Was there seriously just 20 posts arguing about the possibility of watching at least 5 A league games in a week...? *facepalm*

Tim Brown's stats from Sat night:-

Mins played 88
Passes Completed = 9
Passes Incompleted = 8
Passes Received = 4
Tackles = 10
Missed Tackles = 10
Freekicks Conceded = 3
Freekicks won = 1

Watch a replay of Sat night's game, for 90% of the time he is missing, doesn't come short for the ball at the back, hides when we have possession or makes a half hearted attempt to receive the ball and chases shadows. Well out of his depth in midfield and as the stats show gives the ball away as much as he keeps it and misses as many tackles as he makes. Anyone that thinks he "does a job" is obviously happy with mediocrity.

interesting and with quite a bit more data it looks like you could put a challenging argument together - some buts though

you're data on his off the ball work will be largely non-existent due to tv perspective (and that is a big part of a cm role)

you don't have any data for the other players on that night  - what are you comparing his scores against

there is no indication to us that we would have scored the actions the same way - e.g. other 'scorers' might have viewed something that you've marked as a missed tackle as closing a player down

sites like Optus etc cover off most of these concerns and even they can't tell us all we need to know about a players performance

Ooo_iii, IF those stats are close to being accurate - and funnily enough, they (in particular number of completed & incomplete passes, & "passes received") are extremely close to what I would have predicted - then hopefully it will allow a lot of people to have a more objective and unemotional understanding of TB's game.

Although as tigers said, some stats are a little subjective (unavoidable though), and yes it would be more compelling to see other players stats from that game, and other stats for TB through phoenix season (there's a job for you! :P )

The point I'm trying to make is Tim Brown is like having an ugly missus - she'll make you dinner, clean your car and give you a blow job every night but at the end of the day she's still ugly.

So she'd do everything you'd expect from a wife then?

I'd prefer that to the 'beautiful, missus, great to look at, doesn't cook, doesn't clean, gives you a BJ once a year if you're lucky, but she's still great to look at' version

The one good thing about having an ugly missus is no one else wants to shag her which, for all you Tim Brown fans out there, probably means he will be a Phoenix player for a few more years yet.

Ian Holloway's classic "Bird in a taxi" story??

It's easy to use stats to move the argument your way. But what out other  issues such as work off the ball, dragging the opposition players out of position, closing down the space and options for the opposition to exploit??

The Timinator did this in midfield. he does it at the Phoenix games. Perhaps because he isn't standing out, that he might just be getting on and doing the job asked of him.

Goal.com claimed that he was maybe to energetic  perhaps. Trying to do to much. Which is strange  when he is being accused off doing too little and not standing out.

TBH im yet to see why he deserves the criticism. Also I don't overly rate him I just give credit to a hard working player.   shambles_Baby2009-11-20 11:55:35

Watching one player for 90 minutes in an attempt to gather stats to back up a less than glowing opinion of him is hardly obectively analysing a team performance though, is it?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Maybe that is all he has been asked to do but surely he can be proactive and do MORE than what he is asked and actually go looking for the ball when we have possession.

If you actually read what I said, you will answer your own question.

I'll say it again though. Focussing ALL your attention on ONE player for 90 minutes cannot, by definition, give you a valid analysis of a TEAM performance. It could provide a valid analysis of the performance of ONE player.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Spot on LG.

I've criticized Brown in the past.  He has played poorly for us in a few games and deserved his criticism, but he's been great for most of this season.  If we are to make a whole huge thread criticizing average performers there's a number of players that should go ahead of Brown.

i hadnt come into this thread, but now that i have i cant believe what im seeing.

Brown has been excellent for the most part this year, excellent. He has a great engine, never stops all day. And for a defensive mid he pops up in great goalscoring positions all the time - he's bagged more goals than what i've expected of him so far this season.

He's awesome and i love him.

Give him a break naysayers!

I think Brown does a great job for both club and country! He works his bollocks of defensivly. One stat that might be interesting would be the amount of running he does in a match. I think you should do stats on Lochhead, i would say he gives the ball away more regularly, and aslo gets caught ball watching. He is lucky no one else has a left foot (club and country)
