Thank fudgeing god we got a late winner in the Adelaide v Macarthur game, was heading for a 1-1 draw, Adelaide now up to 21 points, two points behind Auckland.

Obviously would like us to get a win or even just a point in our match with Adelaide on Saturday but if they win they will go ahead of Auckland for the time being. Plus if City or WU, or both win their next two games (taking place before AFC play Perth) they will also move past Auckland.

Apart from another kid coming in to replace Kuen.

And our defensive performance up until the second goal was quite creditable with a diminished squad, rather than a sign of the apocalypse?

Don’t get that you are backing any Aussie team against Auckland.

For me i back any Nz team against aussie.

Im with Hatty NO way NO is this Wellingtonian EVER supporting the Auckland team and dont understand what about that you dont understand.

Seems some dont understand there is a regional rivalry in NZ on top of that you have the shoddy treatment of Nix fans by Auckland. So come on any Aussie team when playing Auckland.

Because I'm a born and raised Wellingtonian.

A second professional NZ team is of course a massive boost for football in this country, I don't have anything against Corica or the players themselves (some of course former Nix players) and I don't deny they are playing some good football, I hate fanboy Foley and can't stand the Port or AFC fans in general though.

Do you know how fudgeing devastating it would be if after the nearly 18 years we've been in the league, all the times we came so close (09/10, 11/12, 19/20 if it wasn't for COVID) the hardship, grief, heartbreak, frustration, tough periods (COVID forcing us away from home and our fans, the FFA threatening to get rid of us) we've had to endure and been through, plus how bloody close we were to winning the premiers plate last season and making the grand final, AFC won their first piece of silverware before us in their inaugural season, plus even the league as well.

I get the aspects of the local rivalry but I'm more loyal to New Zealand than that.

Yes it would be a shame for the Nix if AFC get silverware before them but if they deny an Aussie team, then that's great as far as I'm concerned.

I have followed and supported the Nix since day one, and still do, however now Auckland is my number one because its my town and I was supporting the Kingz and Knights before that.

That's the other thing, I was too young to remember the Kingz and I actually had no interest in football when the Knights were playing, I used to always be a rugby guy (Hurricanes, All Blacks).

I mentioned this when I first joined the forum, I'm not actually a day one fan, I've supported the Phoenix since 09/10, before then, as noted above, I had no interest in football. I still obviously knew the big football clubs, leagues, and nations, as well as the All Whites and their accomplishments, 1982 WC qualification of course, but I wasn't watching any games. That was until I went with a mate, who had been a fan since our inaugural season, to the Phoenix's first game of 09/10 at the stadium against Glory which we won 2-1, thanks to Bertos's long range screamer.

From that game alone, I became invested and started to follow the Phoenix for the rest of the season, watching them smash GC 6-0, Dadi's bicycle kick on debut, etc. I also started to watch the few remaining AWs games that year and before you knew it, I was watching both the AWs beat Bahrain to qualify for South Africa, and the Nix defeat Glory and Newcastle at the Cake Tin.

Since then I have followed the Phoenix through and through each season, except for 17/18 when, for the first time, I took a break from watching them for a while just because of how bad that season was with Kalezic.

Today, I don't even watch the Hurricanes, the All Blacks or any rugby anymore, I'm all about the Phoenix, football, and the AWs, and I have the Phoenix to thank for that, which is why they are especially special to me.

If Auckland are your first team why does your profile pic say "Nix"?

And sorry not sorry would prefer any Australian team to win the league/final series again before Auckland.

you may wish to update your profile picture if we are now the second team you support.
I'd prefer an Australian team to win it again before Auckland any day of the week. In saying that in no way does that diminish my support of the NZ national team.

Personally I think its fine to say you'd hate to see AFC win anything beofre us, it doesnt necesarrily mean you'll be celebrating an aussie team winning the league. Just that if AFC win this season you'll be negatively affected - I klnow I'd be super unhappy about it - claiming somehow that the footballing gods had screwed us over. If for example the final is AFC and someone else - I wont be watching it as at that point my care factor dissappears. For me it's Nix or nothing, I follow what is going n with AFC and have watched a couple of their home games but that is as far as it goes.

Should AFC be in the final against another club, I will watch that final, if it comes to pass, because I watch local (ALM) football full stop and do not care for EPL etc.
I would cheer them on in the final against say Melbourne City or Adelaide that have no Kiwi players.  If they manage to win the silverware, I would still see it as a good thing for New Zealand football overall.
But then I am in general more of a "half-glass-full" type of a person, rather than a "half-glass-empty", let alone "I'll-break-your-fudgeing-glass-if-it-is-as-much-as-quarter-full" person.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I don't think we could say it would have a positive impact on the nix though. And as a non-kiwi, that's my priority. They can win the league (although I'd rather they didn't), after us. I have zero interest in them being better than us.

Perth losing 2-0 to Sydney, both goals from Lolley, one a penalty, and for now he has passed Kosta in the golden boot race.

Taggart was subbed off at half-time and is now under an injury cloud, that will be a massive loss for Glory if he is unable to play against AFC and potentially dashes any chance of Perth getting anything from the match.

Lolley ended up with a hatty. He is now 2 goals ahead of Kosta in the Golden Boot race.

That penalty felt a bit questionable. Whatever the ref meant when he said "unnaturally larger" is beyond me but I guess it wasn't gonna change the outcome either way

Did they just say 1 goal and 1 assist for Arzani in 10 games? Isn’t he supposed to be real Australian hero?

Botched a couple of chances- but now has an assist! A good un too. Not shall we say known for his strength, he was here, and sent over a tap in for Bruno.

Heh.

Good result for AFC.

If they win their next two games they will be in prime position to win the minor premiership.

Three for me, and two for them.

Still only Round 13 of 29?

Surely they have a run of games in Perth and rural NSW where Verstrate gets injured and they struggle to hit a barn door?

I mean without any slip ups or misfortunes, they’re in box seats, but surely their luck can’t be that good…

Sounds like I missed a cracker last night.

John Aloisi is weird manager. He gets fantastic results with younger players but let him recruit players, he gets old guys and everything goes pear shaped

Even if it's only for a few hours, finally someone other than AFC at the top.

Auckland heavy favourites later tonight, but hoping Perth will try to put up a decent fight and frustrate AFC as much as possible, hell maybe even earn a point.
