Suggest you look at the league table.

Bollocks.

A) The coach is the one who actually brings in the players, so it DOES matter one iota who the coach is

B) A lot of the squad is genuinely A-League level, its just for most of the season they were made to play in a defensive style when almost all of our players are suited to the old Ernie attacking style. Of course there are the ones that aren't (Parkhouse, Italiano, etc), but every club has a few of them

C) Hard to play football when you're being ruled by a malevolent egotistical dictator who doesn't have a clue and seemingly doesn't care about his players

I'm not saying our squad doesn't need any improvements or that on paper our squad as a whole is one of the better ones in the league, but under the right system they can play a damn lot better than they did this season. Kalezic's style relied on no one making individual errors - that's never going to work in the A-League, whether you're Nix or Sydney

I mean if it is "local", then surely theres only really a few guys it can be right?:

  • Paul Okon (although I'm fairly sure he has said he's not interested)
  • Rob Sherman
  • Michael Valkanis
  • JP De Marigny
  • Mark Rudan
  • Frank Farina (please god no)
  • Ante Milicic
  • Phil Moss
  • Hayden Foxe
  • Scott Miller
  • Tony Popovic (Technically an option but I don't see us shelling out the coin for him)
  • Ross Aloisi
  • Arthur Papas

Probably missed some, but there are only a few on here that I would be happy with to be honest

anyone know what licence Kevin Fallon has?

The only proven performers are either contracted, performed a long time ago, or are overseas.

FWIW, assuming Rob Sherman won't get the head coaching job (he'd have got it by now), I'd love to see him appointed as Director of Football, overseeing all the club's coaches, and acting as the conduit between them and the club. Sherman could also work with all the coaches, acting as a mentor, helping them upskill, and generally bring a whole heap of coaching nous to the table. And if we had another coaching 'explosion' next season, he'd be there to steady the ship.

Sounding like a broken record Scribbler mate, but I have to agree. Would love to see him involved

Yeah, I know I'm a broken record on this, Jazzy, but to have a guy like Sherman available, and not get him involved seems crazy to me. It's such a bleedingly good idea, it probably won't happen.

Surely if it was to be Sherman they would have had this stitched up weeks ago?

I'm just using Occars Razor. With the paramaters given, those two seem the most likely.

Local as in Australasian. Sounds like they have current commitments, so must be currently in a job. Could be someone from the Aussie state leagues?

I see the Breakers have just named their new head coach. How long after unexpectingly losing their old one?

That would mean they did not continue with their club into this season, as the state leagues are winter based?

It has to be coaches involved in the A-League as Dome said they're still committed for a couple more weeks. State leagues are in round 7 now and have a few months left to run.

I doubt it's Buckingham as he doesn't currently have commitments outside of his work with NZF.

It could be though that the Phoenix has their preferred candidate who's contracted ATM to an A-League club and a second choice who's not.

Might not necessarily be a current A-League coach right? I'm not saying I want him, but Gary van Egmond is currently the assistant coach with the Matilda's who are in the semi-final of the AFC Asian Women's cup. He coached the Jets for a number of years in the A-League, and is very much a "local" of the Australasian football scene. I don't think it would be him but you never know

That's his second stint in the role. Had been there 2013-15 before spending 15-16 assisting at the Jets

in a 10 club league I don't think going from assistant at one team to head at another is a step down

moving from anywhere to the nix right now is a step down. no time to really build a proper career with only 2 years left in the league. starting with the real threat of non-existance unless you succeed immediately and win the fans over.

Great signing if true, can't wait to see what he does. Has had lots of experience developing players which is clearly what our strategy is.

The Sauce

How good a coach would TV be if he only drop out after this. Obviously he has no Facts machine at City.

“Vidmar decided not to pursue the opportunity after being told that no cash would be available for marquee signings, amid continuing uncertainty over whether the under-achieving club's A-League license will be extended beyond the end of next season.”

I read that, pretty bad if true as next year obviously is extremely important.

However should still be able to build a solid team if WeeMac and Dura have pay cuts and Singh and Cacace are on or near minimum. Young Kiwis should be pretty cheap.

Depends what it means by marquee. If it means a $1m+ kinda player, very few clubs can afford that. But Phoenix have been above the salary cap the last couple of seasons so players have definately been allocated marquee status.
