Hey everyone, when you post about this game, keep the forum rules in mind as we will probably be coming down hard on anyone who breaks them.

1/ A co-owner started meddling with the team's strategy via the media

2/ Ricki played ball and try to play the new strategy

3/ This failed

4/ A bunch of senior players decided to go back to the older style

So the question has to be, was there even a common objective or strategy heading into this match?

I am not excusing the performances and lack of effort put in tonight, but don't forget the context to this.

Gareth- go ahead and , then watch him lead the AWs to the quarter finals of the World Cup while your precious business investment turns to shit. The Phoenix was always built on a team culture, everyone used to say without a doubt that it was the strongest culture in the league. Tonight is what happens when you undermine that culture with your dickishness.

?

My point is that I am bemused that anyone can be bemused about the "sudden Herbert hating" after 4 defeats in a row, 1 win in 8 games, and a 7-1 defeat from a team 9th in the league.  And also to blame the owners for all of it.

no one could see the pic...

Oh - weird, I could?

Y'all do know Dirty-Joel is gonna score against us yes? We have a rare talent for resurrecting the dead - we've done it time and time again.

Debutants, 40 year olds, players who haven't scored in 80+ games...they seem to find new life when they play us.

Not saying we're going to lose, just that Mr Nut Grab will bag one.

Hope we win 2-1 though!

Ricki is God...

Its all the players fault.

We went back to 100% route 1 tonight. Played 3 CM's....longballed just about everything, got lots of crosses in...and got absolutely dicked. So if we lose trying to play more possession football and we get hammered when we play long ball then what is left.

Absolutely the darkest day for the club. I never predicted this drubbing but I thought that the way we have been defending that sooner or later we would be taken apart.

So what's the coaching staff been doing? why haven't they fixed the glaring problems at the back? The style you play is irrelevant if you can't defend. You could expect this if we had a bunch of niave kids there but we have a group of highly experianced pro's.

I think the blueprint how to get out of this mess is Sydney themselves....they have been a shambles most of the season....they got a 7 goal drubbing from CCM. What did they do?  They sacked the coach..got some new ideas and discipline. Strengthened the squad and they have hauled there season around.

IMO the first cracks in the Herbert crown started to appear during the Honiara fiasco.....time catches up with coaches...the game moves on and I think Herbert has lost the team. All this "total football" stuff is just a smokescreen....we have been poor since the first game.

This nightmare can't continue

Well after the appalling display last week Ricki made one change. Sadly I cant see much changing next week as well. We really don't have the depth to make to many changes.

There are a group of players in the squad who think they are immune to losing their spots and thus far that has been the case. We have won 1 game of the last 8 and these players are there week in and week out. None of them try and all of them are playing like garbage. Ricki is only encouraging these players to play worse and not give a damn. We need a new coach or Ricki needs to get tough.

I am so embarrassed and mad at our team I'm struggling to type this. There are so many things going wrong right now I'm not sure that we can expect it to be fixed anytime soon. It satrats with the owners making demands and changes mid season - even though Gareth claims the new style was preseason, then you look at the coaches and wonder what is going on there that allows these performances...then the players have got to front up and take some respoinsibility for their own game.

If ricki won't stand down, he needs to be sacked for the sake of the club. Thank him for his efforts and move him on. Have Greenie see out the season caretaking with Gould and focus the behind the scenes of the club on getting a new perm coach for the beginning of the off season. Use the remainder of the season to step back and reflect. Nothing to lose now as it's lost, so the club needs to cut its losses and move on for me.

Total football or not, we used to choke teams out by playing two mids just in front of a tight back four.

This has completely disappeared in the space of half a season.

Gates are open for all to wander through now.

Funnily enough, we still play that formation, and yet look what's happened?

After being 5 nil down at 26 minutes what coach worth his salt makes NO CHANGES until after the 60th minute. Was Ricki happy with how things were going? Why didn't Ifill start? Lia is such a waste of space I can't even go there and him and Smith in midfield is just a sick, cruel joke. . Over to you, Gareth...

Yeah sorry my point being, how has it disappeared? Players encouraged to get forward not tracking back? Laziness? Legs too slow now? Defenders charging out of the line for at times no reason? This is off the ball stuff so not much to do with possession that's gone.

Any other HAL coach would have been on their feet ranting, raving and trying to rev their team up. Can't understand how Ricki could just sit there like a puddin' for 90 minutes.

I do think they are quite lazy.  Once the ball is lost there is very little effort to get it back most of the time.

A thousand things going wrong at the moment but that ain't good enough. So frustrating! Where's the intensity? Heads went down pretty quick tonight. Big problems, so far beyond me to get it back from here.
On the plus side, I have next monday off so can get good and proper messy sunday arvo. Boom!

Our two current DMs appear to have no ability to hold and once beaten they definitely have no chance of catching up.  They are just giving it away.  That shot of Brockie doing the tracking back chasing a break with Lia jogging along in the distant background said it all for me.
I'd try Manny, Sanchez and Ifill in mid next week.  Ifill can live on the ball, has enough pace to track, play a great ball and is a threat around the box himself. Sanchez doesn't do a bad job holding and distributing.  Hopefully Manny can get back to his best in front of a back four.

Smith, Lia, Lochhead and Bertos (at times) are guilty of being 'joggers' week in week out I think.  Not good enough, not enough fight.
