As I've said elsewhere, Totori has been a disappointment, but he might come right in his second season in the big boy's league.

When people stop saying that we should get rid of him in the off-season, we'll stop telling them that he has a contract.

There are other ways to get rid of someone Patrick.

You just have to know the right people.

No, Ljubo Milicevic. He has links to the underworld and he knows people and they tell him things.

So Smith is gone next year. And Paston, Sanchez.

Lochhead will take a pay cut. Same with Bertos.

Two import spots for next year then.......

If the wages that JD posted a while ago are roughly correct then Bertos probably doesn't deserve a cut. He has been good this year.

1. We signed Carlos.

Paston has done a good job this year (sans distribution) and I'm bit perplexed as why people think he should go. If he stayed, he is good enough to start in the A League so what's wrong with him as a back up to Moss if Moss holds his own? If Moss doesn't, there is a starting A League keeper on the bench. I'm not sure other sides could say that (without looking as rosters)

I would rather have Moss starting with a young kiwi on the bench tbh

And what's the young kiwi going to do? Better off getting game time elsewhere than waste a season on the bench. Besides if there was an injury, I'd prefer Paston over Basalaj

What I'm interested in is how ricki will treat all the all whites off contract bearing in mind this November is rather important to him. Lochead, Paston, Hogg, Bertos. If these players are not signed, where are they going to play or even train at a high level next season? Saying all that I think Paston and Bertos deserve another go.

No, no those were just completely made up - speculation only

Regarding Carlos Valderrama (from a topic a couple of posts ago) it is true that some attackers of his build were impossibly to dispossess in the box (or wherever). Mark Viduka (who I watched playing as a young striker in the old NSL) was exactly that kind of a player.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

You prefer to have Moss sat on the bench all season ?

Someone has to sit on the bench, mate.

And did I say 'Moss should sit on the bench' ?

If rumour is to be believed, Pasty may well be retiring at the end of this season anyone, thus putting an end to this ridiculous debate. I love them both.

Look, either Moss or Paston has to sit on the bench !
Pick one.
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ????????
So you want Paston to sit on the bench and Moss to start ?

Yes. That's very clearly what he said.

Can you stop filling up the forum with this pissing-contest drivel?

What I'm saying is, it would be better if Paston retired and a young guy was no.2 keeper playing mid week and training with the nix everyday.

Relax man

So... all that aside - any solid (or saucy liquid, esp HP) rumours of anyone else we may be bringing in?... besides Jose to replace Ricki of course.

If this is true....that however his contract was worded we effectively took him on for two years, then this is about the dumbest piece of recruitment that Ricki has ever done. And that is saying something because there have been some honkingly dumb recruitment over the years. To take someone out of amateur club football in Honiara and effectively give them a two year option and tie up an import slot for two years is mind numbingly stupid.
I had no problem with looking at Totori for one season.....to see if he could cut it at A-League level. But why tie the club to a two year deal? Of course Totori would take up his second year. The money he is on will make him a rich man back in the Solomons. End of his first season he is not even bench material.....as an import!!!!
So with Ifill, Huysegems, Hernandez, Totori we have only one import slot left assuming Smith and Sanchez get dumped. It leaves no margin for error in whoever gets picked up as the last import.

someone reckoned he might retire and go work in IT, whereas realistically it would be a fall back if his options dried up in football ie got offered no nix contract or a shite one.

Since Totori has an other year left on his contract nothing stops up from selling him to another club, right?

To free an import spot, we could easily sell him to a team in the Solomons/ASB Prem/South Pacific for a nominal fee, couldn't we?
He is probably on minimum wage at the Nix, so he could end up getting the same (if not more) money play...errr coaching an ASB Prem Junior team and playing for such team during the season.

This obviously if Ricky is keen to get rid of him - which I personally hope is true - and tells Benji he either goes or he join the Muppets in the Nix Lounge every week.

Ah no. ASB is an amateur league so they can't buy/pay/obtain a pro footballer on contract and Solomon Island football is bankrupt. The shenanigans at ONC cost them 50k in fines for crowd behaviour hence why they are looking to play here in NZ.

But we could pay him out of the contract and release him. Seems unlikely though given Welnix's commitment to austerity

we could but we have to absorb his wage into the cap

Stink. Maybe we could ask the FFA to pay for it?

You can get bet your asshole pointing downwards that the FFA will say 'if the owners are not prepared to splash the cash for players above the cap, why should we?'
