Michael Owen has hung up his boots.

In the press they are saying he was not as loved as Fowler, because he was not a local boy. I think the Kop loved Owen I really do, they just hated it when he went for the money.

Fantastic player, amazing in his early days. Injuries and apathy killed his career.

Yep great player for us. Top scorer 7 consecutive seasons? Class! Never forget when he stole the FA cup from the arse in 2001! Maybe not scouse from birth but came through at youth level. YNWA.

Also...... watching presspass a few weeks back, Steve Nicol talking about marking Owen, good story.... Owen was a 16yo playing for the 'pool reserves I think, carved up Nicol so bad he retired after the game but then saw Owen doing it to all comers over the next year, came back and played another season. High quality so early!

Hmmm for what it's worth, it appears Suarez is gonna go in the off-season. Would be a massive loss, he has had a quality year!

Hard to know what to think about Suarez huh? Liverpool seem certain he will stay, he sways between saying he will stay and move. I reckon he will go, Juventus or bayern will have a whole heap of money no doubt. I hope we get some good money for him and try and fill with a similar quality striker. Will be missed though

Yeah cheers bro, I too like to shake the top rope furiously before games.

Do you remember when he fought the honkeytonk man in a mystery fight? think it was for  belt, intercontinental maybe? I think the fight took 25 seconds or something

I remember Stevie saying he thought he would go if we didn't get top 4 this season. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. If he does go, like you said it's all about getting a quality replacement.

Ha no don't think I saw that one, youtube time! You should definitely youtube his appearance on Arsenio Hall though. Quality!

What kind of fee would a Suarez sale get us do you reckon?

Permalink Permalink

Bought for 20 odd, I'd expect probably half that again so 30 and possibly more depending on competition. Rumours were floating when it was announced that Pep was Germany bound that he was a fan. If he goes, I selfishly hope he leaves the league.

Maybe what we bought Carroll for haha! We could ask Chelsea nicely for Torres back :)

Suarez needs to be careful here. Sure , I get that he wants CL footie and that will probably determine if/when he goes but currently he is head and shoulders the best player in his team; May not be true at another club. Is that important to him? Dunno.

When he was acting like a prat a season or 2 ago , he did receive tremendous suport from the club ( Kenny in particular) and fans. One would hope that that has some bearing on his decision. Of course , we all know that players have tremendous loyalty , don't we ? FWIW , I thnk he'll stay one more season , if CL not happening then off he goes. Mind you , if someone pitches up with an unbelievable offer ( 40-50M) than FSG may say thanks very much.

Hope you're right about one more season, but I think (complete speculation obviously) he's gone. Making the classic exit statements, praising the supporters etc. Time will tell!
Quite right about the need for caution though. A lot of quality players end up sitting down most of the time at super clubs.

I read an article quoting Cavani (Uruguayan striker) who said he would stay one more year. Hope if he does play next year, he keeps up the good form so if we do sell we make some good money!

Michael owen should never have left Liverpool. As soon as he moved his career deteriorated, Same for Fowler. There's a few players in this world whom are fantastic for their club but crap elsewhere - Carroll being a good example too. Stevie G, would he really have done the goods at Chelski a few years back? I don't think so. I know Owen is a Toffee, but at 'Pool, he excelled.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Agree. And even earlier , does anyone seriously think that Ian Rush to Juve was a success?

Always felt a bit sorry for Owen after he left. Could understand his reasons, but how many quality players end up at Real and find themselves in the same situation, watching not playing. Meanwhile the mighty Pool win the Champions League, brilliant.

Spot on with Stevie staying away from Chelsea too, great decision by him. Would've been the same problem England had over the last decade, trying to squash him and Lampard into the same team when they don't seem like they should play together.

Yeah stoked with the win. Had a bit of a here we go again feeling when Benteke scored but all good. Stevie's head clearance was as good as a goal, he's a champion. Other highlight was the pass for Henderson's goal. Class!

Captain fantastic alright!  Couthino's pass was quality.  Thank goodness we didn't end up getting siguardson as I don't think we would have made a move for him.

Heard on Radiosport that Liverpool have confirmed a pre season friendly with Melbourne Victory in Melbourne. I think they said July 24. Anyway on here going to go?

Yep , Jr and I will be there. he found out about this before me and has already asked if we can go.Just hanging out for tickets to be available- hopefully we can score some. Wouldn't miss this for the world.

Oh , really impressed with Coutinho so far. Great vision and passing ability.

Hendo might make a reasonable player - who knew??

Nice one Jazz. Once in a lifetime opportunity it would seem. I told the missus and she said I can go!! But I wear the pants and all that!!

So freaking stoked. Although likely to see the reserves during pre-season huh? maybe catch our new summer signings Tom Ince, some new Centre backs and dreaming of errikson?

You never know with no european competitions this off season. Still don't think we'll see a full strength first XI but I think there's a good chance of seeing quite a few of our top players. I'm definitely going!

Can Andy Carroll play against us tonight? From media reports it sounds like he could. Seems a bit strange to me

contrary to popular belief it's not against the rules for loanees to play against their parent club

But in most cases the parent club will write it into the agreement

There are some unusual cases out there - from memory I think morientes scored a brace against Real Madrid for Monaco to knock them out of the champs league in 03/04 - may have to fact check that though

edit: checked it, correct except he got a goal in each leg rather than a brace. Why is it that I can remember these pointless facts yet I leave things on top of the car and drive off

Liverpool did well to hold on for a 0-0

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight
