Don't you mean Terry's brother?

Anyway - I thought Maradona always paid his rates on time.
Actually, his time in Italy was blighted with tax problems IIRC

Ya think Maradona might show up, just to avoid being lynched by the media in Argentina? :)

Is the ticket price putting people off?  looks like around 200 per day being sold.
Permalink Permalink

$50 bucks is hardly a huge price to pay........it'll be more the fact that the non-footballing public aren't buying into the hype.....or lack thereof....

got my tickets emailed to me yesterday - finally......pax 608 and 609

I am attending. Along with 5 or 6 others, haven't got tickets yet though, so add some to the PAX.

The Everton games in Aussie are $20 so this is comparison is a huge rip off especially considering more people would probably want to go to an Everton game

i think the prices are a bit high myself.  i'm a season ticket holder along with my young daughter (so i would count myself as part of the footballing public, as opposed to the non-footballing public) and i'm afraid that a cold friday night in July doesn't excite us hugely, specially since at this stage we still don't know what team Boca will be sending.  But then the club will have their own economics and maybe they don't really need a huge crowd to make it pay.  if the weather looks mild they'll get a decent walkup i reckon.

between season tickets and merchandise, and all the other stuff those of us with families pay for (ballet lessons, swimming classes, football boots, blah blah), another fifty or so here and there has to be pretty justified.  i'm afraid when faced with these choices i'm put in mind of this article:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2005/sep/02/sport.blueprintforabetterfootball
the context is the english premiership; the principles are the same.

i realise that phoenix fans come from all sorts of backgrounds and have lots of different preferences; this is just the perspective of a Dad-and-kid supporter.  when there's points on the line we'll be there, cold friday nights and all.  pre-season at $50?  nah.  roll on august 13.

its more of a smaller group than the footballing public. only those with an interest in seeing boca would fork out 50. not many would pay 50 to see just the nix in a preseason game.

I can't afford $45 and none of my student mates can either. I reckon they have missed an opportunity to price the game cheaply then gain non regular fans and sign them up for season passes. Especially the student crowd.

Pre-season game? It has nothing to do with the A-League season.

A pre-season game is Brisbane Roar on Saturday, where you trial randoms to see if they fit with the team.

Boca Juniors is a gala game, an event. It's LA Galaxy, just a different time of year.

I would expect the Phoenix to be putting out their best squad to play Boca, regardless of who Boca have available.

Another huge event in Wellington, great to see, the game will go close to a full house,  Boca Juniors is a class side, the likes of which we don't often see in NZ, once a couple of other events are done and dusted this one will take centre stage , I'll give you the tip.

But if your student mates can't afford $45 how could they afford a season pass?

It must be dispiriting being a student with such tight financial circumstances.  I assume you all have only distant memories of the last time the taste of beer excited your taste buds?

I gave my son option of seeing Boca or two walkup regular season games..he chose Boca so off we go.  $90 is a lot tho and it will struggle to draw a crowd. Boro4eva2010-07-09 12:31:17

Didn't the LA game tickets cost more than the Bocca ones?

Bocca is a far better team as well

Yes the Galaxy game tickets were $80 odd from memory.  But you did get a free ticket to the Adelaide game the night before.  Sadly the majority of the new zealand sporting public knows who Beckham is, I don't think the same could be said about CABJ players.

I started writing a reply to this exactly the same. But then I got distracted and couldn't finish the job (oh dear!).

Fair enough if people don't want to come though, I was a student once too.

That's a tad misleading. They have put out some limited edition $20 tickets to try boost numbers.  Their most expensive tickets are $140.

As in,no points on the line. Same diff to people with no interest in Boca.

Still - most people are only paying $20. No such option for this game.

I will be going but can sympathise with people on the price- $50 to see boca trot around in an uncompetitive fixture is a lot, especially for people with less of an interest in football.  I dare say the thought of (if he travels) Martin Palermo dragging himself around the ring of fire is less appealing to non-footballers than seeing Beckham

well after they got beaten by Seattle Sounders 3-0, I'd say Phoenix have a good chance...
Riquelme is off contract and Palermo is close to being off contract too i think....

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.
