Here's a scary stat. Remember our season 1 defense (yes all those painful memories come flooding back) - after 20 games they had only conceded only 1 more goal than this season's defense but we had scored 2 more goals.

We had a better GD, after 20 games, in season 1.
That truely is scarey. Somehow it seemed worse back then in season 1. It just goes to show how shiite we are defending this season.
TBH its hard to imagine us suddenly having an amazing watertight defense for the rest of the season. The attack is improving...it just means we have to score more than we concede.

Need the games tonight to go in our favour - Gold Coast to smash the planes and a win for the furries would make Georgie very happy.

Planes definitely need an ass-kicking tonight, come on GCU. *shudder* I feel dirty for saying that.

I hate to say this but I think the Phoenix season is now a 6th place dogfight.

Would have to agree Jason.

Saturday is now an absolute must win.

IF we beat the teams competing for 5th-6th place, then we could well make it.

Another problem is the way Melbourne Victory look to be getting their act together.

Our away form has been horrible and I don't fancy our chances of taking point(s) from Brisbane or Adelaide.

Just noticed also that last season's bottom three are all in the top four at the moment.  Funny old league.

We should just give up on this season, finish last, and then take it out next year.

Righto.
Here's a prediction, that's entirely without foundation, proof, statistical evidence, reference to any of the good reasoning from enlightened individuals above ^ ...or frankly ANY commonsense whatsoever....right out of the glass bloody overflowing school of thought, (no half measures ffs!!)
If you're going to make a prediction (as in, pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking) go down in a blaze....

Nix to scrape into 6th at the death, then win from there all the way through to grand final.GO YOU NIX!

Thank you.normal service will resume shortly. As you were.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

We still have the Jets twice at home and the Victory once at home - so, to an extent, our destiny is still in our own hands.

In terms of other games we have 3 games against the top 4 left to play, the Jets also have 3 and the Victory 4.

Big 3 games coming up for us - Jets, Fury and Victory.

Hard to see us making the top 6 if we don't get a win this Saturday - at home, with the Jets backing up from last night and with their suspensions and injuries if we don't win, frankly, we don't deserve to be in the top 6.

!00% right.....this is THE game for us.
It will be a dog fight for 6th. Us vs last years finalists Sydney and Victory.
I can't honestly see us picking up many points away so we have to win everything at home and then hope things go our way elsewhere.
Would be more confidant if we had the team that played Adelaide but you never know which Phoenix team will turnup on the day.

Nicely said, especially the last bit. If we don't beat the Jets we don't deserve 6th. Simple as that. I just wish Dura wasn't out.

Except for Sydney losing, all the other results have gone against us. Tonight is a huge game for us or we will be stuck in 8th with the gap widening.

Can't believe we are all hyped up to squeeze into 6th spot. We should be a top 4 side. Basically its been a crap season. It is possible we might make 6th but TBH it would not surprise me if we did'nt. We are too inconsistent, our defense is crap, we have a huge negative goal difference and we struggle to score.....apart from that we are quite good!!!!

Victory for me have the credentials to push into that top 4. Which means one spot between us, heart and Jets. All teams who have been completely inconsistent this year.

The worst thing for me is, the three under us arent far behind either..

Ok we must be 6th place now . . . goal difference has improved. Hope the GD wont bite us on our butts, not out of the woodworks yet. 9 games yet to go and 27 point still on offer.AllWhitebelievr2010-12-18 21:05:40

Destiny is still in our hands:

- Home matches still to play against Newcastle, Perth and North Queensland. We really want to win all three.

- Home match against Melbourne Victory. Need a result out of that one.

- Away match next up to North Queensland. Need to back-up our win tonight with something quality.

Gonna be interesting fight for these two spots.

I feel like victory are gonna be pushing high and might even break the top 4, so our Jan 5 clash with them is gonna be very big. Gotta get a huge crowd for it, and with free kids, we really wanna press for atleast 10k in my opinion

we never had the worst. Perth have had for quite a while. Hearts has only recently gone downhill.
