I can't believe we are not playing Vukovic, and Sigmund seems to be rated higher than North. Id want them both, but look destined to leave. Can't imagine them wanting to stay.

Get rid of Diego, Toto and Bigmac.

I'd get rid of them too!! and probably add tim brown, troy hearfield as well

Great move from the players and the Nix to get 5 key players re-signed. And it proves that the rumblings that Pav was unhappy at the Nix were all hot air. Stoked about Greenie resigning too.

Hey Bullion, its better than paying the full $3k a week for him sitting in the lounge doing nothing.. I would rather pay $2k than $3k. From my point of view, with all new clubs, and we are new, we didnt have the base players, so we bought when players were avaialble.

Now we are established, we should now rebuild.

This is the way i see it..... if a player in the squad is not in Ricki's plans, then offload him. Pointless paying wages for no reason. We need another decent wide defender, a quality midfielder and a striker to play with Greenacre.

If the management dont buy into Ricki's plans, then obviously Ricki isnt the man for the job. I know there are contracts in place, but at least they are normally 1 or 2 year ones.

We are in a bit of a pickle at the moment, so now is the time to go fishing around for some quality.. if we can bring some in the Jan window, we could resurect our season.

Thats how i see it..

Now sign mini rufer for pavs old youth spot :P

Happy Greenie stayed, as with Pav, don't think the others would get a look elsewhere tbh.

Happy with these re-signings, and at the end of the season we can offload the crap (McAllistar, Toto, Diego, Ward).

Just rapt that Pav has re-signed, and the others. Great move to get all that done when there's money stuff goin on off the field, hardly uncommon at football clubs. Keep thinking back to halftime in the away game in Adelaide. Pav and Bertos ran riot for a while there. Forget about the capitulation and reasons why in the second half. I remember thinking there's no way this side won't make a run for a top place.
Ward has to be given another shot as a creative guy. A starting eleven with Pav and Ward will worry Newcastle so much more. Every side knows that last starting eleven can't operate offensively thru midfield. So they sit at least 3  players players centrally in front of their defense, and force OUR defensive trio to hit long and wide, knowing its bread and butter for their central defenders to handle our crosses from the edges - even if it is Ifill and Bertos hitting them in. Would be different with a Fallon in the box, but we have relative midgets.

Look back a page.

It's pretty much the whole team.

I don't think Pavlovic was ever unhappy at the club I just heard he did something naughty and fell behind Big Mac in the list. I've got a mate who knows him and he has got himself into quite a bit of trouble in the past. Not just with football clubs.

Happy Pav has re-signed, now want him to be starting every game.

Agree that ward should be starting in behind them. 100%

Thoughts on re-signings;

Paston and Greeny - 34 and 33 next year but I think both are good for another season. I hope Vuko stays and eventually takes over from Paston but I think he'll move on (unless he gets some serious game time) so we'll need to start thinking about life after Paston and Vuko.

Sigmund and Brown - both will be 31 going in to the 2012/13 season - they weren't the quickest players in their 20s. Nevertheless solid signings as both good (actually outstanding) club men (as are Greeny and Paston) and will be useful squad members as younger players are hopefully introduced.

Pav - For Greeny, Paston, Brown and Sigmund it was always going to be a buyers market but I was worried about losing Pav. I think he has plenty of potential which hopefully he will realise over the next couple of seasons. No longer a youth player so he'll need to step up and prove he deserves the "adult" squad spot.

He should be signed. I reckon he could be the kind of player who could turn our season. I could be completely wrong but we all know he would play his heart out for the shirt.

I would like to see Danny Vukovic stay. He is a better player than Mark Paston. But if he leaves I can imagine Glen Moss coming back in two years. Maybe even someone like Reece Crowther, Jacob Spoonley Coey Turipa in two years would all be okay bench players, with a bit more development.

Pavlovic is a solid signing, would like to see a faster, more clinical striker sign before next season though. A young kiwi striker would also be worth while. Andrew Milne or Caleb Rufer maybe?

Oughton would solve our problem right back position, but there has to be an issue with Ricki Herbert, otherwise he would have been in the AW.

If their is a problem with Ricki which I think Duncan's brother has said their isn't earlier on the site, then Ricki needs to get over it and sign players who will benefit the team RB is a position which he can play but play pretty well.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that Vukovic takes over the gloves next season, and Paston stays as the bench warmer, winding down a bit perhaps. It is only a one year contract after all, just a filler until Ricki's happy the Crow can be a decent backup, or we find a good understudy for Vukovic

So Duncan Oughton. Specialist right back. No club now, as the MLS season is winding up. Would be a good signing i think, if he'd be willing to come to NZ, and he'd waltz in the starting line-up.

Oughton, North, Durante, Lochead back 4 please.

Item on ZB 3.00pm news - Joel Griffiths meeting with Herbert in Newcastle to finalise guest spot with Nix - he has been released by Beijing Guoan so he can get some game time.

Setting aside the fact he comes with a reputation as a bit of a t**ser it will be very interesting to see how he combines with Greeny - if he can play the target (he's 5' 11' so presumably strong on the ball) with Greeny running off him it just might be the combination we have been searching for.

He has a great scoring record with the Jets - averaged a goal every two games in over a 100 games.

I'm the first to want the club to recruit on character but I'm more relaxed about a short term guest spot and we have plenty of wise heads in the squad to hopefully keep him on the straight and narrow.

P.S. In a week of financial turmoil Terry comes through yet against - Terry I don't know how you do it but your commitment to the club is unbelievable !

He's an excellent player, but he is def not a target man. to get value out of signing him we'd need to start playing a different game.

And maybe this is a sign that Ricki wants to head that way? Having Elliott and Ward in the midfield is certainly a good indicator.

Stoked with signing Griffiths.

Joel is quick. Probably force opposition defences to sit a little bit deeper and give us a bit more space.

how does this fit with Asian Cup, if it does at all?
Is griffiths trying to stake a claim pre tournament? or will this not give him time for that?
If he did get selected for Asian Cup would his stint with us clash?

But I thought NZ didn't have a RB at all. Hence 3 at the back? Is he really that good, I though  he played DM.

But yeah, Griffith's ain't much bigger than Greenie so about his long ball stuff eh? Surely the end of MacAllister's chances  also, as we have a few strikers now to play 1 at the front most of the time haha

Saw Griffiths play in Beijing a few times and I think he stepped up a notch after he moved over there (as with Oh-Monster in Korea). Some of his finishing was superb, and if it wasn't for character 'issues' surely would have been a regular in Soccereoos squads.

Daniel Cortes

Troy Hearfield

Reece Crowther (gk)

Marco Rojas

Dylan Macallister

Oscar Roberto Cornejo (Fgn)

Nicky Ward

Jade North
Danny Vukovic

CONTRACT EXPIRES END OF SEASON 2011/12:
Manny Muscat
Paul Ifill (Fgn)
Vince Lia
James Musa (u21)

Mark Paston (gk)

Chris Greenacre (Fgn)

CONTRACT EXPIRES END OF SEASON 2012/13:
