Sounds like he chose to go for AUS U-17, if he got a call up there surely would have had a look in here if he'd made himself available.
Griffiths hasn't represented anyone at age group according to wikipedia. Won't be a youth next season either.
Must have some potential if he's been picked out for age group level in both countries, he's kiwi, younger than Griffiths
Worth a youth spot?

Luke Rowe has to be picked up, at the very least one of the 8.

Fuck this stupid game

Chances of James Musa being in the eight?

I say we start suggesting who these guys will be. Obviously Louis Fenton (If he doesn't sign a youth player)

Slim to None. If he was considered an A-League prospect he!d still be at the Phoenix.

sounds like Andy Bevin isn't in the US college system anymore, so him and Fenton, Basalaj, Rowe... I don't know enough about the NZFC to say what youngsters have impressed but I recall a couple of guys from the U17s who looked decent but haven't joined a pro-club or US college yet: Stephen Carmichael, Jordan Vale, Luke Adams are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Anyone seen these guys playing recently? Thoughts?

Charmichael struggles to get a game for Auckland City so hard to tell.  Didn't Adams go to the UK?  Derby County maybe?

SOme of the young Waikato players.  Big, big wraps on Ryan Thomas (listen to Ramon from Auckland City sining his praises on In the Zone V3.0 when it goes up.

Yeah Derby County it is, just had a look on transfermarkt.
Was just thinking that  it might take a few years for this academy thing to get the top tier of our youth as the ones we would be targetting are often already overseas. If there is a clear pathway here then more might stay.

So in total then how many players are we looking for this off season? Moss is already chalked up, but we would still want another strkier, a fullback maybe, a creative mid, plus the 8 academy players - that's an entire starting 11 at least! Is Ricki doing all the scouting himself or is Greenacre also involved in his role as coach?

My son was surfing with Nick Ward in Perth after the game. Sounds like he could be off in that direction.

What about Mark Birighitti, he has no club now Jets have gone belly up. Possible third keeper, or #2 if Paston doesn't get a contract for next year (i think he'd make a good GK coach though, plus would be a handy backup as Gould was)

We're excited for your son going to Perf... but did Wardinho give any hints?

Inside word is he's a bit of a jock & not a fan of Wellington. Brockie coming in should see him definitely not be offered a contract.

He said he was too good for us and left then when he sloped back we re-signed him.  SHould never have done so.

The best (and only) thing he did for us this season was put in the pass for Tim Browns goal at Suncorp way back at the start of the season.

Ah yes this is true. But he did manage to recover a goal in which Pav royally butchered http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp7lwIo-Q_A&t=1m21sbrumbys2012-04-17 11:14:31

He at least one other one as well. We were in urgent need of additional players, he was in urgent need of a club. It was win-win a year ago. Happy for him to go, Leo, Brockie, Pantelis and Ifill + youth should be plenty of depth for wing positions.

I overheard him at Four Kings saying something pretty similar... Nick Ward I mean; I don't know OOE's son.

He made the roar game safe with a good finish and run from deep. He's ok, probably not as good at beating players as he thinks he is which leads to a lot of turnovers. But he is enthusiastic and less static than some of our other players. I don't really care whether he stays or goes.

Ward defends with all the intensity of a single sheet of 2-ply toilet paper fluttering in the wind.

And unless you are really bringing it on attack (let's say 5+ goals and 5+ assists) that's a major f**king problem.

Interesting article by Aloisi about players for West Sydney.

Any worth having a crack at for the 'Nix?

Craig Goodwin - LB?
Josh Brillante - young RB?
James Brown - Midfield?
Adam Taggart - Pacy striker?

Brillante - meh.
...and in a sad indictment I'm not sure Taggart is better than Pavs.

Brown, possible.

Hogg to old for under 21 spot

Is he good enough to take squad place ??

Both the same spot, and Hogg has done some pre-season with them and not got any love so I suspect Rowe more likely.

From http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/6760894/Herbert-weighs-who-will-get-the-Phoenix-chop

Nine of this season's 21-man squad are on the books for next season or beyond: Andrew Durante, Tony Lochhead, Manny Muscat, Ben SigmUnd, Lucas Pantelis, Leo Bertos, Jimmy Downey, Paul Ifill and Mirjan Pavlovic, while Glen Moss is joining the club on a three-year deal, and Tim Brown has retired.

Of the remaining 11 off-contract players, Dome said the Phoenix were in talks with Mark Paston, Vince Lia, Dani Sanchez, Alex Smith and Cameron Lindsay about extensions.

That leaves Daniel, Nick Ward, Niko Tsatallios, Brent Griffiths and Tony Warner in limbo as Dome and Herbert sit down over the next week or so to make some tough calls.

Chris Greenacre is a separate case and an interesting one at that. The veteran Englishman is also off contract but is a near-certainty to remain at the club in some capacity.

Warner not in Limbo.  Flights already booked, may have already gone back to the UK.

Did you strain a muscle jumping up with joy at that bit News?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Wish we could have signed the Nick Ward who played for Perth rather than the one who played since Perth.

ward will go, Tsatallios 50/50, Warner gone, Daniel 50/50 if he stays it's bound to be on a reduced wage. Griffiths may get to stay if he's under the youth banner.

Tatts back to Sydney, maybe the Unicorns?
Griffiths to China with his brother?
Daniel is a hard call, could be a handy squad member but will he take squad wages?

I have a feeling all the players "in limbo" will go. Daniel is the only one I am a bit unsure about.
