But he's a striker, I thought Terry Ricki said it was an attacking mid.

QUOTE]

therein lieth the problem..most of our strikers are in fact attacking midfileders so obvious slip of the tongue to make.

Sure in the interview i heard he mentioned a mid and a striker and that the stiker was nearly a done deal.

Considering greats like Gregory Duruz played in the top level in Switzerland the simple fact this mystery man has been playing in a top tier competition in continental Europe doesn't excite me too much.

Pretty sure many SPL players could come here and do quite a good job. Liam Miller this season I expect big things from, for example.

For most leagues in Europe, first division is the top division.

I got the impression Ricki meant the 2nd tier (don't know why, just did). Time will tell.

He's the kind of player I'm expecting.  Not sure many on here would remember him from the old Knights days though.

Yeah I emember him - he was solid but not spectacular - remember him getting sent off at NH Stadium for absolutely scything someone in half - Mori maybe? Black 5 gave him man of the match.

maybe because he has an out clause...

Could be someone who is at the end of their contract, but the club has an option to extend it. Similar to how we missed out on Joel Porter a few seasons ago.

My bet is on Andreas Lasnik

First thing i picked up on was "continental Europe" which ruled out England, Scotland, etc. And then "agent having brought other players to the A-League" and "players from the same league having done well over here"... Eredivisie. Some notable players of late are Van Djik, Worm, Zwaanswijk, Sibon,

Also the speculation around 'out clauses' for relegated sides - only one side was relegated from the Eredivisie last season and that was Willem II. Their top goal scorer is an attacking midfielder, and this was posted on their website last month (translated by Google)

"Juha Hakola and Andreas Lasnik have technical manager Marc van Hintum let us know using the clause in their contract that allows to leave William II. The pair has no new employer, but will not be present Monday when the Tricolores prepare for the new season to start. Both Hakola and Lasnik played a season for Willem II. The Finnish striker was, in part because of injury and illness to 17 games and 3 goals in Tilburg service. Andreas Lasnik played 34 games and scored 9 times."

He also only played once internationally - for Austria, in a friendly against England but was never selected again after that, so probably isnt too fussed about leaving Europe all together. The only thing is that hes 27, but turning 28 this year. Im putting that down to just a simple miscommunication however

The club and I have to fit together easily.

Maycon Joins Growing Heart Samba Brigade
Tuesday, 19 July 2011

Melbourne Heart FCs brigade of samba stars has expanded to three following the signing of Brazilian striker Maycon Carvalho Inez.

The 24-year-old has joined Heart on a one-year deal and becomes the Clubs fifth signing this off-season following the acquisition of fellow Brazilian Fred, David Williams, Mate Dugandzic and Curtis Good.

Head Coach John vant Schip says Maycon is capable of playing an important role for Heart during the upcoming Hyundai A-League season.

We are excited to have Maycon with us and he brings some great technical and striking qualities to the squad, he said.

Maycon is more of a traditional number 9 with a good penalty box sense, a very good work ethic and at 24 years of age, a lot of improvement ahead of him.

With the signings of Dugandzic and Williams, Maycon provides real depth and variety to our attack and another option in the front third.

Having featured for Nova Iguacu during the recently completed Rio de Janeiro State Championship, widely regarded as one of the strongest competitions in Brazil, Maycon arrives at Heart on the back of a strong season.

Scoring six times throughout the campaign, including against giants Vasco de Gama, Maycon helped guide his side to a mid-table finish behind the likes of Ronaldinhos Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo

Anyone looked at his website?

1.84m (not 6'8)

"I have been compared since the youth again and again with David Beckham. I personally think that this was not always an advantage for me. So I was accused from time to time that I am more interested in my looks than for football."

Also says in blog post a couple of days ago he would be happy to stay in Holland if offered...

Stealing other chants is as good as it's going to get? We may as well be Liverpool fans then.

Three for me, and two for them.

That's probably because a) it's a rumour, so it's not actually news yet, which leads to b) so no one outside of here would care.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure someone posted the article.

Well there you go then. And it'd be really nice if next time you join in a discussion (please do, I'm sick of being the only Kiwi) you could do it without insulting people for no particular reason.

I was in England a few days ago and spent a bit of time watching Sc**thorpe United (lrecently relegated from the championship) during their pre season friendly matches. Just to add, Sc**thorpe beat New Zealand 5-1 a few years ago.. they are a good side. Sc**thorpe United played Winterton town and to my surprise, this Winterton side matched Sc**thorpe and looked to have some very good talent. There are plenty of players in the lower leagues that just miss out for various reasons and never quite make it. I've always wondered... do the Phoenix have scouts in forgein countries? The English conference should be seriously looked at I reckon

Some English Conference players are probably on more than the Phoenix can pay. Seriously. That's not to say an offer shouldn't be made as some may want the lifestyle change etc too, like Ifill and Greenacre.

ok I just did some maths:

Distance from Buenos Aires to Wellington is 9980.63 Kilometers
Distance from Buenos Aires to Manchester is 11151.98 Kilometers

Therefore Wellington is closer to argentina than Manchester
Therefore Carlos Tevez would prefer the Nix over MCFC

City want 50mill for Tevez, we are getting 100mill soon
We have a new forwards coach who played for city

Obviously, Carlos Tevez will sign for nix in the next 48hours
