Is he quick? What's his greatest attribute? All for more New Zealanders. It's a shame Jared Smith has had too many injuries now, had he not, could have been worth a trial. Still think we need to trial Chris James. Sounds like he played well against Sydney FC the other week. If we're going to have squad players who barely play they may as well be New Zealanders.

Chris James has played 1 game in about 3 years.

How about we give him 2 before calling him an A-League prospect.

I'm saying give him a trial so the club can see what he's like.

Agree with the trial for Chris james

let Ricki see if he still has the talent that saw him get like 20 All whites matches....

If hes good enough give him crowthers old contract (cant be much)

What, and play him in goal? Guess he can't be worse than Crowther.

we're so desperate for players we are pulling names out of The ASBP?

Surprised Clapham hasn't been mentioned..

I wish real life was like FM. Cause than we could get Sasa Papac and Kerlon.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

Ben Sigmund played in the ASB Prem before the Phoenix. And Manny was taken from the VPL. To presume that because someone is playing ASB Prem they aren't good enough for the A-league is a still nieve.

Its got to be an obvious wind up. How else would his name get chucked in there...

On the other hand, he did score 3 goals in 6 games for MAP. Sign him up...

Personally I'd rather win the league than sign up NZ players just because they are NZers.

This very much interests me. I doubt we could find much more info on him, but hope hes got a bit of pace. Still young, and seems possible?

urgh i hope not. Highlight of career playing in a league 2 side? seriously hope whatever ricki sees in him, if this turns out to be true, is a-league standard. but in saying this, the a-league needs to look at younger players, esp the nix, to boost its image of not a retirement home league in a pretty corner of the world

There are a couple of Ifill's friends out playing for Olympic at the Hilton-Petone (and I guess Central league).

They are probably staying at the Century City apartments and hanging around with the Phoenix boys.

Names? Pics?

I'm sick of this argument "I'd rather win the league than sign New Zealanders." For the sake of wasting spots on 'squad' players from overseas why not bring in a couple more young New Zealanders.

Using that sound logic, Marco would never have made it into the Phoenix, as he's not from Wellington.

I'd rather we win the league (would prefer to do it with a base of home-grown talent but would be happy with a team of Ifills, Durantes, Wards etc).

Either that or we play really attractive football but ship a cack load of goals in the process much like my other teams do.

They are not mutually exclusive. The Phoenix's biggest advantage over other clubs in the A-League is that kiwis don't count as imports. I just feel it is likely there are some young domestic players who could improve the squad and are not being used.

And losing his 2 goals would have DESTROYED THE CLUB.

What?  He's signed for someone else?!  THE SKY IS FALLING!!!1!!eleven!!!1

By saying that you're suggesting the name is Australia Phoenix. Who says the New Zealanders can't be from Wellington? If you look at our past squads every year there has been one or two squad members who don't even feature, so why can't they be young New Zealanders? Andy Bevin and Sean Lovemore. Only one Phoenix player made the current All Whites squad, I know there is injuries and what not but we should have heaps being the only NZ pro club.Luis Garcia2011-03-18 13:49:15

Slightly reasonable response.  You're still putting words in my mouth.

If a player isn't from Wellington, I don't care if he's from Perth or Picton.  He just needs to be good enough.  (If it wasn't for the cap on non-Antipodean players, you could extend that out to Plymouth and Porto Alegre.)

By the way, this isn't a parochial sentiment.  Settling young players is a difficult business - less so if they're living in their home town.

Mods - take control.

Clearly the poster has not considered this statement carefully.

Pluto has only 1/15 the gravitational pull of Earth.

Therefore a player from Pluto weighing only 10 kg there would weigh 150 kg when playing in the A-League and would make D-Mac look positively fast and skillful in comparison.

Pluto is not a planet. We've already had a thread about that.

The way Bin Hamman has been treating us playing over in the AFC it's almost as if we are from a different planet though.

Planet schmanet.

It is a large mass. It exerts a gravitational force.

You could put a tail on Pluto and call it a weasel. It would still have a gravitational force and players from there would still struggle in the A-League.
