2011 / 2012 season. I was meaning comparable to other teams, not within the nix squad.

Industrious at best now adays, a rotation / squad player worthy of a two year contract.

I would like to re-sign Leo, but it wouldn't be as a higher earner. That seems to be what the Club is offering, hence Leo getting interest from the Jets.

If he leaves, not sure who we replace him with.

Someone whom can cross the ball consistantly well?? I like Leo, nice guy too, but sadly by his own standards and by being played out of position, last season sucked. He did look better at the end of the season but his crossing still sucked for the most part.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I can't think of an Aussie or Kiwi available. Fenton probably isn't ready to be a starter. It was pointed out we performed better once the kids were benched and more experienced players were starting.

I put that down to Ricki leaving more than anything and Husegyms coming in.

Better structure and balance all round.

Leo has re-signed for another year with the option of another one. good stuff

Absolutely RR

Do we need another right back now that Manny has confirmed he wants to play there (podcast) and we have Leo as decent injury cover?

He did not exactly set the pitch on fire last time around - with all respect, what makes you think he'd be the man we need?

No problems with Leo re-signing. Solid squad player, can cover RB as well. But at 31 his days as a speedy winger are numbered. Would be nice to sign a Hershi type player to tear up and down down the wing.....won't happen until we can clear some import slots. In fact the Nix 2013/14 team is not going to look a hell of a lot different from the team which finished this year, except with King Carlos and maybe another import.

Ah, of course. Ahmad as opposed to Tarek.
On the other hand, would it useful for our midfield to consider Joey Gibbs?

He is no Mooy, but not as bad as some of our other potential midfield options.

I like the idea of going young and kiwi, but how do we even know if he is any good? There are so many posters on here going on about him, but has anyone actually seen him play?  He's had ONE SUB game for Perth

Pretty sure Gibbs is a lead the line type stiker - would like to have a look - thought he looked good from what I saw and outside of Brockie and Steyn we don't have out n out strikers.

Gibbs played up front for WSW when Dino wasn't picked. They played a different style with him. I was surprised to see him released, at the start of the season they looked better with him than Dino.

I don't understand all this talk of strikers when we need midfielders. It really does baffle me.

I think the talk is driven by who's "available" rather than who we necessarily need.

Yeah, that was my take on the situation - we may need midfielders, but Gibbs is now free to go and he's not the worst one around - do we have a decent cover for Ifill when his legs pack up again? Or for Brockie when he gets demotivated and lazy again?

Because maybe someone other than Brockie needs to score goal this season. Nothing wrong with another striker. CM/DM a priority yes

A further developed Fenton, Huysegems believeing, Carlos delivering, Ifill confident, Benji as back-up.  Goal-scoring EASY.

Still liked Gibbs! We can play 3 up front if we have to...Gibbs, Huysegems, Brockie in front of Carlos, Leo, and Louis...Gibbs would be worth a punt I reckon, looked quite good, and when he came in for Kresinger kick started the WSW season goal-scoring wise...

You forgot about Boyd popping his cherry (in front of goal, although if he hasn't done the other yet it might help also) and becoming a MAN.

Yeah.  Remembered that as I hit send but couldn't be arsed dealing with it.

surely you're taking the mouse with that as a midfield trio in a 4-3-3?

This is why I really don't rate your football knowledge.

Yeah I mean lets not the fact that we already have Stein, Boyd, Fenton, Totori, Brockie, Ifill and Hernandez on our books (along with a new coach and tactics) get in the way of the fact that we need another striker when we can't even rub two genuine midfielders together to give us any bite in the middle of the pitch (which is a glaring weakness)

hmmm....
I have to back up my good mate tripvincent, here. Brockie had a good season scoring goals but what if he doesn't fire up next season ? What if he gets injured in the second game and is out for 2 months ?
Who you gonna call ??? Totori ?
We need another striker.

Lets not call up Ifill or Stein, or Carlos, or Fenton or Boyd or (gulp) Totori or perhaps use Leo up front like he was a couple of seasons ago. Lets not look at what a new coach might bring along with his tactics. Lets just go get another striker and have a team full of them. My god, why didn't Ricki or Greenie think of that .......   :os

Next we will have a team full of Vinnie Lia's.

I'd only take another striker if they cam with a similar pedigree to Ifil or Hysegums, otherwise stick with what we have. I would like to think we are shopping around ang getting a list of names of midfielders currently playing overseas in League 1 / Championship or similar who are currently sitting on the bench or out of favour that may be interested in a fresh challenge. Get the names together, hand them to the new coach when he arrives and hope that with this and his own ideas we can build a midfield capable of competing. I honestly think compared to every other team in the comp we are competative in goal, defence and attack with our players. We are just glaringly weak in the midfield. This is probably a reflection of herbert not knowing what a one two is... let alone the meaning of possession football.
