Mainland Premier League (Part 1)
Yep, that was so sweet. Probably the best winning performance from the boys all season. Looking pretty good for next year. How on earth did Bays end up so far ahead in the league? Must be the luckiest team around.
What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

They did and had players who left the reserves game to play for the 1sts. The Tech Reserves drew 3-3 against league winners Bays after leading 2-1 and 3-2. Two 15 year old tech lads made their Reserves debut. Bays were lucky to get the draw in the end after the Tech keeper had a shot covered but fumbled to allow Bays tap in.

4. At the conclusion of any Mainland Football competition, where two or more teams are tied on points goal difference will be used to separate the teams. If still tied, the team with the most goals for shall be the winner. If still tied the League winner shall be shared.
Only thing I can find in the Mainland Rules, (which is referring to top of the table - but assume applies to all placings)is as follows:
4. At the conclusion of any Mainland Football competition, where two or more teams are tied on points goal difference will be used to separate the teams. If still tied, the team with the most goals for shall be the winner. If still tied the League winner shall be shared.
So following on from that it means they will both finish bottom and both be relegated!

Yes more interest in the bottom of the table now. The key question seems to be can ChCh United pick up up any more points in their final three games and as Ronaldoknow has stated the recent results would seem to point to this being unlikely.

Another good win for the girls and the club. Can anyone explain to me how the draw works from here? Sporting Pulse page for this is a nightmare?
The Tech default seems to have become a non-issue even though all clubs were notified of the draw change for the 23rd July on the 05th of July. Tech then notified Mainland of possible further changes that would have accommodated their request to defer the game from this date, with the support of Coastal. It looks as though Mainland have refused to accept further changes and forced Tech to accept the game on the 23rd. Tech have then defaulted but Mainland so far appear to have taken no further action. Farcical and symptomatic of the poor approach some people take to the women's game in the Mainland region.Ronaldoknow2011-07-31 18:35:42

Sets a precident for future defaults I guess...let the fun continue
If it is like the English Cup a draw will be made by Mainland for the semi-finals for the Reta Fitzpatrick Cup, the Sporting Pulse does not allow for 'open' cup draws so unsure why they keep using it. AllWhites822011-07-31 22:53:32

Twice now we have seen defaults at the highest level (Parklands v Western in the Englich Cup and Tech v Western in the WMPL). Can't remember it ever happening before and still no action from Mainland ....... dismal. Not a good look.

the case of a tie, goal difference and if still level, the higher number of goals scored, shall be the
deciding factors. Teams scores head to head during the MPFL season shall count, If still level the
team with the least Red cards accumulated in the current season will be the deciding factor, If
League winners are still level the League will be shared. If last placed teams are still level after the above criteria, one (1) game between the teams shall be played to decide who is relegated.

That is simply retarded....granted I think at south islands etc a chch east/west split would be logical as opposed to the current system, but a club team at these kind of events? hmmmm strange. Only logical reason I can think of is it an invitational competition.
EDIT: https://www.footballsouth.co.nz/index.php?id=44&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=618&tx_ttnews[backPid]=1&cHash=cc0ec1dcc4
looks like they were invited

Might be no biggie, just looks funny dunnit?
The trials were only however open to previous Canty Reps from last years trials. Why is it called a Japan Cup anyways?

Thats the bit that I'm none to impressed with, I know its only an invitational tournie but why not treat it as build up to SI Champs? Only opening it to last years reps seems to be a bit wrong and puts a glass ceiling in place. Its things like this that make some players/coaches/clubs wonder if its worth sending players to 'trials'.

Having trials only open to last year's teams goes against Mainland's own policy on player development - they all develop at different rates and ages etc. Who knows, probably done for convenience sake but with all those employees, surely they can get their A into G. Agree, not a good look.
Any point in starting a Mainland Juniors thread or are 'Premier League' viewers happy to read about the really important stuff (like trials for 12 year olds - don't take that the wrong way) - on this thread?

I'm not from Ashburton, but this piece in the Guardian explains the absence of Japanese teams this year due to Japanese earthquakes and tsunami (the disaster, not the U-19 tournament):
https://www.ashburtonguardian.co.nz/news/sports-news/4646-tourney-goes-on-despite-japans-no-show.html
and this item from Mid Canterbury football:
https://www.midcanterburyfootball.co.nz/index.php?id=279
[QUOTE]...the Japan/New Zealand tournament in Ashburton which attracts three teams from Japan and thirteen teams from around the South Island. Every second year the Mid Canterbury team travels to Japan to play.
This thread has gone on all sorts of directions in the past I don't mind a CHCH thread as we get to see a whole slice of football that we may not know about.
Now, about that Masters Div 4 league...
I let my guitar speak for me
Where we have another Coastal team of champions lying in wait haha!
What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?
Seriously, what is the point of Masters 3, 4 and +45? 35 teams of old crocks re-living past glories; instead of attending a Premier League game. If my maths is right +500 old farts could attend 4 MPL games each Saturday arvo - that would increase atmosphere, club coffers and surely lead to more informed forum debate.
So lads, are we prepared to give up our Masters teams to support our young guns?

Nice in theory but will never happen. They love the game and should be encouraged to continue with it (500 x whatever mainland charges them = big money if ya wanna look at it that way).
If we had the facilities in chch I'd like to see the schoolboys comp played friday nights under lights, a true premier competition with all the best players playing for their schools 1st XI (look at the press cup for rugby, its an awesome comp with huge support)
Saturday morning would be junior club competitions, saturday arvo senior comps div 2 down to masters and Sunday would be Div 1, PDL & MPL.
By having the above system everybody wins...schools get all their best players, clubs keep their kids in junior comps and the premier competitions in senior footy get the centre stage with all members of the club outside of those squads able to come down and support.
I do agree with the bit you say about needing to improve the atmosphere/crowd numbers at top flight footy in town
