Is it true, then, that there is something about playing for the Nix that makes people suck?

Obviously Ifill and Greenacre rocked when playing for us. But I can't honestly think of anyone who has played their best football for us, since then.

If we agree that this is the case, then we can only hope that Rudan has a cure.

You could maybe make a case for Burns' first stint here, but yeah

Roly also played better in his first season here than anytime at WSW

Moss played best here

Muscat played best here

Powell did more here than at CCM

I think it’s fair to say a number of players didn’t play well under Kalesic

It would be very difficult playing under a fool like Kalesic.

It would be a pretty damn good case too, considering he won the Johnny Warren medal, got re-selected for the national team and earned a decent transfer while playing for us.

Also to add to Oska's list; Shane Smeltz, Albert Riera

The Nix, Roar, Victory, Jets, Perth and Sydney have 2 each. Adelaide has 1, and Brisbane's medals were won by the same guy.

De Jong started for Hakoah in the NSW NPL last night, so did he just come over during the week?

This article (https://www.a-league.com.au/news/pre-season-priority-area-your-hyundai-a-league-club-part-2) says we are starting pre-season on Monday 25th June, so maybe last week was just all the pre-season medical testing? Might explain why no pictures emerged of the players out training for us to look for new faces in.

de Jong didn't come over last week - I think he is there this week.

Scored for Hakoah in the Waratah Cup on Wednesday night, so probably not this week.

Smeltz played better for Gold Coast IMO, but certainly didn't suck for us.

Well at the time he came to the Nix, he played his best football so far in his career, so the Nix certainly didn't ruin him which I think was the original point being made.

Anyway, when are we signing some fudgeing players who aren't David Carney?

Always had a strong dislike towards Carney and was never sure why. He always seemed to be an asset for Sydney though.

I hope it's just banter that someone saw him in town, he's right on the tail end of his career and you would hope he'd be a senior locker room squaddie at best.

Permalink Permalink

I think Carney is a bit of a tool - but I also think he would add value to our team in terms of helping us to develop a harder edge, whilst offering a versatile option off the bench.

So long as he's not asking for too much, I'd sign him and learn to love  tolerate him as a NIX player.

I'd take Berisha, even though he's a cod. Carney on the hand is so stunningly cody that I'd want him to be bad even if he was at the nix

I think Carney would be good for us. Every manager needs his lieutenants and Carney would do this job well and he's still a decent player

Boy oh boy do we need a signing. Or 11.

I agree with this, especially because Rudan and him are close; he'd basically be the new Dura (even though the old Dura hasn't left yet). The difference is that Carney is a cod and Dura is not.

At least signing Carney would stop him from scoring against us.

Carney would have been a good signing 5 years ago, but now yeah you wouldn't want to offer him much of the cap.

WSW just announced Steven Lustica has departed, not sure if he's been attached with any clubs but he's only 27. Potentially a good fit for what will be a new phoenix midfield this season. Played well at Brisbane a few seasons ago before getting into trouble at Adelaide and hardly playing last 2 seasons for WSW.

If your Rudan, is he worth keeping an eye on, or focusing on more proven midfielders?

Once upon a time I thought Lustica might end up being a decent A-league midfielder. Unfortunately he has never fulfilled his potential. He might be an okay squad player at the right price, but in a way I would prefer Vinnie Lia!
