Would be a good fit at DM and would allow us to use an import spot up top.

Would have to change his name to Milliganski

So it's not going to happen but Milligan would really give us a shot at the top 4. A line-up and bench with depth like this would make us a genuine threat to all teams, and the link up play and engine work of Milligan is integral to that. He's a right shark cod, but he could be our shark cod. Like Nichols. Jeez we really would be a team people hate

Hes an absolute cod but he's a proven winner and at a league level a very very good player. Would take a miracle to get him here and we are probably his tenth choice for a league teams, but would be fantastic if we could somehow get him on a 1 year. Genuinely no limit to where we could finish if we got him

In the marketplace, looking for an affordable striker happy to join a club that's maxed out its credit card.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I think we'd be seeing Nicholls and/or Williams on the pitch and Singh taking over from Burns this season, so a "proper" centre forward would be useful. But rather than a big name, it may simply be a low-key backup to what we already have up front, unless Rudan has a name in mind and persuades WelNix to spend some real money on a success.

In other news the only other free agents left with A-League experience or quality (debatable) are David Carney, Bruce Djite, Jacob Poscoliero, Michael Thwaighte, Mitch Austin and Eli Babalj. Of these who is useful? only really Djite maybe, Poscoliero as a squaddy backup RB?

The attacking 4 (or 3, or 5, depending on how we set up) is probably too difficult to call at this point. I think the only real guaranteed starter is Krishna. Singh is young and isn't very physical; won't play every game this season and probably shouldn't. Burns is the kind of guy who can be the best on the pitch, or absolutely invisible - all about confidence and form for him, and when the chips are down for him it seems to really affect his game. Nichols and Williams are hard workers, remains to be seen whether they are more reliable than Burns and Singh. Either way, i don't think we will see a consistent first choice and second choice for the attack, I think it will be week by week fluid selections based on form and opposition. I agree though, I don't think we will see Nichols and Williams riding the pine week in week out, I just chose to put Burns and Singh as starters in the graphic. I think the difference in how good the players are between those four isn't really that much, which makes picking the team hard. great for depth though

I'm still pumped on this potential Troy Ruthven signing - hope he trials well.  I loved that reel going about.

Was there any more mayonnaise on this Jon Gaztanaga speccy?

See Troy most weeks at my work.  Absolute top bloke and would love to see him given a go.  Always rated him in the centre of the park and was spewing South never got him.

Of all the free agents I'd only take Babalj. He wouldn't come cheap but I've always liked him and think he could do a good job for us.

By all reports he’s a ripping bloke with his head switched on. He’s clearly one of the best players outside of the A-League playing in the 2nd tier, particularly as a midfielder or centre back. Is known as a dead ball specialist too. There’s a reason he’s always been on big money in the Victorian NPL, worth every cent.

Hoping the trial rumours are true because he would be a great addition to our squad. This might sound nuts but personally I think he’s a better player than Kopa.

Jordanamous is spot on too, his highlights reel is very impressive and lost importantly he looks consistent which is something the Nix have lacked over the past few seasons.

yep agree absolute ripping bloke.  Will be really happy for him if he signs i guess it will just depend how far he wants to take himself.  Obvs he works full time and gets paid a lot at altona magic so the question will be if he trials well how much the club will offer him and if it will be worth the less $ to have an attempt at a pro football career.   Example Milos Lujic who was jets at one stage were after years back but only wanted to pay him 50k.  whereas him being a school teacher plus playing npl was earning pretty much double.

I wonder if/when we will start to see trialists get signed. I would've thought we would have nailed down Tratt and at least another by now

Is there any word on how the trialists went on the Gold Coast camp and if they're still trialling?

Heard through I reliable source that the coaching staff weren't overly impressed by any of them.

Permalink Permalink

I heard through a reliable source one of them is due here in the next few weeks to continue trialling.

I hope we still sign Tratt even if his trial didn't go well. We know what he can do, and we've already passed on Gulley so there's not really any other options

Feels like we have about 2/3 of a squad currently, not pressing any panic buttons but it is starting to feel like we are either holding out for something big or we're going to be a bit lacking.  What we've currently got is bottom 2 or 3 for sure

It's probably the same guy I'm thinking about. My brother's dogs dog walker walks a dog who belongs to the trialists father. I heard they'll know within the next couple of months if a contract will be offered.

Not really sure what people expect them to do if they try and sign players and for whatever reason they just dont want to come here or those that have trialed they feel dont fit what they want.Dont think we are at the desperate stage yet but dont think they would want to drag it out to much longer

Thanks for posting that link.  I was curious to see that Denmark, a country of 4 million, had the highest number of players attending those camps in 2018:

Players taking part 2018 by union

Austria: 24    Malta: 24  Belgium: 16   Montenegro: 18   Bulgaria: 18 Netherlands: 16   Croatia: 18   Portugal: 25-30, Czech Republic: 22     Romania: 25     Denmark: 90     Serbia: 16   France: 39    Spain: 24   Hungary: 21    Switzerland: 16 , Italy: 65    Turkey: 25

Close... my partner’s brothers dog groomer who once tried on a Phoenix jersey at the local sports shop passed on the info.

She was on tinder to one of the Nix players while in Melbourne, they met at a Starbucks near the team hotel and he told her then to strike up a conversation.
