I think they will wait to see how his trial at Blackburn goes.

Nick Branch would be a great option for CB cover. Looks like a mature player with a bit of height as well.

I watched Branch all year for Waikato, a real standout. Would love him as a Phoenix back-up

Positive. Somebody who wants to play for the club!!!

not syure how old those quotes are- but again all the right sounds coming from RH. Now lets hope he can follow through with it all.

Dani Sanchez should be properly considered, I mean, he actually wants to play for us! I guess it depends on how we go signing the euro striker and midfielder. But if Bouzanis is signed as keeper, why not sign Sanchez as well as the other two experienced guys. If hes good enough obviously.

I'm glad you said 'They have to be good enough' because I'm sure the entire entire NZ u17 squad want to play for us, but that doesn't mean they should be signed up.

If I was one of those kids I'd have been picking up the phone to Ricki and saying "hey, can I come down and train during the school holidays."

But none of them did, and so everyone will moan that nobody cares about kiwi kids...

Bouzanis played another 1/2 match for Blackpool on Saturday against Sheffield Utd at Bramall Lane.

Blackpool travel to Hull on Friday night as the Championship season kicks off this weekend.

Doesn't sound good for us...

That might be an old note Coops.  He played for the Fury last season.

Seemed angry and not particularly flash.

since no one is talking about "actual" players...
..I was wondering what Leage One salaries are like compared to A-League?
I like Fallon - he's not my favourite player in the world but I think he would do well in the A-League.
Why would he rather languish in the lower UK leagues than playing top flight here?
Surely Ricky would call him for the NT even if he was playing for the Nix, it's not like he's got something to prove?

I mean, he's 29, has already been at a WC, he's not gonna make it to the EPL...so why isn't he coming?

how much have you seen of Andy Bevin exactly? Your description of him is quite far off the mark. I've seen you claim he is slow on here before, just wondering where you got that info from. Also he's not a 'poacher' type striker, more often than not he creates chances for himself and finishes them from unlikely positions. That's my observations of seeing him play over the past 18 months anyway.

Fuck this stupid game

De Vries is scoring quite a few in the VPL - a better standard than the kid from Brisbane and considering we seem to play a front three he could be a good acquisition the play either side of a target man - we just need a target man.

Would be all for Rory Fallon. He could be the face of the club, so much personality. Just need God to convince him..

yeah I read that. I was just trying to find out whether League One wages would be that much higher than A-League level cause otherwise it makes very little sense for him to stay out there

There's a few forum members on here who'd happily pray for that (God prompting Rory to move, not date raping him).

Thats not great about Bouzanis, means we have to find someone else. Had a dream that Mossy came back because GCU was rubbish.

Fallon should come to NZ, the kind of option we need - also has experience playing without wages

Reasons why Fallon would stay in the UK:

* he has been in the UK since he was about 15, so would probably consider it more of a home than NZ.
* He would be on somewhere around 3-4,000 per week (I guess?  Someone else might know a bit more) plus bonuses, etc.  That is about 150k p/a, or approximately NZ$300,000 with this mince exchange rate.  With win/draw bonuses (not sure if they get that in A League) that moves him to say NZ$400,000.  Would he get that in NZ?
* Style of football that is more suited to him as a player.
* He is still young enough to get the chance to be snapped up by a Championship side (and possibily go to 6-7,000 per week).
* Always a chance of a league cup/FA cup game at Old Trafford, Anfield, etc

Do you need anymore?

Actually a decent amount but it really struck home when he couldn't even beat Ben Sigmund in a foot race and Siggy is not a fast defender. If you watch most of Bevins goals, he does not create his own chances. I think you are living in a false reality.

It's funny I've been thinking about this tonight. I don't even rate Fallon *that much*
Just to reply to a couple of points..

to be honest out of all these points I think the dosh is the only reason why he should stay there. I think a few players are on NZ$400K in the A-League and thought we probably can't afford it, a player with WC experience like him would justify an investment of such magnitude.

At the end of the day he's 29, hardly a youngster. If he signs for a League One team he would have to do really well to get called up to the Championship.

The Nix playing style would be the perfect fit for him!! Paston rolls it to Hearfiled...long ball upfield.. x 100000000K times!!!
Surely no player choses his career path for the chance to play the odd game at Anfied or Wembley?

I probably sound like a broken record. It's just my opinion that moving away from the UK would actually be beneficial to him (and us of course if he came over here)

Hearfield is a Mariner so it'd have to be Paston rolls the ball to Downey ... Long Ball upfield x 100000000k times.

Also if had the optioon of playing A-League or League One I'd take League One every time. It still feels like proper football.

Just to argue some of points - you say that money is a legitimate factor to stay in the UK, and then state that it would be better for him to leave the UK - better in what way?

He is 29, but he played in the championship last season for Ipswich and there is no reason why that couldn't happen again (not for Ipswich, but a team that might not get relegated*).

I am not sure that the A-League would suit his elbows-out style more than the Championship/League 1.  Like the world cup I imagine that he would get pinged for loads of fouls as the more european style defenders in Aus go down clutching his face.

I still think that the most salient point I made was the fact that he is probably settled and very happy in the UK.  Just because he was born in NZ doesn't mean he would have any great desire to go and live there again.  I am sure there is plently of quotes from him saying that he would love to play in the A League for an NZ team, but that does not mean that they are true.
