Still believed to be trialling as last heard are Tratt, Yoo (f), Mandi (f), Callen Elliot. There is Ben Waine from the academy who has been used in preseason and who knows what is happening with Smith, who was released from his contract to play local football with idea he would be re-signed but haven't heard anything since.

Got a bit excited when three of the first four posts on my Twitter feed were from the Nix. None of them signing announcements. As you were.

Still need a Number Nine. If  we choose Mandi - and  we need a DM too, is somebody like Djite in the picture?

Andre de Jong is with Eastern Suburbs, pretty much confirming what chopper posted last week

Still lke the theory that we will start the season with the minimum number of players with view to signing some quality additions in January.

We barely even have enough for a full bench though?

Will be even worse if we cop a bad start to the season, injury/suspension wise that is.

Back to the Herbert days?

Actually was nice knowing that we would actually get at least a point if we were playing at home, last few seasons we've been worse in Wellington then anywhere else in NZ or Aus.

And playing the Paul Ifill role? And the Timmy role? 

If we can have 3 or 4 players we're by and large positive about we'll win the league!

Iffy and Albert a couple in that category who came to mind. If Krishna has a good season, him too.

no main striker is a real worry.  Youve got Bulut Babalj and Djite all free agents right now, all proven scorers in the A league.  surely the club isnt dumb enough to not pursue.  imagine getting djite having him alongside burns.  would be like old adelaide days for them.

Bulut!? Didn't someone here a while ago bring up the fact that there's an unspoken 'no dickheads' policy at the Nix?

Found some form in Turkey last year but he'd be a ganble.

Very strange we haven’t announced Tratt yet. Has he signed just not announced? Who’s bankrolling this extended trial with us?

Only five Aussies in the squad and seven Kiwis (including Durante as a Kiwi, although he's both).

So at least the Nix are encouraging local talent (although it's probably a factor that not many decent Aussie players want to sign for the Nix).

Be interesting to see whether the remaining signings tip towards locals or Aussies. 

Hold on, since he's already played A-League, this must be some new use of the word "rookie" of which I was not aware

Smith the 3rd under-20?

The WP squad page has been updated, probably in the last week or so. There are now 17 players listed - the 16 they've announced, and Smith. (Still lots of errrors and omissions... like Cacace  listed as a 170cm midfielder).

So in the tidy-up, (from memory, adding Rufer, removing some academy players), they didn't remove Smith. Not sure what this means.

Tratt

Waiting until Tratt gets MAR status costs nothing and might be useful - so why not?

As I understand it, Tratt is the same boat as de Jong. That is, not wanted (for now, anyway).

Only that wpx say that mvfc were full strength

Pretty encouraging, following a close game v Sydney.

Good defence beats a good attack.

Going by last couple of pre-season games, it looks like with current players we're going to boss this league, whoever else we bring in is a bonus!

What's with getting awarded penalties every week?

great result... we are going to win the league... unless we get one injury and can't field a full bench.

I sense a growing and not entirely rational excitement.
