isn't that player Stein? from what i've seen he prefers the ball to feet instead of the high crosses, and the couple of times he's received this he looked dangerous.
I would've said so, yes.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

so rather than spending mroe money on another player, excluding the midfielders that can make that pass to feet a viable option, lets just change the way we get the ball to our stikers.

Pretty simple really, huh?
If we had the midfield players to do it

Even if Fallon or Killen didn't start, I just think they offer something neither of our current crop do. We are so useless when balls come into the box.
Maybe we need to stop playing that style then instead of trying to find players who match it.
Thats a good idea.
Perhaps we could sign a striker with good pedigree and experience who's much more adept at playing the ball on the ground.
Luis Corrales comes to mind and he's now back in Wellington. Give him another chance, he's certainly better than Totori.
Feverish is better than Totori. That doesn't make him A-League quality.

Bazinga.
To be honest I'd rather Smeltz over Fallon/Killen any day of the week.
Smeltz does have the benefit of an excellent scoring record.
He would be the more expensive of the three you'd assume. Isn't he off contract next season?

"I take that as a slight on the club. We are $700,000 more. If you go to at least five clubs, they pay underneath the salary cap, and we were $700,000 over the salary cap.
I think playing the ball to the feet of any strikers has been non existent since day 1. It's either the big hoof ball or down the wings with various quality crosses - usually poor ones. Sorry, but that's what I believe is an honest comment 5'8" strikers trying to out jump 6'4" defenders so to speak.
Not saying we should have signed him coz all thats all water under the bridge now but Caravella looks to have matured into quite a handy footballer. He was easily man of the match a couple of weeks ago when I watched him playing for the Jets and he looked classy against us for 25 mins until he got munted by Brockie.
That kind of player would be handy for us in midfield. Someone who can play the short and long passes well with either feet. He was dropping deep to pick the ball up from the defenders and then distributing it before moving forward and linking up with the attackers around the box. Always l;ooked to have lots of time on the ball which is always a sign of a good player.
That sort of player could provide the link up to Hernandez. I actually don't think we are currently too far off whats required to get a good squad. If we can keep Gamiero, get a couple of quality midfielders, move Muscat back to RB and get a quick LB then we are nearly there. To me we are short of about three quality players....the rest of the starting 11 is of OK A-League standard. Its all about getting those right recruits and especially getting a coach who can get the best out of them.
People have been bagging Stein and Fenton and Boyd but IMO if you get the right support players and get the tactics right then they will very good for us.

i dont think boyd will last TBH. Fenton definitely.
I think Boyd with some gym work to give him body strength could well be a success. He hasn't really been played to his strengths either, Like Stein.
or given much chance playing as a central striker (his natural position)
Boyd is just out of highschool FFS....he started the season as a 17 year old. The A-League is a rough tough place and especially so for a youngster. He came in with only 9 ASB Prem games under his belt. The problem for kids like Boyd is it takes quite a while to build up the stamina and endurance to train and play on a fulltime basis. Boyd has shown flashes of absolute brilliance(outstanding in the CCM game where Arnold acknowledged his ability) I feel sorry for both Fenton and Boyd.....both bright young talent who have come into a disfunctional setup and a team thats getting its arse kicked every week. If handled properly Boyd will be a very good player in a couple of years time.
Cut the kid some slack

Who's bagging him? Certainly not me.

Re: Boyd & Fenton
I've been more impressed by Boyd, than Fenton. Often when he gets the ball, it does feel like something will happen. Hopefully in a couple seasons, he will have the impact Marco had.
He was set to come back here when he signed for Perth but Terry's meltdown sent him West.

Agree with that above, seem to recall many people moaning that Costa and Marco were never a chance .They got their first chances with us then went on to develop considerably and wasnt it in both their 3rd seasons that they really started to show something.(i stand to be corrected on this).Think Fenton and Boyd have been used a lot more this season than was maybe intended at the start.I for one think its to early to be calling it either way, give them the same amount of time as the other two got then maybe it will be fair to pass judgement on them.

Couldn't agree more - they are the future. Fear an out-of-contract Hogg may move on if he can't get more game time to prove himself, so I hope he's used in the remaining games of this season. I think Boyd has shown flashes of real quality potential, especially as he's still so young. Hope some more young Kiwis are given a chance under new management.
Odd co-incident that Ricki took over at the fading Knights with five games to go and left a struggling Phoenix with five games to go.
I see that Clapham has been awarded ASBP footballer of the month for a stellar February and could well win the Golden Boot. Surely deserving of at least a trial by the new Phoenix coach don't you think?
Also see ACFC's Spanish coach has publicly thrown his hat in the ring to replace Ricki. I think he's off contract at City in May. What are his chances do you think?

Minimal. They will go for one of the A League coaches out of work, or one of the current A League assistants, or Oz youth team coaches (Okon). There will be foreign interest, but huge risk attached there, and will be aware of the dismal track record foreign coaches have in A League.
What do people think of Cam Lyndsays future at the Nix? Only got a couple of half games to do his stuff and did not exactly shine...but he wasn't crap either. Considering how honking Lia was last match would Lyndsay be any worse? IMO part of the problem at the Nix is guys can put in a shit performance and they know they will get picked again next week. Would it really hurt the team if Cam was told " OK son, you start the next two games, no pressure, see what you can do" . If Lyndsay got a couple of starts before the end of the season at least the club would get a better understanding of whether he can cut it this level because IMO he has not had a fair shot.....tough to make an impression with only 2 shots off the bench in two years.
There is a possibility that Lyndsay might have a future at the club....I can't say the same about Lia even though he still has a year on his contract.
