And with that, the last remnants of the Hodgson era were swept aside... like tears in rain.

Not sure 'cause quoted on Goal.com but

Damian Comolli told French TV that the midfielder's move to Stamford Bridge was all but done at 2100 BST this evening.

Lot of people didn't want to see RM leave. But Dalglish did not fancy him. Didn't fit the system. Goes missing when gets tough. Good dealing

#CFC have given #LFC 62m in 2011, effectively paying for Suarez, Downing, Adam, Jose Enrique & Coates #cheersRoman

Sold a squad player for 13M, Everton sold their best player for 10.
Although the bitters have made 4.75M on Beckford - FML.

As far as I can tell, #LFC have cut 30m off their wage bill and earned about 25m in transfer fees this summer. Net spend.

And lest we forget, we have Stevie f**king Gerrard coming back.

Not so sure about that. I think Bellamy has a lot to offer. Great impact player off the bench.

Degen contract terminated??

I think Bellamy will turn out to be a great signing. I'd rather have him than Carroll that's for sure.

Bellamy played really well at City, and was probably their best player that season (before they got sent him to Cardiff). Although, he is 32 now and is a slight squad distraction.

The good news is that KD can probably help him with both his football and his golf!

Thinking more about Raul- good biz for a 28 year old player who would be squad only.More pissed off abouit Aqua still.

I'm gutted about losing Raul, esp to chelsea! Should have sold him to a team that is not a rival! He made such a difference when he came on against the arse! Been thinking about it all day today!

Bellamy I'm happy with. Agree with Linds he was citys best player a year ago. He always gets goals where ever he goes so welcome back! Bring back the golf swing for the fulham game against Risse!

I'm soo stoked with our owners. They have cleaned up the squad massively and have made some tough decisions, well done Americans!!

1 concern is our slight lack of silky attacking midfield players. We lost Aqua Raul and J Cole who have the ability to in that position. I know Stevie G can play there it does just seem that we could be slightly short there if someone gets injured.

Although it is real important to have squad unity huh? Pretty excited about where we are going this year.

Cant be mad at RM for wanting to leave. He wants to play football and he was stuck being 4/5th choice centre mid here.

You know we have done well in the transfer window when losing one of our best players from last season isnt a big deal.

p.s. fck international breaks

i know right. bloody annoying. though at least this is for actual qualifiers not stupid friendlies.

so i was reading on the chelsea website about how AVB is in Switzerland for the 13th UEFA elite coaches forum with the likes of sir alex, arsene, guardiola and a whole host of others. so im thinking to myself "yea thats about a whos who of managemt i guess". then i scroll down the list and see roy hodgson is there .  kind of lost credibility after that

Gerrard, Henderson, Suarez, Shelvey.. Even Bellamy could play there, I think. Not sure we're that short. Although it must be said, I think I would've liked to have kept one of Aquilani and Raul.

Picks on the 25 man squad?

Reina, Dhoni, Jones
Carra, Johnson, Coates, Enrique, Skrtl, Wilson, Kelly, Aurelio, Agger
Lucas, Adam, Henderson, Maxi, Gerrard, Downing, Spearing
Suarez, Carroll, Kuyt, Bellamy

U21
Flanno, Wisdom, Robinson
Sterling, Shelvey, Coady
Suso, Amoo, Eccelstone

Is that about right? Only 23 in that squad...

Chelsea rate ramires and (not so much) mikel thou, so it will be interesting to see where he plays, he's probaly most similar to lampard where mikel is dm and ramires is a cm?

Chelsea rate Liverpool retirees/cast offs, so let them have them and save the money for more young talent.
RM at Liverpool would've been the 4th pick for centre midfield at best.
Great work in the transfer dealings.

Pepe Reina says he could stay at Liverpool for another FIVE years.
Reina (below) was on Manchester Uniteds list of possible replacements for Edwin van der Sar as Fernando Torres departure from Anfield made him rethink his future.
But the Spanish keeper made his mind up to stay as the club flourishes under Kenny Dalglish and can now see himself completing a decade at the club.
He said: The intention is to continue here.
When I came here I never thought I would stay for seven years.
Now the plan is to make it 10 or 12. Everyone is different but I have been lucky that my wife is very happy here and my children as well.
Im a Scouser now. The affection of the people here is tremendous and I really appreciate it.

I LOVE PEPE!!!

International rubbish out the way, time for Stoke.

Always tough away, thoughts on the line up? All out attack or one to ease into? Injuries? Kelly, Johnson, Gerrard?

Reina, Robinson, Carra, Agger, Enrique, Henderson, Adam?, Lucas, Downing, Suarez, Carroll

Coates
Skrtl
Bellamy
Kuyt
Doni

What do we do if Adam is injured too?
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Don't worry raul can fill that hole perfectly! Oh wait......

Maybe Kenny will play another formation?

What's the feeling that Suarez and Carroll can / can't play together?
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Bugger. Not much to say really. Stoke defended pretty well after they took the lead. I was off the couch about to celebrate when the ball fell to Suarez. And what do we have to do to get a pen!

Pretty disappointing really. We had a tonne of chances but couldn't convert any of them. The ref's decisions while unlucky, should have been bonuses not something to rely on salvaging a point. Fair played to Stoke though, they did what they had to do to get points, can'treally complain about that.

Is it just me or were Luis and Charlie just trying a bit too hard? Johnson injured again?
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Kenny's post-match conference pretty much summed it up.

Terrible refereeing once again. If the Sunderland and Bolton games weren't bad enough, this probably topped it. Clear peno on Skrtel and clear, clear handball at the end. Played well enough to get a win, and on a different day would've. can't fault the players effort, particularly in the 2nd half. Stoke did well- worked hard, got bodies in the way after they'd taken the lead.

Also, Suarez is just ace. Going off at the (inept) linesman, sticking up for bellamy in the tunnel as they were walking off.

Also, Agger is the business. Love how he's always keen to stand up for his team mates. And on top of that, great player.

Sick of the sight of Carra. Of course understand his importance in terms of organising, and everything he has done for the club, but has cost us goals lately, he's slow and his hoofing drives me insane.

I see Joe Cole must have been taking lessons from Hazard! Hazard looks pretty handy!

Decisions to be had for the Lane?

Are Carra & Kuyt still first choice starters?

Skrtel at RB again or Robinson? (Lets assume Kelly still not fit and Johnson's been fed to the pigs)

Does Coates start?

Does Bellamy start?

I'm giving it a go...

Reina (c)
Skrtel Coates Agger Enrique
Henderson Lucas Adam
Downing Suarez Bellamy

Carroll
Kuyt
Carra
Maxi
Spearing
Doni

Why:
Would rather Skrtel than Robbo up against Bale.
Both Skrtel & Carra freak me out in the box. Skrtel always looking like he's going to give away a penalty and Carra becoming a small liability. Both together is heart attack time.
Coates is in form for both Nacional and Uruguay. Give the kid a go.

Bellamy has that fire in his belly and the thought of him and Downing either side of Suarez is a tad exciting for me.

We just need Hendo and Adam to chill a bit and play their natural game. I like both of them but there are times they try too hard.
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
I'd enjoy seeing that team, except with kuyt instead of bellamy or henderson (prob henderson if I had to decide).

However carra will be there im afraid despite you being quite right about the heart attacks. The thing that bothered me about the pen he gave away last week was that he got caught out of position. Usually his experience in that reading of the game makes up for his absolute lack of speed so if he starts slipping in that area then hes really stuffed.

But what prompted me to reply was the thought of stevie being back! Im sure he has said recently he was aiming to be back for spurs. If so he takes spearings place on the bench and comes on in the final 15 mins to ease himself back into it (after suarez and downing have both knocked in a couple of goals).
