You think this all means ARod is gone?

You think this all means ARod is gone?

I think he will be staying, but as it stands he's not contracted for next season. It is interesting that they just announced some re-signings and he wasn't one of them though.

Has anyone heard any rumours one way or the other at all?

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

At a guess, given his salary and import status, he is someone the new manager wants to look at in person first.

This account seems to be fairly accurate with their transfer rumours currently. I would have liked Paartalu here at the Nix, there really isn't any other good Aussie options floating around so we will need to use a visa slot on a DM.

Burns seems to be froozen out by FC Tokyo. Lets get him back!

Apparently Merrick flew to China to try and convince the Jets owners to give him the money to make Burns marquee.

I think every team will inquire about his availability, a few teams with marquee slots available might chuck the cash his way.

imo it's most important to have a top class (i.e. top 5 players in the league-class) midfielder; whether that's an import or an Aussie/Kiwi.

A-Rod and Gui aren't at that level.

With Roly gone, we've lost that - I don't think spending that import spot on a RB will propel us to top 4.

TBH Roly was only at that level for about 4 or 5 games last season. But yes we need a quality midfielder if we can find one, if being the word.

He showed obvious frustration at the lack of talent around him + his family disruptions/earthquakes; can see why he didn't play well. Suspect he will have a terrific season at WSW.

I can see him spending half the season on their bench as Popovic constantly rotates his squad around.

with a little ambition from our new manager/his transfer team, we could do wonders. We don't need to rely on foreign A-League rejects or state leaguers, there are so many well known names from Europe we could go for that are free agents, wouldn't demand much and need playtime that could fill our positions. Abou Diaby and Alou Diarra come to mind

Not sure they would be willing to accept 2-300k NZD contracts when they could get so much more elsewhere.

Would say its rather unlikely Lia will be at the Nix next season, we would have re-signed him by now if that was the case. Really not sure another A-League club picks him up (unless its a dirt cheap contract), so he might have to go to South East Asia for a final payday.

Domey on the radio talking about Kosta says they are pretty close to signing a new keeper.

James Troisi anyone? Hard to actually get a good team from what we have if we only have one import spot left.

He wanted something like a million per season from the Victory, we are not gonna pay that.

1 news saying we were paying 750k a season for Kosta.

Those figures were bandied around before he signed which at the time would have made him worth more than the likes of Berisha. I always assumed they were wrong.

If that's the case we can get a bloody good foreign marquee player for that sort of dosh.

We should be able to replace him with a good foreigner, yes. Problem is he was a good NZ/Australian player, which we'll have to find from somewhere else to fill another position. Bill Tuiloma would allow us to fill a DM spot with a local.

Tuiloma would really be the perfect signing for this club right now. He even likes playing with WeeMac! :)

Having Tulioma would be absolutely amazing. But is there really a chance that we would be able to nab him?

Permalink Permalink

Don't see why not. He's on the outer at Marseille and has barely played and first team football. If he wants to kick on in his career, he needs gametime.

For sure, we've got to try. He's having a torrid time at club level, i reckon he'd jump at the opportunity to come here

Stefan Mauk? Looking to get out of NEC, apparantly

Permalink Permalink
almost 9 years ago · edited almost 9 years ago · History

Sad to see Rodriguez go, but I think this gives us a chance to bring in a more defensively sound midfielder which will give our midfield better balance. Assuming Kalezic's "Dutch Style" means 4-3-3, I think our best team right now looks something like:

Sail

Lowry .  Durante .  Rossi .  Doyle

Ridenton .        McGlinchey

Finkler

Krishna .  Watson .  Parkhouse

Bench: GK, Fox, McGarry, Singh, Rogerson

Clear priorities looking at that are a goalkeeper, a right back, a defensive midfielder, and a couple of forwards.

You know we belong together...
