10/10. This is as good its going to get!Can we offer her an official title for creating chants or something along those lines, please??

Stealing other chants is as good as it's going to get? We may as well be Liverpool fans then.

Chants should be short, sweet (or not so) and should connect with everyone rather than the chant being too long and people losing interest in it.IMO. even if it is copied from some place else.

Just making a point that we've heard lots of talking before but no walking. (as of yet) I hope Ricki isn't pulling our legs and giving us false hope.

I hope i'm wrong and we are getting some superstar who will win us the league.

Bobo Balde would be nice.

I really liked Bran when I saw him play. I think he was very tidy, strong in the air and had a nice, accurate pass on him.
Obviously, that's not the big-name signing we are all waiting for, but I think he would make a better CB cover than Musa ever did. (my opinion)

So Rickie has poured cold water on the "big signing". Sounds like we were in the running but missed out to another club. I guess thats life in football recruiting.

Bran maybe the next best thing to Weetbix but I am not sure I would want a 19 yr old central defender learning the ropes with the club. CD is such and important role.....what if Siggy or Durante got injured? I would rather have some gnarly 30 yr old CD who has done his time and could step into the role without any worries. No place for kids back there.

Just as an aside I still think there is talent to be had from some of the lesser Leagues in Europe......its just a matter of connecting up. I am on a 9 month work posting in Europe and there are two things that have struck me football wise.

1, Credibility......before, working in Europe people would look at you vacantly when you said you were from NZ or mention sheep.....now everwhere you go people say "ah!!! New Zealand...you guys did really well at the WC didn't you"

2, The guys in the Dutch office are football crazy....mentioning Nix recruitment they said that with the economic crisis lots of lower Div 1 dutch clubs and especially Div 2 are sheading players. They say that there would be quite a few very good players would jump at the chance of playing pro football in the A-League. Especially older experianced defenders finishing their careers and talented young attackers who can't get a look in a country that is full of good players.

I guess Rickie and co are on to it but they would need to move quickly as many leagues start playing here next month

There's two former English professionals, both 31 years-old, playing in the Nelson first division. The lifestyle of living in New Zealand is a huge draw card. While they might not be A-League standard, they are in the divison below Mainland Premier League, which shows what level they are willing to play, just for the lifestyle! If you can come here to play in that league, surely bigger and better players would love the A-League.Luis Garcia2011-07-24 00:30:19

Imagine if we had Musa, Bran and also veteran defender and brawler LI Weifeng. The back line could be:

Musa, Li and Bran

Reminds me of the Charlton backline.

Young, Fish, Kosta, Fortune.

Three for me, and two for them.

Why does Ricki even make these comments about having signings lined up, he should just shut up until the signings are made rather than get the fans hopes up.

Or maybe he's just taking the lead from the owner who regularly spouts nonsense about $10million sponsorship deals, $100million loans etc etc to keep the fans quiet...

From what I have seen of both, yes.
The fact that I think this, doesn't mean that I am right.
One thing I will say - that I've seen Musa play against a much stronger sides than Bran, so that should be taken into account.

However, so far I prefer Bran. And in any case, it doesn't look like Musa wants (or is wanted?) to stick around - so not much point in debating this

I reckon either would be a good addition. Whatever happened to Rowe??

We do need cover at CB, we havn't got anyone when siggy gets suspended, maybe Muscat?

Assuming we are going to play 433 again this year, I see our depth as this:

Gk- Paston
RB- Downey, Muscat, Tsats
CB - Durante, Siggy, Muscat?
LB- Lochhead, Tsats, Muscat
CM- Lia, Brown, Muscat
Wings- Bertos, Pantelis, Ifill, Daniel
ST- Greenacre, Pavlovich, Ifill

Definitely need a few more signings for the Midfield as well. Think this creative midfielder and maybe even Chettleburgh would give us enough numbers.
Then I think we will definitely need a CB, so Musa or Bran.

Then that just leaves one more striker I guess, and we look relatively good all over the park.

We cant really sign a senior player as a CB if we are only looking at a squad of 20. And the callibre of the new signings of Striker and Playmaker will define our season in my opinion.

I really hope we dont play 433  we'll get murdered. I have to say that I am very disappointed with our recruiting AGAIN. Its been poor. We ave had months of turmoil over whether terry is going bust despite lots of reassurances that all is well at the phoenix. If we were playing the normal seaon at the same time as last year our squad would be hopelessly inadequate. I really thoiught that this year we would be able to aquire players that would maybe push the likes of Bertos and Brown to get the best out of them rather than the half hearted play that we currently get. Its certainly not looking good at present and I really hope that Ricki can pull something out of the bag but im not hopeful

Musa was the best centre half on the park verses the Phoenix the other day and he had a lot more coming at him then the young ausi.

One under 21 in a role like left back is acceptable. Two is stupid if it was a toss up between two players who are similar in ability

agree completely with that. But it depends on if Ricki does think that they are of similar ability. It sounds to me like Bran is seen as the better of the two- so the question is:

Do you choose the player is you know is not as good as the aussie, and you have seen enough of over the past year, just because he is kiwi?

I really don't understand how this "he's not a kiwi" card comes out whenever someone doesn't like a player. The Nix are suddenly transformed into New Zealand Football - or the All Whites!

If by an unprecedented stroke of luck we were to sign a great player from a top league in the world, say Marek Hamsik from Napoli, David Pizarro from AS Roma, Giovani dos Santos from Tottenham, would people complain that the likes of Brown etc would be relegated to the bench???
I don't think so!

the three signings are better than hearfield, diego and musa so far.

If our new international signings can be better than ward and Dmac,(and you would think that they should be), then we are in a pretty good place.

The only big loss is marco, who we cant replace, but can bring in young guys who will grow as he has.

A line up of the following is pretty fine with me:

                   Paston
Downey Sigmund Durante Lochhead
             Muscat   Brown
          Creative Midfielder
Ifill          Gun Striker      Pantelis

Remembering if we signed guys like flores and van dijk in those spots, i reckon our team is looking strong, and full of depthplaywithFire2011-07-24 23:16:13

Yeah thnk he and Lochhead could be crucial. Leo needs to get his crossing and corners a bit more consistent. Pantelis was taking some great ones a few weeks back.

The key is that creative midfielder and gun striker. With those two, you then can add to that Greenacre, Bertos, Nick the Greek and Lia for a nice little squad. I'm not conviced on what I have seen of Pantelis in pre-season, but it is pre-season and he has performed at other clubs (so had d-mac and Kwas so...) I think that those two spots need to be quality signings vs signings that are trumped up as having quality otherwise we are a redux of last year. The rest of the signings, while not immaterial, are not as crucial as those two you have listed.

Time will tell. It takes more than a couple of signings to make a team solid, and yes the season hasnt started but teams need time to gel.

Positive posts with logical reasoning behind them, really like the look of our squad when put this way. Kinda hoping Musa or Bran does a hammy in the first U20 games so that no one else shows an interest! It's obvious that there is some interest from players to come here, but that as soon as another club comes in we don't have the resources to compete.

Aside from that, we are doing well I think overall, the quality of our signings so far tick the boxes for me
