I never thought I would say this but god damn this is boring. I love test cricket but I am struggling through this. El G must be absolutely fuming, McIntosh is making Richardson look like Viv Richardsbopman2008-12-20 16:11:03

Im trying to decide whether I would rather see Australia lose and us not be in a truly dominant position over night or Australia win and us still be batting, hmmmm. I figure all my cricketing dreams wont come true!
How good was McIntosh today though? He picked up his run rate, and was well supported by Fat boy.
As i type Kallis goes, very very key. Id say Australia 55/45 now

Well my cricketing dreams can come true, this win by South Africa is monumental. I get the feeling that may be the straw that breaks the camels back for the Jaapies, the mental thing they had with Aussie was the last wall for them to break down and now they have done it they have the team side to dominate cricket with the Indians for the next few years. Absolutely magic victory, almost feel sorry that a guy like Pollock wasn't there to share that with them

Yeh Aussie's mantle of invulnerabilty must be in the wash huh? Or maybe the dry cleaners lost it.
massive massive result. To chase over 400 in the 4th inninngs and win by 6 wickets..!! that's well...South Africa would feel confident of looking at that number one spot you would think...

Id love to watch some of these series on Neutral soil, it would be cool if every 8 years or something ridiculous the top two teams in the world played against each other in every test playing nation. Would be awesome to watch and a real test to see who the best team in the world is

Great win for SA fully deserved.......NZ were lucky today to get 2 down with WI still needing a few to even the scores, will take a big effort from Jeest and Dan to finish them off tomorrow and leave enough time to win.

can anyone tell me why they start at 12 and finsh early because of bad light. Shurely they could start at 11 or 10:30 and get a full days cricket in.
You have to question pontings captancy last night. The only way Aus would win is by bowling SA out. yet for much of the day he has a ringed field with one slip.

Patel on a hatrick. Misses but Canderpaul is gone for a duck.

| 33.3 | Patel to Chanderpaul, OUT, extraordinary! A disgusting full toss from Patel and Chanderpaul tries to turn it away to the leg-side. It catches the leading edge and pops straight back in to Patel's hands. New Zealand go wild! |

Really, those two balls, well that one ball won us the test, it would take something pretty unexpected from here for the Windies to bat long enough. Maybe if Gayle goes nuts for a session.
Back to last nite, Ponting poved himself to be a very average captain. Didn't give Symonds a bowl, when things began to look desperate I would have thought Katich/Hussey even Ponting himself was worth an over or two. He doesn't cope well when the pressure is on

Ponting has always been an average captain, he's been able to hide the fact when he had bowlers like McGrath and Warne to bail him out of tight situations, which the aussie cheer squad would always claim as great captaincy......given a situation where his bowlers are kings of the pitch he suddenly struggles to utilise the players he has - makes you think about how great a captain Fleming was - he won with average players!!!

Can someone explain to me why leg-byes are considered in the same category as No-Balls and Wides. Smithy has just been going on about how disciplined our bowlers have been only conceeding 6 extras, a wide, a leg bye and 4 no balls. To my way of thinking the bowler has very little control over whether the ball hits the pads and goes for runs. Has always confused and frustrated me when someone says "and they conceeded 25 extras", for f**ks sake 20 of them were leg byes. Anyone care to explain?

Well where else can you put them? In the batmens runs would be a bit difficult because unless they hit it with there leg on purpose you couldn't put it there really same for byes.

Neither byes or leg byes are charged against bowlers. They go into extras because there's nowhere else to put them, but they don't affect bowler's figures (the only way they do is if a bowler bowls an over in which the only runs scored were byes/leg-byes, then such an over is not considered a maiden although the bowler himself was not charged with giving away any runs).

| 0.6 | Edwards to How, 3 runs |
| 20.5 | Edwards to How, FOUR, and another! Straight drive again beats mid-on and races away for the fourth boundary of the over. How stroking it around nicely |
| 20.4 | Edwards to How, FOUR, quality shot. Angles the bat and guides the ball between the slips and gully and runs away for four. Very productive over for the Kiwis |
| 20.3 | Edwards to How, no run, slower ball and the ball hangs in the air but drops down short of mid-off |
| 20.2 | Edwards to How, FOUR, bouncer which is pulled away and the man from fine leg pushes it on to the boundary with his dive |
| 20.1 | Edwards to How, FOUR, fantastic straight drive brings up four runs. Too straight and full from Edwards |
Great over.

Whats the f**king point in the referral system if the 3rd umpire is so f**king blind he still gets it blatantly wrong even with the technology assisting at crucial times. f**k i'm angry.

The whole thing's a farce anyway, hope they never introduce it properly.
Disappointing way for the test to finish overall.

its the dumbest referral system in world sport if your gonna use it at least used all the proper technology available i understand not using hawk eye from after the real part but come on Snicko and hot spot would have saved that test from being a draw and tbh would have made a better game. The referral system is sh** and will ruin cricket if they dont redesign it.

They can't use the snicko and the hot spot because they do not occur in real time and require computer software analysis, and are thus technically open to manipulation. There's also other variables that can make them inaccurate at times.
Agree with the second part of your comment.

I'm suprised noone has mentioned the aussie getting there arse dealt to by SA
That at least went some way towards making up for the disappointment of our loss to Roar. Just to see the Aussies getting pounded by the SA lower order, the dropped catches, the overthrows, Ponting out for 99....
What self-respecting kiwi wouldn't take a sadistic pleasure from seeing them in total disaray.

edit: And just this minute it's all over. SA take the series 2-0.

Well the first ODI is underway. 93/2 after 26 overs. Gayle went for 25, C Maca B Mills and Gillispie clean bowled another shortly after. Rain seems to be giving the match a bit of stop/start though
Hopefully the boys can get in there and do a good job. Vettori and Oram are bowling at less than 3 an over, not bad!
