IF we do, surely it's a £100m sale given current prices?! He's only 25, current contract runs until end of 2022 and one of the best mids in the Prem?

I'll be gutted if we sell Coutinho. I suspect (hope?) there will be an agreement that he stays another year and then is allowed to leave next summer. Would love to keep him forever but it's hard to say no to Barca and staying another year seems the right compromise imo

Don't sell him. Barca are c*nts when it comes to transfers. The amount of tapping up they do is insane. If he really wants to go flick him to Madrid just to spite them. Unfortunately I realise it doesn't really work like this, but f*ck Barca.

Seriously f*ck Barca. Make them pay 200m like they would anyone else.

Offer them a Neymar swap? Even a Suarez swap would soften the blow.

Yea i reckon 100m easy given those factors, prices are nuts now

You guys have all the power on this one, owners will take flak if he goes cheap

Have heard yarns of a deal involving cash and Rakitic and other shark but hopefully everyone involved just stick to their guns and he's happy with that too. Find out soon I guess but will be pretty gutted if he goes.

Call me crazy but if I was building a team from a blank piece of paper I would take Coutinho before I took Neymar.

I know it's preseason and not to read too much into it and blah blah but get in! Good stuff against Bayern!

Mane's hold up then dink through to Moreno for the second goal...... phoar!

Drawn to play Hoffenheim in the CL qualifiers, should be interesting. They were unbeaten at home in the Bundesliga last season.

Lallana out for two months with an injury picked up in Germany.

Will we see Coutinho remain at the club?

Thats a hard one. Most of the he's gone stories are coming from Spain. Nothing that I've seen from "reputable sources" , yet.

What I will say that if he goes now , I'm done with this club. I've been a fan for over 40 years , my Hillsborough story is known. But If they sell Coutinho now, after Klopp coming out and  saying he isn't for sale, that tells me the owners have no ambition to win anything. Yes , I get the fact that it's a crap load of money. BUT you don't win championships by selling your best players. Yes , we have other competent midfielders but they are all a bit the same- especially with Lallana out , I see little creativity in the critical areas. And I absolutely don't trust the club to spend any fee they may get for Cout wisely. Yes , it's Barcelona. And IF Cout wants to go , negotiate with him to go next year , get another year out of him. They've buggered up another transfer window , but no surprise. I can live with that. But if they sell Coutinho now , they're telling me they don't give a shark about winning the EPL this year , or ever. LFC will be seen as a stepping stone club , not a destination club.

Prediction- if Cout goes , we won't get top 4 this year. And under the current owners , LFC will not ever win the EPL. I won't care- I won't be watching.

Yeah I'd be gutted too. Reports coming out yesterday made it sound like the deal was good as done but Liverpool holding firm today. They better bloody stay firm. To spend the entire summer trying and failing to pressure Southampton and Leipzig to release a player only to buckle the moment someone comes for one of ours would make us look like a complete laughing stock.

Sorry, but if Real or Madrid come in that hard for a player, there aren't many clubs with the financial clout to bat them off. If the player has had his head turned as well, then why keep him?

Fenway Sports Group just released a statement - "We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho. The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes." That sounds pretty definitive, I'm feeling a lot more reassured now!

What about this....

- FSG really do want to sell as its good business but don't want to face the wrath of the fans

- Strongly worded statement as above = reassured/happy fans

- Coutinho hands in transfer request and/or maybe will go on strike after taking advice by John Aldridge.

"Players and their agents hold all the power these days and if he says he won’t kick another ball for Southampton and demands a move, it will happen".....Ooops, my bad, wrong player ;-)

- Club "very reluctantly" agrees to sell as no point keeping an unhappy player = fans understand & accept it & FSG in the clear?

Its unlikely Coutinho is going to see out his contract (unless he receives some "gentle persuasion" from the chaps who had a friendly word with Gerrard...allegedly!) so, if an expensive asset wants out & may well under perform, cause club disharmony etc,  then unpalatable as it is in terms of player power, not honouring contracts etc is the "best" decision to get rid ?

I don't buy the idea that if they don't let him go now he'll throw his toys and be disruptive all season. He might not like it, but if he has a terrible season he won't be going anywhere next summer, not to Russia and definitely not to Barcelona. He might be a bit upset for the next few weeks but he'll get over it. I think FSG still have all the power.

except that the prick has now put in a transfer request, and allegedly has had a breakdown in relations with Klopp. I'm sure that's news to the club and to Klopp

Fudge him

Set a stupidly high price. Coutinho is signed till 2022. Liverpool can afford to bench him for a year just to prove a point.

Ripper of a freekick from the young fella this morning! Bit worrying again to concede late but a win away is good regardless.

Yeah stands us in good stead for leg 2, fingers crossed we don't bottle it from here. Would have taken a 2-1 win before kickoff for sure though.

Watched the extended highlights, plenty of chances for both teams. One of the most poorly taken pens I've seen for awhile too. Looked like he attempted a Panenka but didn't really chip it, coach killer!

There will definitely be goals in the home leg but they'll have to score at least twice so fingers crossed we can get the job done.

Not holding my breath but both are quite necessary I think. Also.... see where Moreno was when Lovren got nutsed then conceded the pen? Yeah about halfway.

You'll probably spunk 90 million on Jonjoe Kenny.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yes a clear case of waitingforatransferitis. Quite common in Europe at this time of year!

Job done this morning. Plenty of goals and giving up plenty of chances so pretty standard really!

Yeah that was an absolute gem. Sullied slightly by giving away a real soft one almost straight after.

Should be an interesting game on monday morning, I'm going out on a limb and predicting goals!
