Anybody know what the big projects in the pipeline that the club are looking to move on in the next 6-12 months are, that Domey references in that press conference?

Suspect those Fraser Park boutique ground development rumours are strong enough to have some truth about them.

Possibly.
Saw a Pia Vlok interview where she said she can't wait to start at the charter school.

It’ll be interesting to see how many Academy players end up attending and what proportion of the roll they make up. Pretty sure I read an old article about Katie Pugh saying she’s also a boarder at NZCIS, for example.

it will be interesting to see evidence of a contingency plan being put into place during the forthcoming days. every proper organisation should have one, and the phoenix have often told us how well run they are.

Considering Chief was talking about taking the team to the finals in his first interview and apparently resigned in his second, it seems likely he was given the option to resign to save face in the time between them.

Unlike some here I don’t have a knife out for Dome, but I agree that what happens next will be critical for the club’s future so it’s time for the management team to step up and show wisdom and leadership.
Come on guys, we’re looking to you. Please don’t let us down.

People complaining about Dome seem to forget there are more than one team at the 'Nix. Both teams brought in injury replacements when available, and extra in regards to the men. Pia Vlok (and I'm sure there are others within the club) is now able to live, go to school, and train at NZCIS.
To think we used to train at Newtown Park with no youth teams, to getting youth teams and academy into competitive leagues via partnerships with other clubs, worked out structure with Cap Football and NZF to have youth teams in competitive leagues, then chipping in with WCC to upgrade and move to Martin Luckie and then onto NZCIS, taking over management of the Ricoh Sports Centre where the academy is based, building the women's operation, setting up the football for all programme which has now gone nationally, various charity and community outreach events and programmes etc.
But sure, what does Domey even do?

Seriously?
Answer the question. There's two teams in Wellington now, and do you think he should stay away from the women's team as well, despite them sitting second right now?

Seriously don’t pull that card after 16 years
That’s prime Dome deflection behaviour.
The team which will kill this club is not the women’s team and never was irrespective of performance.
But in answer he should have nothing at all to do with football matters. Women’s, Men’s, under 12s.
Stick to being a school principal and hostel manager.
And you should have a re-listen to his interview on the fever pod after the end of last season.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but if you still believe him then I have a bridge to sell you.
The chief has fallen on his sword. Now is the time for Gill and Dome.
The women’s A league team, is not the joker card hidden up their sleeve, that they can play.

The team which will kill this club is not the women’s team and never was irrespective of performance.
But the team that saves it might be.
I know people will point at Canberra as proof that an ALW team on its own can’t pay the bills, but I suspect that between salaries and the cost of hiring Sky/Hnry we’re bleeding way more red ink on the ALM side this season.
Yes, we’re lucky that an unlikely set of circumstances lined up to get us Bev as a coach, but it’s not all luck. Emma wouldn’t be here if the club was the shambles you make it out to be, and I’m sure they had some serious conversations about committing professionally and personally to Wellington that could easily have gone the other way.
Similarly Bev’s mana had a big part to play in our signings this season, but would Vlok for example have moved here solely for a coach who could well (as coaches do) move on?
Players aren’t stupid, they know they’re signing to a club not an individual manager, and it’s taken years of investment and behind-the-scenes work to build the Phoenix as a club - work that you seem very quick to discount based on the performance of just one of our two professional teams.

People have to realise a few more years of the same dross and performances on the pitch for the mens team will equal sponsors leaving, players not wanting to come, less interest in the club as a whole. When AFC get their academy set up - who from Hamilton north will want to touch us.
We aren't in the OFC pro league (which IMO is Dome's biggest failure).
We can talk about the women but if Bev wins a trophy this year with us, she will be as good as gone within a month after the season ends.
Whoever replaces her and Chiefy as permanent coaches better have some name value because the way the club has been on the field is not good enough in most ways.
A lot of the Dome talk is due to our Mens First Team performances on the field and if you speak to most professional clubs in the world, thats the team in the club that matters most.
If we want success, people need to stop defending DD and question the way the Mens First Team is set up and if they are setting the new coach up for success.

Is there any actual info on the success of sponsors?
There are brand names on shirts but how much are they actually paying verses other clubs?
Wasn’t one of the major reasons they played in Auckland was to keep their sponsors happy and wasn’t AFC coming in a threat to these income streams?

It’s the team who that matters most because of a history of the FA banning the women’s game because it was getting too popular and they were worried about their revenue, and because of guys like Jim Ratcliffe who aren’t interested in it.
Porirua, Bev and the fans have been a breathe of fresh air and the women’s team have been playing some really good football. And have replaced big injuries quickly and without fuss twice.
Both Uffie and Chief had good chances to win a Premiership. We need a coach who can get 5 more minutes defense and not get hit by distance bombs from Doka and a guy who hasn’t scored in over a decade.
I know you guys both have identified something not working- no titles. And more importantly this season no fans. But how to get there isn’t necessarily obvious or pretty. As many fouls as Auckland FC? Cosgrove and Corica? Ownership by an international football group? An owner who spends the bank to win a couple of times and then has to bail?
Suggestions are open.

How about a competent management that rightfully lets Chiefy go at the end of last season (end of contract, no firing required)? Is that too pie in the sky for you?
Edit: could have also backed that new manager than how well they backed Chiefy before this season, without being crazy big spenders. Nobody saw any ambition in our signings prior to the season, and only two of them in Eze and Armiento have been anywhere close to good enough. Eze himself wasnt a sure thing either, getting somebody from the Iraqi league is always going to be a wildcard. And Armiento was a bit of a journeyman too

So to summarise you want us to be Real Madrid.
All our signings and visa players are risks. Eze has been a brilliant signing. Saying Armiento has over performed your expectations is a credit to the coach in fact. James stabilised us when he came in and is better than Sheridan or LKH. Nagasawa has produced some fantastic passes now he has someone to hit. And Josh.
(Actually almost all big signings are a risk at all levels. But that’s another story. )
You’re telling a Scott Robertson story.
Letting Chief go hasn’t always been clear this season. Tbh I’ve enjoyed the season.
We’ve beaten Adelaide. We’ve beaten Sydney. We’ve drawn with City. We’ve beaten the once ascendant Roar twice.
Look at the other coaches in the A league. We’re not likely to get someone with much higher experience than that. If they’re not going to City or to Sydney, it’s likely to be tricky to get them to the Nix. And a big gamble.

You think Real Madrid gives Chiefy a contract extension? Give me a break. He would have been sacked long before the end of last season
Permalink

The point is there is a middle ground between Real Madrid and what we are now, where we should be.
Madrid sacks Chiefy in Jan 2025. I am not saying I want that. But I don't think it is unreasonable for the Nix to let Chiefy go at the end of last season when his contract ended. No payout needed, just taking his salary and giving it to a better coach instead. Wouldnt have required unrealistic spending

Yep.
But it might not be that much of a middle ground.
Certainly would have handled the derby better you’d have thought.
And Retre hasn’t added much competition or bite to the midfield.
But also we had some successes, but we didn’t really build on them at all, unfortunately.

Sure, last season was bad, however Italiano had banked a lot of credit from the season before, which was the reason he was given this year to build on his plan and create his dream. It hasnt worked, he's been given all the rope he needs and finally he has jumped before being hung!
No need for comparisons to how other clubs would do it, they operate in totally different ecosystems and managers can affford to buy the players they want with almost unlimited budgets. We operate in a salary capped league with only a few clubs that have unlimimited funds to pay fees for players and compensate them in other ways to negate the lower salary.

Calling for leadership to go after a couple of bad seasons for the mens side when many other facets of the club are going well is a bit premature in my opinion, but the pressure is on them now. I'm keen to see how they react to this, who we get in next year coaches and players, and what steps are taken to get us back into finals football and to even up the derby chasm that has opened up with Auckland. Fail on that front, and there needs to be revolution.

Isnt the main thing a football club should doing is fielding winning teams. Apart from our womans team nearly all our other teams fail to do that. Our reserve teams are rarely competitive and how many of our whst is it 8 Academy teams actually challenge to win titles.
Im afraid we are based on mediocrity and until that attitude changes us tragic fans will just have accept out sharkty lot.
COYN You bet i will be there next game isnt thst what fans do. Dosnt mean i cant be well PO with how its turned out.
To be honest couldnt give a shark about the Charter School or how great the Academy is i support the club to hopefully watch winning football teams not the shark thats continually dished up to us

short answer to your statement is no!
All of the things you're not interested in are what keep the club afloat.
Think of the NRL and the clubs in Aus.They all have multiple businesses operating under the banner of the club to keep them financially viable. That's what the Nix are trying to build so they are not solely reliant on the football product.
Football is the visible product and as fans our #1 concern, but as a business the owners have other areas that are important.
