing really well

Auckland will rise once more

He only ever had nice things to say about the club and city, and always said this has been the best period of his career and the happiest he's ever been with a club. He also said the Nix was the best run club he's ever been at.

I have no doubt that if we could have afforded him he would have same, same goes for Kraev.

Don't throw those boots completely away.

Auckland look a little light on CB stocks, and with 2 injuries he may get a phone call! Looks like Boxall spent a few weeks with them in pre season, including one of their trips to Aussie. That's presuming Sakai would be the 4th CB behind Hall, Pijnaker & Smith.

Still don't seem to have signed any young local CBs on scholarships??

Adama Coulibaly can play CB, DM, CM, RB and RW, but is probably mainly a CB?

So many footballers end up as REAs? Why? I guess you gotta have a certain personality to be able to perform in front of a lot of people to be successful as both? You couldn't pay me enough to do that (being a REA, I'd be happy with $1 a game to be a pro footballer ahahah)

Being a commercial agent is different though. Less weekend work if any.
Very numbers driven, and your buyers mostly knowing exactly what they want.
I imagine can be a lot more openess and honesty as a result.

Wonder if Boxall jnr knows T Lochhead?
Mr 12 pubs also works for Colliers International as a commercial agent in California

Zawada has been dropped from the starting line-up which is big since he's the captain. checked out the Waalwijk forum and nothing they talked about implied he was injured or off somewhere so that's pretty worrying for him. wasn't even on the bench

Yeah I saw this too and looked for any injury news and came up with nothing. They scored 2 goals and got a draw without him this weekend which is the best they've done so far this season - so it doesnt look good for him when they've had their best game so far and he wasn't involved

I saw someone on the forum say something along the lines of "He'll be on an island as much as possible" Not sure what that means, hoping someone with better football lingo can help me out here? I assume it means he plays alone a lot?
over 1 year ago · edited over 1 year ago · History
Not sure what that means either but he's just injured - although the striker who replaced him in the starting XI scored so not ideal for him. twitter.com/WanrooijJurre/status/1847690883820327250

First goal for Zawada for his new club RKC Waalwijk this morning in a 3-1 win over Vitesse.

3-1 win in a Dutch Cup tie against Vitesse Arnhem (currently 2nd last in Dutch 2nd tier). Is the first time in 35 seasons Vitesse have been relegated to the 2nd tier.

Bit of a mess, all to do with their former Russian oligarch owner, Roman Abramovich and Chelsea, plus the war in Ukraine. Vitesse were nicknamed Chelsea B, for all the players sent there from Stamford Bridge
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5589210/2024/06/25/vitesse-arnhem-abramovich-chelsea-licence/

Vitesse were deducted 18 points by the KNVB licensing committee, leading to the club's relegation from the Eredivisie. This punishment was because of Vitesse's “repeated failure” to meet licensing regulations over an extended period

Nice! On the board for the season - hopefully the first of many more

Although considering how RKC have been going, he probably wont get too many this season. But hopefully he can make himself their leading scorer by the end of the season

Great stuff!

Also hadn’t realised vitesse had been relegated. Went to the gelredome a couple of times for holland games. Loved it as a stadium and also like them as a club (pre oligarchy days). Hope they manage to survive.

What must sting extra is that they were up at first until one of their defenders got a red and then game was level 2 minutes later.

TBH honest if his goal was to play for the Polish national team he probably would've had better luck staying with us. At least in the A-league he would've been scoring goals.

Sad to see but what can ya do?

Polish national team is currently well below their heyday quality of 1970s, 1980s or even any time later.  They managed to beat Faroe Islands but struggled against Moldova. Comments in the press routinely consider the players to be overpaid and underachieving (the readers' comments).
So one would not expect the selection bar to be set particularly high, but it seems Zawada is not on their radar. it may have less to do with player quality than other factors.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

At face value it looks all about him being overlooked because, he just ain't good enough. Poland have called up these forwards for the November window

27 yr old Karol Świderski
37 caps  11 goals, is with Charlotte FC in the MLS (7 goals in 13 games)
29 yr old Krzysztof Piątek 32 caps  12 goals, is with İstanbul Başakşehir in Turkish Superliga (6 goals in 11 games this season)
28 yr old Adam Buksa 18 caps 7 goals, is with Midtjylland in Denmark (4 goals in 8 games this season)

In the last 12 months they have also selected
36 yr old Lewandowski at Barca 156 caps 84 goals
30 yr old Arkadiusz Milik at Juve  73 caps  17  goals
23 yr old uncapped Adrian Benedyczak at Parma

28 yr old Zawada would need to be really banging them in, in the Eredivisie to give himself any chance of a callup. He's still yet to score in the Dutch top flight this season, and unfortunately for him RKC Waalwijk (last, only 4 pts in 12 games) look pretty sharke.
Looking at the leagues those guys are playing in, it’s not too far fetched to say a bit of form could see him very much in contention. Eredivisie is a good league and it can’t be behind the Nordic or Tukish leagues you’d think.

Oh for sure. The only thing is looking at his career his time at the Nix (22 goals in 40 games) is very much an outlier. He's never been remotely close to those stats anywhere else.
https://us.soccerway.com/players/oskar-zawada/289870/

In Holland a brutal assessment would be he's reverted to type, not doing much. Yes early days, and his team is sharke but can see why he is not on the Polish radar much at all. He'll be 29 next February.

Piątek has 6 goals in Turkey already this season, and got 17 last season. He's played Serie A and Bundesliga. Świderski has been a consistent goal scorer in the MLS since 2022 with Charlotte. 29 goals in 75 games. Had a loan deal with Hellas Verona in Serie A amongst that. Buksa 16 goals in the Turkish Superliga last season before joining Midtjylland. Consistent goal scorer with New England in the MLS before Turkey.

These 3 guys (27-29) are similar in age to Zawada. Hoping to fill Lewandowski's big shoes, but just with far better club careers than Oskar. No doubt a few others out there as well on the fringes.

Zawada's return to Europe, was about money, rather than any serious national team ambitions.

Thanks Coochie - now I will be lying at night sleepless wondering why, with such decent players, the White-Reds had such crap Euro 2024 tournament (again).

No Zawada. Would have been a surprise break out star.

Plus all these tournaments are weird because the best players are exhausted and playing their 60th game or something.

I’d say mostly though because no one funded you to go and watch it live. Give the embassy or consulate a buzz and explain your extensive anti- jinx knowledge.

All very solvable for the next WC.

Picking Zawada for Poland would be a bit like currently picking Alex Greive for the AWs, if he'd gone and scored a heap of goals in the LOI, after leaving the SPL. Greive of course didn't do that, but even if he did you wouldn't pick him ahead of Waine, Barba or Mata.

I'd have him back here no problem. He was a decent defender alongside Woots. Just that Fin was even better. And now Fin has gone.

martinb san genuinely half the time I struggle to decode your posts. There are some are yes interesting nuggets amongst them, but man often it seems it's the random thought bubbles of someone on an acid trip, pulled out of a magician's hat and then scribbled down with undue haste. Hither and very thither. Doubt I'm Robinson Crusoe.

Do enjoy the abstract historical cricket references though.

Yep, guilty as charged.  The badge is of my Pogon Szczecin, which started up in 1948 (after the borders changed post WWII and the city was included in Polish territories).
The club badge honours the colours of the German football club pre-WWII which also had a similar griffin logo.  The city itself, and the province of West Pomerania, have a red griffin on a blue background as their coat-of-arms colours. The red and navy strip has traditionally been the Pogon kit colour.

If only I was born a Beatle that combination would have made me very rich. Curse the day when my parents told me to go to football forum commenting school!

That and I was an off spinner so go figure. Bamboozlement was quite a plus there though…

Not an ex-nix player as such - more ex-nix adjacent, but Bozhidar Kraev's brother Andrian scored his first national team goal for Bulgaria in this mornings 1-0 win over Luxembourg in their UEFA Nations League matchup.

Couldn't work out where else to post sorry. 😅
