Although it isn't, I get the impression that this year it has moved in that direction given the number of young promising players that have signed. Ricki will be able to keep an eye on players in wellington more easily than anywhere else.

All I took from the article is that he has signed for TW and Ricki is at least vaguely interested.

My take

He`s trained well but needs to be seen in a game situation. Hence off to TW
How old is he?   Could he be in line for a yoof spot next season?

Interested about this Darren White. Tony Smith just talking him up or is he actually A-League material?

He's an ex-WYNRS lad back from Germany (same bath as Peverley, Hoffman and a number of others) never exactly cracked it in Europe but would be interesting to see how he goes.  Don't think he made the last training squad which must make things difficult although NZ football did retweet the article so they obviously know he's about.

Not surprised there has been some movement on Zucco. He looked a little rough around the edges when I saw him play in the TW game but he has enormous potential......powerfully built and has a strong shot with either foot(kind of like Serg Van Dyke). Well worth checking him out at TW for a while and see how he goes over a few matches. Sensible route for the Nix to take.

Interesting. So we are looking at bringing in a young striker from overseas and there is an Englishman wanting to play for Olympics team.

Didn't really like his comment that he will return to England if he doesn't get in. Strikes me as a bit fly-by-nighter. If I was the coach (and this is country, not club) I'd want to see him commit to NZ first before being selected like Reid, Smith and McGlinchy did.

Didn't he live here until he was 14, then went to Germany by which stage his parents had gone to the UK?

Assume he came from the UK prior to going to Glamour and WYNRS but it doesn't exactly say.

Victory need to clean out there dressing room i reckon more then 40% of there squad needs to get the arse.
Archie played bad had 3 good chances should of converted at least 1 and was offside half a dozen times

Rojas is just sh*t

El Zorro is El Slow the guy can't run

Grant.B done nothing useful as usual

Kewell tried his best put in good balls, showed flashes of class however missed a golden chance but at least the guy turned up
Fabio MOTM if you ask me the guy should be a LW

Off 442 forum, I know its arse but still had a lol when I read the Rojas bit!

Thinking ahead, how are the RBs in the ASB Prem? Are there any who could step up to the A-league or promising youths who could come through with some nurturing development?
I'm really just wondering if we have a hope of finding a non-foreign RB of quality for the future. It seems like there's a few attacking minding players around who might be worth a look in but you don't hear of defenders as much.
I think it would really strengthen the team to have Manny back at CDM, both Manny and Ricki seem to want him there, but if the only suitable RB replacements are foreign and the import quota being reduced that could make that option difficult.

Going around the league off the top of my head, the only real one is Aaron Scott but he is injured and I think if he was going to get picked up, he probably would have done so by now. He would be 27 I think if you go on being 23 at the last Olympics so would be almost in his prime. He is a new Dad too (not that is football relevant)

Its probably the same old story that if you want to crack on, move to Wellington, play for the TW's, take a rubbish job that will allow you to turn up off your own back and train with the Phoenix everyday so Ricki can see how you are in that environment and go from there. I only say that cause there are a few hacks in the Premiership so really I think you have to put yourself under Ricki's nose.

If you are chasing a profootball dream, you've really got to go after it rather than let it come to you.

Yeah is that guy really in Nigeria or can you choose your location on the forums?
Also Bollux, guess we'll have to try hunt around in aussie then.
And with regards to the now dead discussion on Bojic, I guess you'd take him on this seasons form but year or two ago I was wondering how he got playing time. Was a hack of the likes of Burns from a lot what I remember.

Daily Record in Scotland says CCM are looking at Hearts' John Sutton. Would be a decent signing IMO? Big striker and brother of Chris Sutton. Plays in a similar style.

So why would you start a RB at LB? You do remember that Lochhead is a LB right? Next you'll want Warner upfront...

If you can play RB you can play LB , Blockhead's left foot is as good as a chocolate tea pot anyway, I thought Bojic has previously played LB too? Manny could play CM too and be easily one of the best in the league

Is this a f**king piss take? So Vince Lia, Jeremy Christie, Troy Hearfield and Ben SigmUnd can play LB because they have all played RB for the Phoenix? Get your hand off it man. Next you'll be telling us Chad Coombes can play LB because he played RB for the AW's

I didn't say we should sign him. I said he would be the best RB in the league and has got AW credentials to at least back up he has some talent. Like I said, again, if he was going to be in the team, he most likely be there by now.

Just read an article on 442, and it said that Michael Thwaite is off contract at the end of the season. Would he be a defender we would look at?

I've always rated him in the GC defense, he seems to always give his all, and doesn't mind pushing forward.

Be good as cover, as im sure he'd fit in as a defensive mid as well.

I think he would be a very good signing. Siggy is obviously doing well at the moment but we very thin in this area if he or the capt goes down. A bit of competition would not hurt and as you say he can play in midfield as well. At a stretch he may even play left back ;)

It's an interesting one. Do we have 3 decent centerbacks, or focus on a solid back four with just an average replacement? With Griffiths looking on the outer, I'd say we'll be in search for another CB anyway.

Given the demand for Aussie centre backs in asia, I think he could end up there. He does want to stay in the Gold Coast, just Palmer has that stupid 1 year contract policy.

I'm not so sure, Good CBs are always in demand and I wouldn't expect anyone like CornThwaite to want sit on the bench or in reserve for Siggy or Dura.
Is there even a team in the league with a quality CB replacement? I think most teams are equally vunerable to injuries to defense.

I realise he'd probably want to stay there, but hey, everyone has a price, and who wouldn't want to be asked to play for this year Champs (too soon?)

I think if Ricki could secure 3 good CB's, he'd want to play with 3 at the back.

However if he did, i'd much rather see a 3-5-2 than 3-4-3. We look to end up a bit like a 3-5-2 on attack a the moment anyway.

We were lucky with McKain because he could do a passable job as a DM but the CB pairing with him and Dura we were a lock. We had 3 last year with North as well (granted he did not show his best form) I don't think any other teams have quality CB's sitting on the bench and I think if you were a player that was going to come here, you'd want to back yourself to be better than SigmUnd, cause Dura isn't going anywhere and while SigmUnd has tenacity and effort, he is does not rate highly in the 'skill department' and its why is is not very good at RB.

This year they have both been a bit more disciplined so they have not missed much game time and Dura is the only one in danger of a suspension. I think its because of this improved discipline that we have no real need for a quality CB to be sitting on the bench. I think it would be better to have a player that can be developed into the role and will accept limited mins. If you put a player on the bench that is not accepting of a bench role, they have the potential to be a malcontent and ruin squad harmony. Its why I have respect for Paston for being a good club man and not rocking the boat.

Griffiths is kinda perfect for it because I don't think he would be classified as a 'quality CB' and appears to be happy to get what little game time he has, can fill a hole for a game, be developed and not cost a fortune. That said if he is leaving/let go, then I would make the 3rd CB position a development one.

In the UK the January transfer window closes 31 January - I assume the same end date applies to the A-League.

After hearing about Herbert's list of potential targets (I think Gareth mentioned it a few weeks ago) all has gone quiet on the acquisition front.

Acknowledging, and agreeing with, comments about not rushing in to any acquisitions and focusing more on next season than this season, in terms of building the squad, still can't help but be a little disappointed didly squat seems to be actually happening on the player acquisition front.

P.S. A Cazarine, van Dijk, Barisha or Smeltz would do very nicely thank you.
