I spoke to a sauce last week and they said that people are working on it but it didn't look like it would fall into place before the season end.  Once the attempt to get someone in quickly to prove themselves for the rest of the season fell through they had to go a little wider and have talked to alot more options.

With respect to this (and you most likely can't answer) are any of the names that your sauce mentioned to you in confidence mentioned in this thread? Are we as a fan group on the right speculation path.

I got the impression most of the names on here have been looked at and some spoken to by the club along with I suspect some we have not thought of.

It was generalisations though no actual names.

A lot of names have been kicked around in this forum and I'd have thought we'd identified most of the usual suspects. I really hope the club goes for someone from Australasia who understands the HAL and can work within the league's constraints (salary caps, etc).

I'm pretty sure he's not qualified, has very little experience as a head coach and has had a number of unprofessional 'interactions' in his time at Brisbane.

Man is a Phoenix hero but I've seen nothing to suggest he is an A-League head coach.

The new AWs coach read some of the posts on this forum to see what players fans thought he should be looking at for his first squad.
I wonder if Nix management ever browse this coaching speculation forum to see who we think might do a good job? They could do a lot worse than tap into some of the footballing knowledge on these pages. Or not! ;)

And now Dura has gone public to urge the club to hurry up and hire a head coach. And so say all of us.

If it's a choice between Roly returning here and Gombau leaving I'll take Roly.

Meanwhile, Fairfax Media understands former Western Sydney Wanderers assistant coach Hayden Foxe is among the leading candidates to be appointed the next head coach of Wellington Phoenix. Foxe is understood to be eager to return to coaching after leaving the Wanderers shortly after the appointment of Josep Gombau in November and has been sounded out to replace Darije Kalezic at Wellington. After an ill-fated season under the tenure of Bosnian-Swiss coach Kalezic, Phoenix are looking to appoint a local coach for next season.

Here's his playing history, but he really is a newbie coach. Does that set off alarm bells in anyone else?

No, because like the Scott Miller stuff last week it's just Aussie media and agents spruiking someone else. I'll worry when there is a list of names from a source I have faith in actually knowing anything.

They could not do any worse than look at these forums for footballing knowledge.

Roly has been surprisingly poor at WSW.

Not so surprising considering the entire team has been poor for two season though. I thought he'd do well at WSW.

Yeah me too considering he has more freedom of movement and gets fouled far less than when he was at the Nix.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

WSW will finish 7th, Roar 6th.

Roly's been playing just in front of the back 4. not his best position, and Gombau's been copping flak for it

Defensive midfielder and CB backup was what he saw signed for, which is probably why he always slowed down our attacks.

So, where is our new coach? With the season turning to custard, and the wooden spoon beckoning, we need next year's gaffer in place now. Anyone on here close to management who can give us an update.

Permalink Permalink

By not appointing a new coach, we have missed that chance of a new coach always winning their first game in charge type scenario.

I'm unashamedly pushing for Sherman, but who'd be on your short list?

One of the elite (can't remember who sorry) said that they had someone in mind and it fell through so they had to start from scratch. It takes time, they can't afford to make a mistake.
