does anyone know a website that has a database of players so we can look to see off contract euro based players?

Just curious really
https://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2011/01/19/2312686/2010-11-end-of-season-bosman-list-all-the-players-availableThis has a list of the better players in the top euro leagues that are available. Doubt we could attract these guys tho. 3 older Aussies there, Neill, Kewell, Chipperfield, I wonder if any of them will decide to come home.

New Zealand isn't home for an Aussie.

Neill would be the only one I would consider for us, but ego & wages would make it unlikely. Aussie clubs might be interested, the 'star power' they have might be able to justify the wages they have to pay for them.
Andriy Shevchenko???
Nuno Gomes

we would have to strike oil under Westpac I think.

Love it. When has Gold Coast ever signed a big name player? Jason Culina aside, because it's not like Shane Smeltz is a 'big name,' Gold Coast are just all talk. They were supposed to be the glamour club, not one with c-grade Brazilians and average Australians.

Ian Fyfe, Bas Van Den Brink, Ljubo Milicevic and soon to be Luke De Vere all going overseas. The league is in need for some new CB's and I have a feeling that Jade North will be a wanted man sooner or later.

I think your comments re the glamour club are true, but the c-grade Brazilians and average Australians make me wonder what that says about us. They are 10 points ahead of us.

Don't let logic ruin a good story.

Not wrong there. Doubt he will be here next season. At least with Sigmund and Durante we have an established pair; we need someone to back that pair up.

Add to that, Andy Todd might be leaving this month, talk of players like Leijer & Cornthwaite going overseas, and the chance Muscat might hang up his boots. We might see a few new centre backs around next season in the A-League.

3 years is far too much for, if he is on reasonable money, which we would expect.

In three years, Musa should be right up there fighting for his spot.

Think we could find someone else for cheaper.

Spend the money on an international RB who can play CB if needed??

Can't see him going to Norway, he hated the weather. Although Tromso IL are one of the top sides, so he may find more game-time in a weaker team.
Tokyo FC seems like the obvious choice.
Sydney FC could offer loads of money and have to find an Australian defender.

I don't think he will go to Tokyo, he failed in Korea so will never cut it in the j league

Sydney it will be

Auckland will rise once more

Tokyo FC are in J2 or whatever they call the second division over there. Still has overseas aspirations and is wanted by the club. Makes sense to go there.Luis Garcia2011-01-20 22:05:51

I'd be horrified if we offered him a 3 year contract on a marquee wage. He is terrible, get rid of him. I rate Siggy higher.

I would'nt say he is "terrible" but he did take a while to find his feet at the Nix. recently he has been very good.

I don't think we will see him again with us. Sounds like he wants to go back to Asia....and Sydney would be a drawcard as well.

Maybe Rickie has a CB who can play RB on his shopping list when he does his recruitment trip to the UK.....a good solid player with experiance in Campionship or Div1 in the UK should be a good asset for the Nix.

^^ this.
Imagine how worse he will be in three years too

Also, I'd hope the player we scout can primarily play RB but fill in at CB if needed, rather than the other way roundplaywithFire2011-01-21 10:45:26

North might and should get better as he settles in- it took Dura a while to reach his peak, and the team to settle with him, and now he's awesome. Don't think North is quite Dura class, but he's shown a lot more for us of late than when he started.

Yeah but I would say North is probably gonna have to be a right back longterm. And surely he will want to be playing CB so doubt he'll stay.

Also think we could find a wingback with a lot more promise who would be on similar wages but better.

Also on another note, are there any other aussies who we could approach worthy of the aus marquee spot?
Even if we nab another A-league teams player?

yeah well he aint getting much of a look in at Lazio is he?
Don't know if he'd want to leave Europe yet, and I reckon he's still good enough to be over there. Would be a real coup if we got him.

Wonder if Kennedy would consider coming back for the right dollars?
Doubt it, but would be the type of striker we could use

Cahill?

That is an indictment on the quality of Aus. football these days when former Sydney Olympic NSL player Emerton is a standout.

Thats pretty unfair.
On that basis one could say that former Christchurch United player Ryan Nelsen is a standout for the AW's.

We should let North go and replace him with Bobo Balde

It's true.

Ryan Nelsen is the All Whites standout and if he played for United he is a former player.  Not sure I see your point.

The other truth is that Emo isn't that great and if he's Australia's standout they've got serious issues.
