I think Brown does a great job for both club and country! He works his bollocks of defensivly. One stat that might be interesting would be the amount of running he does in a match. I think you should do stats on Lochhead, i would say he gives the ball away more regularly, and aslo gets caught ball watching. He is lucky no one else has a left foot (club and country)

Funny you should say that, upon watching replay of AWs game I was a bit surprised at how often TB was guilty of ball watching, a bit more often that I would like from a centre/def mid.

I'm not sure why you lot see m to like bagging brown so much? seriously he's been one of the nix's best players this season. He's scoring goals - admittedly if he'd been a bit more sure he'd have scored more. but as a defensive midfielder he provides the mongrel we need plus he contributes on attack, what more can you ask.

I think people are asking that Tim Brown be Steven Gerrard.  And they are rightly offended that he does not fulfill their very reasonable request while still playing for an A-League squad player's salary.  Frankly, it's a disgrace.  Who does Brown think he is?

Or perhaps, it could be said that a lot of people defend him simply because they seem to feel that a defensive midfielder is automatically immune from any constructive criticism.

how could you be so wrong, I'm happy to critique, criticise any player that makes a mistake on the day - I personally think your attacks on Brown are misguided by some silly notion that he should be lighting the park up every game! Simple fact - Brown is a solid midfielder who works his arse off all game - occasionally he is caught out like all players are, but 90% of the time he is easily in our top 5 players on the night.

No.  They defend him because they are not as brilliant as you are, and thus gravitate to a fellow mediocrity.

Excuse me, but I don't really think "my attacks"(?!?)  on Brown are anything of the sort. Simply trying to critique his contribution to the team.

Once again, I think the most fascinating aspect of this whole thread is how opinions can differ so much on a single player, it truly is one of the greatest things about football (as opposed to American sports, or Cricket, or Golf, etc, which are so heavily stats-based; there still aren't really any particularly accurate and informative football stats-trackers).

I used to have massive arguments with a couple of Chelsea fans a couple of years back, because I thought that Claude Makelele, in his last two seasons with the club, was atrocious. And that you could have put any chap with two legs there to do exactly the same job. Of course, these fans didn't quite agree.

[quote=Stripes]No.  They defend him because they are not as brilliant as you are, and thus gravitate to a fellow mediocrity.

You could quite possibly have hit the nail right on the head! Of course, we use the term "brilliant" in an extremely general, all-encompassing manner.

On-topic - I thought Brown was decent against the Jets - fairly solid, didn't get forward at all but that was obviously to be expected with Diego alongside him, playing away from home, and an early lead. I much prefer Brown in the defensive role rather than playing the attacking mid role.

I like Tim, sure he goes missing from time to time, Route 1 football seems to eliminate the midefield. He's got an awesome attitude, afraid of no one and is a great engine room worker for the Nix. having met him a few times now and I think his whole attitude towards the nix and the AW's is 100 %.

The Timinator does the tasks asked of him well. The point made that some expect him to be Steven Gerrard is spot on, he isn't and it's about time some people got a realistic grip on the players involved in the A League. it is NOT the EPL.

No, its just your specific criticisms arent fair on him as  a defensive midfielder. For the role he is supposed to do,he does it damn well. Im not going to go on as ive said it all before.

So YOU don't think that passing efficacy & accuracy, and work off the ball on offence in providing an option to teammates, are valid criticisms of a defensive midfielders role?

My comment was a rather tongue in cheek comment on the line of defence that is taken in defending TB.

P.S. anyone that is accusing me of being a "Brown Hater" hasn't been reading my posts very carefully.  I have plenty of Brown friends.

[QUOTE=Tegal]
out of anyone in the squad hes the most perfect for it to play alongside Lia.

i think this (older) comment is interesting, not because it is true, or untrue, but because HOW true it is depends entirely on tactics and team intentions.

I.e. it is obviously no coincidence that most of the Nix's best defensive performances have been with Lia & Brown together in midfield, as opposed to having an attacking central mid with a license to not have to defend - but also no coincidence that we have often struggled to consistently gel offensively with this same pairing. It's all about finding an appropriate balance I guess.

never claimed to be an expert. I like the way tim plays, as I've said I'll criticise him and any other player that makes a mistake, but from what I've seen over the last three seasons i personally think some of the negative comments are basically misguided.

Really.

I do.

Honest.

There's no chance I'm being sarcastic this time.

Or in any of my other posts in this thread.

Back from the dead...

seriously, what is it with TB? Does so well to get into handy position, but holy heck you could pick any golden oldie player with a pair of gold shorts and they'd be able to finish a half decent chance better than browny.

such a shame his technique lets him down so woefully.

he has scored 5 times this season sawu from exactly the same position. I don't see lia or daniel or bertos getting into the score book that often? Sure Brown has missed some sitters this season, if he'd scored even half of the ones he's missed he'd be the top scorer for the club right now. Be happy he's creating the chances, at the moment hes one of the few in the midfield is doing so.

And don't think he didn't know it, he looked absolutely gutted at the final whistle.

He does outstandingly well to get in the right spot, just seems to try to do to much on the angle and power and ends up duffing it, in saying that he has scored plenty of the same this season and i'm loving his work to get in the right areas.

Just one of those three please Tim...seriously.
